This was especially awesome to learn, given that my car is a Subaru Forester Turbocharged. Mike knew his stuff. He showed me all the things that needed attention and broke down the cost. It cost me a bit to have this work done, but Mike isn't going to screw you over. He's passionate, energetic, and truly enjoys his work. With its old mill buildings and depressed-but-still-trying downtown shopping area, little Maynard was once on the brink of wild prosperity during the 1980s when computer manufacturer Digital Equipment Corporation was pouring jobs and cash into the area like a high-tech fire hose. But sales of the company's profitable mainframes dwindled after it failed to successfully transition to personal computers, and it quietly expired in the late 1990s. You won't find them on Twitter or Facebook: Shorette's is a small garage right out of the 1960s, with prices to match. The dimly-lit "customer waiting area" is crammed with dust-covered displays of fan belts, replacement gas caps, and carburetor gasket kits. The owner/operator and his elderly father have run the place for ages, and there is an archetypal "back room" behind the counter where they hang out and play cards or do whatever old time garage guys do. I paid what I consider pre-War prices for a brake job, and business was brisk when I stopped by. Apparently word has gotten around that you can still get this kind of "No BS - done right the first time" service if you're willing to go out to Maynard for it.

Furthermore, these stores won't be able to do the job till January. I am very much appreciated Mr. Hansen make the process so simple for me. I drove my car (2015 Acura MDX) very late of the day to his shop. It was getter dark. But, with no complaints, he took a look and gave me a quote and emailed it to me. It sounds unbelievable. To confirm, I drove to his shop the other day and asked him whether he wanted to check it again. He kindly turned me down and told me he did not have to do it again. Well, I then left my car in his shop for a couple days, got everything fixed as we had talked about, paid as much as we agreed, and went home as a happy customer. I felt they were honest and professional, which has been the reason why they have been entrusted to serve the community for so many years.

I want to start this off by saying I had been a loyal customer of Funhond and the owner Chang for…read moreover three years and referred multiple people to his business but that all recently changed. I also want to point out that Funhondas no longer has a physical presence and that you need to call the owner Chang to have him come and pick up your tires and have them installed and then he returns with them. So I recommended a close family member to Funhonda and had them call to set an appointment up and Chang requested that an email be sent as a reminder to him and include the details. Now this person I had call is not very car literate so I made out the email for them with specific directions as to which tires had to be mounted each way and Chang knew that the details were going to be in the email. Chang arrived and asked a couple of questions to this family member. I was not there when this happened but they basically were a little confused by his questions and just agreed with whatever Chang asked and that were on his printed work order. I also want to point out that Chang never gave them a copy of the work order or had them sign anything. Well the tires were dropped back off later that day and when I get home I noticed they were mounted the wrong way. Originally I thought this was an honest mistake and had the family member call Chang back. Well Chang originally decided to try and blame this person for giving conflicting information when he came over to pick up the tires, even though he had it written in front of him and in the email exactly what needed to be done. Chang wanted to have us pay 50% of the original price to have everything redone and email him again with details since he was busy driving. We emailed him back asking him to fix the mistake on goodwill since we did not get what was paid for and also that's lot of business had been sent his way from my end. I also understand that he runs the business as an individual and offered to pay $10 cash for gas as goodwill on our end, something that I believed was fair considering that there is no cost in car parts and everything is labor. Well we got an email back and Chang told us no to a fixing the mistake that he caused and also rescinded the offer of having us pay 50% of the original cost. I was a little taken aback at his utter lack of customer service, responsibility, and that he cared more about the money than the relationship we had built up over the years. I had originally found Chang and Funhonda when I was racing and he raced as well. To me today this was disappointing event. I can honestly say that I will not go back to Funhonda or recommend anyone to this place either. I also want anyone that does goes to him to make sure you get a work order or invoice from him, especially if you pay in cash. Out of all the reviews I have written this was the hardest one to finish because it is a review I sorely did not want to write because Chang really seemed like a nice guy with a great business. But now I know the real person and I want to make sure that other people are not screwed over by Funhonda.

I bought Nokian all season tires and snow tires from Chang, and he changed and rotated them each season before his building was sold. He now offers the convenience of going to customers' homes with his well-equipped van to install/repair/change tires and do other work, mostly (but not exclusively) on Hondas. As my husband and I get older, it's very convenient to have him come to our condominium and make our seasonal tire switch. He kindly lugs the tires in and out of our basement across a lawn and down some stairs without adding to the cost. I strongly recommend Chang's work and reasonable pricing, am confident of his integrity, and know from others that he and his work are highly regarded.
