I have used Crow's Chimney sweep in the past for chimney cleaning and maintenance and have always been impressed with their reliability and expertise, but this past week they surpassed all my expectations. After calling the company that installed my gas fireplace that wasn't working, waiting 2 weeks for them to come and service it only to be told they don't service gas fireplaces even though they sell them, and suggesting I call Crow's did I get the fireplace fixed. Not only did he come to my home days after I called, he found the issue plus other issues with the way it was installed and fixed those as well. Then he ardently put the fireplace back together placing each log and checking to see how how the flames looked. Mind you, he took two hours on a FRIDAY NIGHT to get this all done. So impressed! Crow's was recommended to us by our HVAC company. From the time we scheduled our appointment with Logan until the completion of the service, customer services was superior. Roy was awesome and very knowledgeable. He informed me that Crow's co-owners hold various chimney/fireplace certifications; which I learned is not a requirement in the state of Iowa. Roy showed me something with our gas fireplace that shocked me, as we had been running it for nearly two seasons with this problem. Roy likely saved us from potentially becoming very sick. Inspections are worth it. This is their busiest season right now, so you may have to wait a few weeks to be serviced. Can't recommend them enough! You can't go wrong with Crow's. Absolutely my new go-to chimney sweep! The two co-owners are firefighters which adds extra peace of mind since you know they're on the lookout for fire hazards. They quickly spotted that our fireplace cap was out of code and, upon inspection, that our chimney was not in need of a sweep - something I greatly appreciated their honesty on when the bill came around. Since my husband and I just bought a fairly old house that was not properly cared for by it's previous owners, I've been covering all the bases I can as far as fire-proofing and updating the building to current code. With this in mind, I was thrilled to see that they also do dryer vent cleaning. Lo and behold, our vent pipe was disconnected from itself four feet from the exterior vent and had been pushing lint and hot moisture into the house's insulation! They gave me the flashlight to see for myself and showed me why this had happened, then reassembled the duct properly, and cleaned it. My only gripe is that when I made the appointment they said they'd arrive between 9:30-11am (a huge window that only internet companies can rival), but ended up arriving at 11:10am without letting me know they were running late. I called them in April to ask that they install a cap on my chimney, because a squirrel had fallen in and gotten fried on my upstair tenants' furnace. They assured me that they'd take care of it within a week. When I called back, they said their employee had seen that the house next door had a cap on the chimney and figured that that was really the house I meant. They said they'd take care of it. Nothing. I emailed them again in May, in June, in July. No reply. Nothing. Now it is October, and the same thing has happened again. I tried calling them, but they weren't accepting calls and said to leave a message. Impossible -- their voicemail box was full. Six months with no response! I have never had such abominable service from any service provider ever, I don't think. Don't waste your time and energy trying to deal with these folks! read more

This is a highly exceptional and professional business with a focus on delivering friendly and quality customer service. I appreciated learning that they are certified as a chimney sweep and also insured (as I understand, not required but should be in state of Iowa). Also, I was impressed with their focus on safety in wearing roofer shoes, careful placement of their ladder & changing out my old chimney cap with a modern one (better capable of keeping birds out). Very professional group. Our young man was a local firefighter who knew his business. He had originally looked at our old fireplace and discussed needing to replace part of the interior to totally insulate the back of the firebox. He had quoted materials and labor of just over $200. When he examined the box, he was able to do some adapting of existing blocks and charged me a minor service charge. He could easily told me anything, charged me over $200, and I would have not known the difference. These are public servants earning extra income. He was prompt, friendly, very clean working in an old fireplace, and right on ethical an honest. read more

This has been a family owned business in Iowa City for about 40 years and I have used them many times and referred them to many people. The founder recently sold the business and has retired. The new owner is just as awesome from what I can tell and seems to be offering an increased menu of services.
