My first experience was taking a the train between Danforth (I grew up in the Beaches) and Pickering for a job interview. I had just completed grade 12. I had a driver's licence, but didn't have access to my dad's car. He was at work! Back then, I got a ticket from the machine. The ride was smooth and exciting. I got another ticket returning. Just before I exited the train at Danforth, a conductor was checking proof of purchase. He didn't get to me, as I had left the train. My second stint was working for a bank by Union station. I took the train between Milliken and Union. I loved it. I had a monthly pass. The commute between Union and Kennedy stations took 17 minutes. It allowed me to take a nap heading home! I rarely got a seat heading to Union from Milliken catching the 7:53 am train. I learned how to cean against a wall with my back and sleep upright. When it was March break or near the Christmas holidays, I'd manage to get a seat heading to work. I felt like I had won the lottery. I always managed to get a seat on the train at Union. It may have required my walking down a bit to get a seat, but I was always pleased to take a breather. The Markham-Stouffville-Uxbridge line rarely had delays. It happened a couple of times during the wintertime. I was a grad student and barely made it for my Tuesday online class! My recent stint was taking the Lakeshore East/West line between Pickering and Exhibition. I visited The Ex for the first time in sixteen years. It was also the last time I took anything on GO Transit. The seats on the train are roomier. The washrooms need better door locking mechanisms. The one heading to Pickering kept sliding, which was weird and comical. I liked using the free wifi. It worked well throughout my commute. I ended up making a reel while on the train. It was nice to have someone drive me somewhere. Some would say that taking the GO train or bus is expensive. Maybe. I think it's a fair trade-off to shell out more for a smoother ride, fewer train delays, less aggravation dealing with unruly commuters, and free parking at the various stations that I've parked my car at. I also like PRESTO. Maybe it's because I'm new to the entire loading money and tapping experience. You tap your card or barcode at the station before boarding your train or bus. You do the same when you arrive at your destination. The challenge is remembering to tap on and off. I can see that being an issue if you are preoccupied. The trains that I boarded recently were nicely air-conditioned. One train had a five-minute delay, which was negligible. I liked that the train conductor apologized for the delay. I remember being the case taking the train to and from work back in the day. The apology part is a nice touch. The only downside is parking at some stations. They fill up early in the morning, as folks are heading to work. Pickering has the most parking spots and I liked finding a decent surface parking spot at 10:30 am on a Friday morning there. I like GO Transit. I don't take it often. When I do, it gets me to and from where I need to be without shelling out a ton of money. (384)

It costs more than it's worth more often than not, as updates to delays etc are not posted where tickets are sold or in areas easily accessible by the public using said "public transit" The trains are usually delayed or early meaning scheduling around a train usually takes an extra hour, or two, of time just to make up for the trains poor punctuality and lose oversight. Like why is west harbour to Niagara taking an extra hour to arrive? Watched a via rail pass as we sat stopped in a field like it was children of the corn. The train conductor then proceeded to mention a service guarantee over the PA that the website won't honour apparently.

It's a major TTC hub that connects subway, GO Transit, and multiple bus routes. Not much to do here, and definitely not a place to hang out, but it works for what it is. There's a small convenience kiosk (outside the fare zone), so you can grab a snack, drink, or a magazine if needed. I hadn't been here in years, and when I approached a TTC employee to buy a day pass, she came off a little sharp at first. But once I explained I was unfamiliar with the updated system, she softened and was super helpful in getting me on my way. That made a difference. So, do I recommend it? Only in the sense that if it's part of your route, it'll get the job done. It's not fancy, but it's functional...and helpful people can make even a gritty station feel okay.

Milliken station is slightly closer to my home than Unionville. However, if I end up missing the last train for the evening, my next best bet would be to take the GO bus, which stops at Unionville station. Buses run all the time. Trains don't run on weekends. The parking lot gets extremely busy at rush hour. It's interesting seeing folks drive in like maniacs, park, and run like their lives depended on catching the train. It's both amusing and stressful. The parking lot is one of the larger ones for a GO station in the area. I rarely got a seat on the train during rush hour when I boarded here. I only got a seat when it was March Break and thought I had won the lottery. I also learned how to stand up and sleep on the train. It's a skill that I am still proud of to this day. This station has a cute building where you can purchase tickets. There are also washrooms. This location is ideal. It's by Kennedy and highway 407. So, if you need someone to pick you up, it's pretty easy to find this station. There's more retail development around the area since I was a GO commuter. I would estimate a five-minute drive, at most, from this station to the local plaza to eat and shop. You can walk it, but I wouldn't recommend it on a snowy day like today! (432)

Since…read morethere is technically only one visible exit for each parking lot, some people run for their lives to get out of the parking lot as fast as possible to avoid the exit parking traffic. It is actually very stressful getting in and out of trying to pick someone up during rush hours. It will take a good 10 mins+ to just get out. You need all lot of patience as there are quite a few rude drivers out there. They really need extra stop signs for incoming traffic and extra exits. Whomever designed this place didn't think clearly with just one visible exit !! The go office is closed over the weekend so no washrooms are available. I could be wrong but I don't see a reload machine anywhere. You can buy a ticket , check, your balance or tap but no reload machine. There are two machine tickets booths - one near by the bus stops and one very the office that are self serve. Convenient but slow. Run for your lives!!

This is even with a 5 level parking garage that was newly built a few years ago. However, on a weekend there are no problems finding a spot to park. With more trains running starting at the end of the year the commute downtown is all the more convenient. I'd much rather pay $8.26, on the Presto card, than have to be stuck on the Viva and then TTC trying to get downtown. Edit: I forgot to mention that the bus drivers are some of the friendliest around. One even had a string of Christmas lights on his side of the windshield.

Finch station is usually decently clean, with underground paths leading to bus terminals and passenger pickups. The underground paths have a couple of Tim Hortons so you can grab your drink and go (no seating area). The passenger pickup area is also quite nice. There are a few benches that you can sit on while you wait, and a spacious lot outside for your pickup driver to park while waiting.

These days, I visit the passenger pickup-drop-off area to pick up and drop off friends. For four years, I commuted to both York University's main and Glendon campuses through Finch station. It was easier to get a seat if I simply took the 53 and 60 buses to and from this station, rather than getting off at Yonge and Steeles, and feeling like a sardine in any bus that had room for me. Going home from Glendon, I'd take either the 124 or 162 bus to Lawrence station, and then take it northbound to Finch. Sure, there were times where the 53 Steeles East buses, both regular and express, were running late and were packed at Finch station. I waited for a while on the platform for a free bus, but it always took me home, no matter how rough the day felt. One time, I had left my wallet on the subway. It was highly unusual for me. It was pink. My heart sank. I was at Finch and decided to go back to Lawrence to see if I could find it. Nothing. I reported it being lost with a TTC employee at Lawrence. He contacted someone at Finch station and said that my wallet was there. I was relieved! I was a broke student that I'm sure no one wanted my plastic-looking wallet with practically nothing in it. Anyway, Finch station has a special place in my heart thanks to an honest person returning my wallet and my being able to fetch it there. Finch station has public washrooms. I had to use it once and it was decent. I do like the passenger pickup-drop-off (so glad that the name changed from kiss-and-ride) area. I never have a problem parking, waiting for my friend to arrive, or dropping said friend off here. I'm in. I'm out. There's a set of traffic lights that makes turning easy. I'm happy! I have parked here a couple of times on weekends. It's free. It helps when I don't feel like paying for parking downtown and I know that I'm not buying a lot of stuff while down there. I did it another time to see a concert. Although convenient to take the subway down to Scotiabank Arena, it makes for a long commute for me heading home. I'd rather take my car. I do like this station, which is the last top on on the Yonge portion of the Yonge-University subway line. It was nice to recently pass by and reminisce. (361)

The station helps add to the character of the immediate surrounding area of heritage of the unique (albeit small) city centre. It has GO train service, and recently they've added all-day, 2-way service on weekdays during business hours which is great. The GO bus terminal is right beside with several routes offered. The train station serves as a VIA rail station and you can get to places like Montreal from this station. Tip: Closer to the bus station is The Village Bake Shop, which is a great place to get coffee, baked goods and such. You'd need to set aside a few extra minutes to go on a run there if you were getting on the train however. One frustrating thing, and for all GO stations for that matter, are the ridiculously slow ticket machines. There's a stress that cannot be compared to anything else when you hear the train rolling in and the machine takes half a minute just to bring up 'Union' station on the search. Practically a couple minutes just to get your ticket.

I recommend using your Presto card instead of the ticket machines if you are able, because the machines are super clunky. That's everybody though, not just this station. There's lots of free surface parking if you need it, but Brampton transit has many buses that go to Brampton Bus Terminal/Brampton GO so you can ditch the car entirely if you want! The area has a lot of good shops around it, but there are a few dodgy bits, so keep aware of your surroundings.
