That worked wonderfully for us on our recent visit where we were so disappointed to find the city practically a ghost town and all the spots we'd been so excited to visit closed because it was a Monday. My friend and her young daughters and I had a terrific time perusing the eclectic offerings, including tons of great vintage and legit labels. We were offered coffee, and the gal working was super welcoming. Prices are a touch on the high side, but there are some great sales (all pink and green tickets were 25% off on our visit, and they always have sales on Mondays, which makes it a doubly delightful day to visit). My friend's kids were over the moon at the fancy outfits they found for the Captain's Dinner on their upcoming cruise.

I found (3) items to try on and she placed them in the dressing room. She took time to check back in to see if there was anything I needed and was very helpful. Checking out with the owner was another experience. She rang up a necklace and the looked at the price tag on the jacket, I had hoped to purchase. She looked at me and said the wrong price was on the jacket. "Obviously someone has put a different price tag on this coat", With that, she ripped the price tag off and looked at me as if I had replaced the tag. I told her I did not that that was the tag that was on the coat. The tag did not look like it had been tampered with, and I was not sure where she was going with her acquisition. There were a number of other customers standing around the check out counter. I was embarrassed with the way she handled this. . Needless to say, I did not purchase the jacket. She may have had a bad day. I hope she treats her other customers better than she did today.

The store is chock full of sweatshirts, t-shirts, and more. I found a sweatshirt that I liked but they didn't have my size, so an employee told me I could probably find it online. I did look but couldn't see it there, so it may just be luck of the draw if you are looking for something specific. They had a big clearance section in back that we looked through - I saw a lot of cropped tees which I know are popular but definitely not for me. Classic styles can still be found at Marushka though. Some of the prints were just a little too whimsical for me to consider wearing, but I did enjoy looking at them and they brought a smile to my face. I think that's part of the whole point - so even though I didn't purchase anything, this shop still brought me joy. Definitely a great spot to find kids' clothes.

I went happily into this store to buy a birthday gift for a sweet 5 year old girl. I got excited…read moreover the selection of many of her favorite things. As I talked to the clerk about how cute things were and how hard it was to decide, she snubbed me and grabbed the items and started ringing them up. I told her I was still deciding and to help the next person. Once I decided, she rang up my items. I asked if she could gift wrap and she snapped that there was no gift wrapping during the sidewalk sale. I said ok, but could I have a piece of the ribbon they usually use? Once again snapped, " no, we aren't doing any of that!" Another clerk came in and the first one was busy with another customer. I asked second clerk if it was be possible to get a box so that I could wrap my gift myself. The first clerk yelled across the counter and said I already told you we aren't doing any of that. Maybe she was annoyed by me, but I nicely asked and I believe I was kind to her. I told her she could try to be nicer. Once again, she rudely snapped , "I was nice!" My happy mood when I walked in disolved immediately. Maybe a sign should've been posted that during the sidewalk sale they won't give boxes or a gift wrap and the gift wrap could be put away in the back. With today's online ordering trend, I would think that the store would want to be especially nice to its customers. I understand it's very hard to run a small business in this day and age. I will likely take my business elsewhere.

This store sets right across from City Hall in a former residence that has been repurposed as a business and may be easily missed! Many vendors sell their hand crafted items in this shop. In fact they also do classes on Saturdays in their "Maker Space". I was inspired to visit on this snowy day in November. I browsed for gifts and enjoyed a conversation with an owner. I love that this shop is bridging the gap between business districts. They are bringing the best of downtown to the "Seventh Street district", (some of my favorite shops and businesses...JW's, Tenden, Bekins, Guitar Haven, Krizan's Citgo) Opening this business, in my opinion, is a gutsy move during this pandemic. I tip my hat and wish them well. I will be back and encourage you to visit this shop, attend a Saturday class, and browse for gifts. Their website has class schedules and vendor applications. This post makes me kind of bummed, because I like to support local small businesses in Grand Haven…read more I'm no longer going to support The Lark on Washington though. Today I brought a dress back to The Lark that I had purchased two weeks earlier. I had purchased the dress 2 days before my son's (casual) wedding, liked it when I tried it on in the store, found sandals to with it and was glad to be all set. I put the dress on while getting ready and discovered that it's label kept folding over the outside back of the dress. I smoothed it back and believed the issue was resolved. Went off to the wedding where I was alerted many times during the evening that "your tag is sticking out." No matter how many times the labels were put back in place, they kept escaping to the outside of the dress. Back home, I hung up the dress to deal with when I could. Since the 8/24 event we have had out-of-town guests (the wedding part), Labor Day weekend craziness and the start of my (school) work year. Finally, I was able to get to The Lark today with the dress AND THE RECEIPT. I kindly told the clerks that I didn't actually want to return the dress (I liked it), but that something was wrong with it and that I hoped it could be resolved. We tried to problem-solve, but they kept asking me what I wanted to do. They were not terrifically proactive. I suggested an exchange, but they discovered that ALL the dresses in that lot had the same defect. I suggested a price reduction to compensate for a seamstress fix. They suggested cutting off the label but decided that that would damage the existing seam. I suggested sending it back the supplier for resolution. Finally, one clerk picked up a phone to call the owner and then handed the phone to me to "plead my case." The owner told me that it was MY decision to wear the dress. Yes, I was at my son's wedding when it was obvious that the defect was a continuing problem. The owner told me that the price tags were not on it. Yes, I took them off because I wore the dress to my son's wedding. The owner told me that the dress had been worn. Yes, again, I wore it to my son's wedding. The owner told me that other people had purchased the dress in other colors, and none had been returned. Umm...ok. The owner told me that I should have returned the dress within 10 days. Yup. However, I kind of seriously doubt that given all the other reasons this was MY FAULT, adhering to the 10-day policy would have altered what, at the heart of it, is HORRIBLE CUSTOMER SERVICE at The Lark on Washington. So sad, really.
