I also sometimes take pause, realizing that these treasures used to belong to someone else, before they either voluntarily parted with them, or simply left their earthly positions behind. In some ways, Artifacts is the mother of antique stores, with several rooms filled with treasures, both small and large. It's right across the street from John's Market, and easily a world away. I found the selections to be fairly well organized and the store reasonably easy to navigate. It was also clear to me that the owners had a good eye and knew treasure from schlock. I found prices reflected well the value that they were probably worth. Best of all, wandering/exploring through Artifacts was a lot of fun. Besides "budget" consideration, the only other limiting factor for me is that I was going home to Northern Nevada in a few days, and my suitcase was only so big. I also knew darn well that places like this truly are like a box of chocolate, as you're never really sure what you'll find either now or later. And when I return to Iowa City in Fall 2022 and enter Artifacts, I'm sure it will be a whole new "Onion" experience. Gayle would say that we don't need any more stuff, while asking where we're going to put it. I'm not sure I understand her point. :)

Over 6 years ago my Mom and Dad used them to help pack, sell and move the home. They had to move quickly as Dad had health issues and they needed to get in to a retirement community. Mom was the cleanest and neatest pack rat you will have ever met but she kept too many collectables, papers and stuff. My Mom filed complaints back then and told us how bad it was dealing with them but too make a long story short only reason I am posting now is that Mom just passed recently and as we were cleaning out her apt we found all the paper work from the move and subsequent letters from my Mom complaining and asking for breakdowns of sales, merchandise, etc. Seems they were charged thousands more by Kerri Shimp than quoted and were basically told to go stuff themselves. What set me off to write this review was I found out as we were cleaning out the apt from another local company they were told personally by Kerri that she was going to take every dollar she could from my parents. My warning is look elsewhere before hiring them and whatever you do DO NOT TRUST or HIRE KERRI SHIMP

They went through their house & almost took everything!!! They didn't even ask my parents what they could take. They took furniture, a new refrigerator, clothing, dishes, computers, even their towels & bedding! Also some very precious antiques!! My parents were given back 400.00. The furniture that they did keep, were damaged in the move. The owner of this business told my parents that they would have to take it up with the mover? Are you kidding me??? We rented a 20-yard dumpster from Mike on 5/19/23 for a week with an option for 2 weeks. They were…read moresupposed to come at 12:00 but didn't show up until 3:00. We told the driver we wanted to keep the dumpster for 2 weeks even tho we paid for one (cash) upfront. Today, Wednesday, I called Mike to confirm we would be able to keep the dumpster another week. Mike said he already rented the dumpster but he could give us a 14-yard dumpster for less money. He then said they would pick up the dumpster at 12:00 on Friday but when I said we didn't get it until 3:00 he said they have to have time to dump it and get it to the next client. They are a new company and trying to make a name for themselves in Burlington but if they continue with this practice they won't be in business for long. I understand they make more money renting it out weekly but we told them we wanted it for 2 weeks. We flip houses but we will never use them again or recommend them.
