I worked out here several years ago and it was great, so it's the first place I looked when I needed to restart a workout routine. It felt good to be going back and the workout and coaching was good as ever, and you can still take classes at Atlanta Kick, too. But I am disappointed that no kettlebell class is offered at AK, and yoga is just once a month. One of the best CrossFit gyms I've ever been to, and I've been to a LOT of gyms. They've been more than accommodating to me and everyone is super helpful, kind, and laid back. I've been training for years but prefer to mix in supplemental lifting and other programming with CrossFit, this programming is so good, I don't need as much extra lifting. Thought it would be a good time to update my review. So I've been a crossfitter for almost a year and a half now and I still have so much love and passion for the CrossFit program and this gym! I've been able to accomplish many personal goals: - I am the smallest I've ever been! I now weigh around 160 lbs, have a 29 inch waist and can wear a size small t-shirt! - I've been the fittest I've ever been in my life! I'm fast, strong and have excellent endurance. I'm still working on my flexibility but will eventually get there. - Changed my life. Probably the most important...I feel like a new person and feel like I can accomplish anything. I want the best that life offers and I'm not afraid to seize it. I eat clean with the Paleo Diet, I have a very positive attitude, I'm confident and know what I want in life. Ak crossfit is just amazing. I have been going to AK Crossfit for over an year now and decided it's high time I need to post a review for this place. The coaches are extremely knowledgeable and competitive. The have a 1 on 1 meetng with you before you join and try to understand your goals and guide you towards achieving them. They give personal attention to every single person and know what your limitations are. Their programming is so good my body cries after every single wod. The facility is huge and has quality equipment. They keep conducting various events like Christmas party, BBQ parties, wine and wods, Bros and brews etc which helps in socializing with other people. They also help you in achieving goals by conducting nutritional challenges which gears you towards healthy eating. It is also one of the few certified Starting Strength gyms in the country and they have a program where you can get stronger. You can also avail other classes like Kickboxing, karate, kettle bell training, laughing yoga, silks etc all on the same membership. AK has been more of a family to me than a box. I've tried lots of workout programs before, and this one is truly addictive. It's incredible to work out for such a brief period of time (many workouts are about 15-30 minutes long), and feel like I got my butt kicked! It's amazing. No more boring treadmills or ellipticals. The workouts are always interesting, and because I'm learning new skills - I know I'll never get bored. I've tried other CrossFit gyms in Atlanta, and the thing that makes AK CrossFit unique is their special attention to beginners. CrossFit style workouts are simple, but not easy, and the coaches and staff make sure that everyone is moving in a way that is super safe and allows you to get the most out of your workout. I'd recommend this gym / program to anyone who is interested in getting into great shape, improving their health, and making new friends. I began my trial at AK on 2/14, two days after the end of a soul-crushing breakup. People brought in photos of their exes and taped them to their punching bags! Genius. For months I gleefully imagined smashing my ex's face. This was my first gym. I was once at a kettle bell workshop, where my form was so bad they told me to stop. I developed a fitness addiction and became a CrossFit groupie after my first workout last January when AKCrossFit opened. CrossFit marked the beginning of a change in my approach to life, food, and physical fitness. Having a career that absorbs most of my time, it is very hard for me to spend an hour running or an hour or two in the gym. Therefore, the short intense workouts are one of the best things about CrossFit. I can generally get in an amazing full body workout in about 20 to 30 mins. My CrossFit experience at AK has shown me some of my greatest strengths as well as my biggest weaknesses. AKCrossFit is a great place to start CrossFit because there is great attention paid to form and the fundamental movements of CrossFit, so as you improve and challenge yourself you are doing the workouts to reduce injury and perform at the highest possible level. CrossFit is not just for people who have been working out for a long time (and even if you have you will probably see, as I did, that you aren't in as good a shape as you think!) everything can be scaled and made to fit your fitness level and goals. The coaches/trainers and people at AKCrossFit are great and have become some of my closest friends. It REALLY Works!! I've been doing Crossfit at AK Crossfit for a few months and I absolutely LOVE IT! The staff along with the fellow members are the best that I have encountered, better than those lame gyms (LA FITNESS!!) The exercises are challenging but very rewarding, most range from 15 minutes to 50 minutes. I have had GREAT results (lost 30 lbs and 3 dress sizes in 3 months) and I am truly addicted to the workouts. Membership price is fair and is unlimited and also includes Unlimited Kickboxing at Atlanta Kick and 2 free Karate classes as well. My boyfriend and I dropped in to AK CrossFit two days in a row when we were traveling through Atlanta. The space was great - clean, roomy, and plenty of equipment. The first day, our WOD got cut short but it was no big deal since we just went back the next morning. Everyone was really nice and friendly, the coaches and the athletes. On the second day, we took some time after class to change and the owner (I think his name was Jeff) stopped by to say hi and invited us back any time. Pretty awesome of him! As a CrossFit owner in Salt Lake City, Utah, any time I'm on the road I try to find a box that I can train at, and I was lucky enough to run into Jeff and Heidi at AK CrossFit... Olympic lifts are dynamic, and without proper care and coaching can be scary and dangerous. But not at AK CrossFit... They've got the form down, and they care enough to make sure you do it right, have fun and breathe hard. I joined AK CrossFit after looking for an exercise regime that would supplement my too infrequent kayak training. Living and working in and around the city I wasn't getting to paddle more than once or twice a week, and that wasn't going to put me in shape for my annual pilgrimage to San Francisco for the US Surfski Championships. I'm one of those people who don't train effectively alone (I do much better with a friend/group/squad/coach) and I wanted an activity I could do during the week that didn't take too much time but delivered effective results. After eliminating some of the usual suspects (gym, running) I found myself at AK CrossFit's Miami Circle location one morning for a Foundations class and haven't looked back since. CrossFit workouts are short (usually around 20 mins), intense (you're always against the clock) and varied (combinations of weightlifting, gymnastic and cardio movements). I've seen strength, fitness and body comp improvements - who would have thought I'd be climbing and jumping like a kid again, never mind doing Olympic lifts. As for AK CrossFit itself I can recommend the staff as friendly, professional and engaged. They emphasize proper technique (important to avoid injury) and always offer encouragement. Although there is a competitive element at our box (who doesn't want to make the benchmark board) AK CrossFit avoids the machismo that seems to accompany some CrossFit affiliates. Communication is good (website, FB) and they encourage a holistic approach to wellness (diet, lifestyle, etc). All I can say is give it a try - it changed my life. read more

This is by far the best gym I have ever been a part of. Every single person (coach or fellow athlete) is extremely nice! Everyone is always pushing each other to get better and the ownership/coaches are always asking what they can do to make the gym a great and fun place to work out. I played sports in high school and college since graduating it's been so hard to try and find a challenging group of people who are just as dedicated to self improvement and competitiveness as I have become. Joining AK CrossFit is just what I was looking for. Here each person is both a player and a coach in some way. Whether it be nutrition, new skills (in gymnastics, weightlifting, cardio, martial arts, etc), or self discipline everyone has something to offer. AK Crossfit is nothing like what I thought Crossfit would be as a complete beginner. I was always intimidated by training this way, and had fears that I would fall behind, not understand instructions, get hurt, or just plain not be strong enough. I have none of these anxieties working out here! The coaches are so welcoming and give clear instructions that make me feel like I can not only execute the lifts safely but grow stronger over time. I have been doing CrossFit for about 5 months now and I really like it. In the past my only luck with sticking with a workout routine was having a trainer, which everyone knows is extremely expensive. After the New Year I decided to get my lazy butt into gear, I had been to Atlanta Kick before for their kick boxing classes, but a friend had told me how much she loved Cross Fit, so I thought I would give it a try. At first, I won't lie, I thought the workouts really tough, but I am glad I stuck it out and kept with it. After the first month or so I got really into it and now I absolutely love it. I started watching my diet a lot when I started and since then have lost a good 10-15 lbs. and have definitely gained muscle and definition. The workouts change every day and are mostly 15-45 minutes long, which I really like. You wouldn't think you could get your butt kicked in 15 minutes, but trust me you can. They generally consist of cardio, weights and resistance type stuff. Everyone does the same workout, but you adjust them to your fitness level. What I like most about it other than the length of workouts is that it is comparable to having a personal trainer for a fraction of the cost. I go mainly to the 9:45am slot and there are roughly 5-10 people there on average, maybe more in the Summer time as people's schedules change. So you can get as much personal attention as you want/need. The staff is always fantastic, it's sort of like a little community, you make friends that are on your workout schedule, etc. so it's much easier to come every day. I hated going to LA Fitness, it was so boring, so I basically never went, lol! If you join AK Crossfit the kickboxing classes are included in your membership. They also have a lot of extra activities like boot camps you can attend at various Atlanta parks, yoga sessions, food/diet workshops, etc. I guess that's pretty much it, if you are really serious about getting into shape and have done the $30/mo. LA Fitness type memberships over and over again and failed (like me), give AK Crossfit a try. When I started there was a 30 day trial period, I'm not sure if they still do that, but if so you have nothing to lose! read more

I can't speak highly enough about AK Crossfit and the team of amazing trainers. I have always been so afraid of weightlifting and feeling as though I was not capable of accomplishing intense workouts. After my first foundations class with AK Crossfit, I knew it was something I wanted to stick to and attempt to reach some of my personal goals. The trainers made me feeling nothing but 100% comfortable and confident in my ability to learn and accomplish things as a beginner. I never felt intimidated or uncomfortable. I found my way to Crossfit when I was looking for ways to get in extra workouts beyond bootcamp and running, and I immediately fell in love. The thing I find appealing about the workouts is how hard of a workout I can get in a much shorter period of time. Most workouts are 20 minutes or less, and I always feel like I get my butt kicked. Many of the workouts include weights, which is a nice change compared to running/bootcamp. But the Crossfit workouts lack the boring elements you find lifting weights at a regular gym. You're always working out with a group, so there are people there to give you a motivational boost if you're lacking it. Crossfit workouts scale based upon your level of fitness, so don't feel like you have to be some sort of fitness freak to fit in. The thing that sets Atlanta Kick (AK) apart from other Crossfit gyms is the people. The trainers are top notch, and are very focused on making sure that your form is correct and that you are stepping outside of the comfort zone at every workout. Beyond their technical proficiency, they are great people. They've always made me feel like a welcome friend, rather than some sort of random member. When I've been MIA due to work/travel schedules, I can be sure that I'll get an email to make sure that I'm ok and wondering when I'm coming back to workout. Ask anyone who knows me, I am a HUGE fan of CrossFit. I have always been into working out and over the years I have tried many different things, but nothing has whipped me into shape like CrossFit. Like many girls, I started out skeptical saying; "I don't want to get bulky" and "how could a 20 minute workout really be enough?" But, I decided to stick it out and give it a try and as a result I am the fittest and slimmest I have ever been! The best part about CrossFit is that it's a different workout every day. You never get bored because you never do the same workout twice. Although it is hard to believe, you truly get an intense, full body workout in these 15-30 minute classes. I have friends who are members of different CrossFit gyms across the country but none of them seem to feel the sense of community like we do at AK CrossFit. All of the trainers are friendly, positive and encouraging, they make the workouts fun! Since joining CrossFit in January 2010 I have not only increased my endurance and physical fitness but I have accomplished things I never thought I could. I attended my first class at AK CrossFit about a month ago and was immediately hooked. Every time I set foot in this gym, I'm challenged, physically and mentally, and that's exactly what keeps me coming back. The workouts vary day to day, are super intensive, average about 20 minutes and consist of unconventional exercises that will leave you sore (in a good way) for days after. What a great customer service. I have never felt such warmth and proper welcome from a gym. I was treated like a valued client, and they never cease to amaze me with their hospitality. There were times when the gym can get really crowded, but they always find a time to greet me and orient me of what is happening. This is a review of the AK Crossfit gym, not Crossfit itself. To be perfectly honest, you'll get great results no matter what Crossfit gym you go to. What sets this gym apart from the others is the people who train here. From the owners down through to coaches and to the people who work hard here everyday, everyone is great. There are no egos and it's a shockingly supportive place for people just entering the Crossfit world. Seasoned vets have no problem giving out little bits of advice to new people on how to do things better. For people familiar with Crossfit, and who might be training on their own, there are people here that get very competitive who will help push you to the next level. Everyone interested in getting fit in the real sense of the world (stronger, quicker, more explosive) to try out new sports or just to make everyday activities more enjoyable, should come check this gym out. There are cardio kick boxing classes included with your membership dues, but I've never taken a class so I can't really comment on them. Dues are $169 or $149 a month if you sign up with a friend. No hidden fees, no BS. Much more reasonable than $200 for Crossfit Peachtree or $250 for Crossfit Atlanta. read more

I have been going to AKCrossFit for a little over three months. Here is why I love it: It all starts with results. Many programs can claim results, but what are the elements you need to get them? For many, it is: - a well-designed program, including the core concepts of muscle confusion and intensity. - the structure of a set program, so you can measure progress - the flexibility of the program so that whatever your starting fitness level you can improve. - camaraderie, so you don't get bored, and you can have social confirmation and fun. All this needs to be at a location that is easy to find and welcoming when you get there. I get results with AKCrossFit, because of all that and more. The program is well designed and is definitely intense - which frankly is the most efficient way to get fit. Any fitness level can be accommodated. AKCrossFit, specifically, is awesome. I drop in at AK CrossFit when I'm in town and away from my home box, and I've had a great experience every time. The trainers are personable and warm, and always make sure to learn my name and get a sense of my level even when I'm only around for a short period of time. The other athletes seem to have a great community, too; no one has ever let me be anonymous in a workout -- someone always introduces themselves and the requisite CrossFit high-fives and good-jobs are plentiful at the end of a workout. I also think this box has good programming for novice to intermediate athletes, while always giving more advanced people an opportunity to push it further. My own home box sometimes forgets to offer scalings for people earlier in their CF careers, and I can tell that the folks at AK have considered all levels. A shoutout also to the gender balance here -- lots of women working out at a really high level, and female trainers, too, which I always appreciate. I joined AK Crossfit after carefully looking at a few other facilities around Atlanta. I was already familiar with the AK Crossfit's sister company's of Operation Boot Camp and Atlanta Kick. I have always had a positive experience with them but I wanted to do my due diligence when I decided to try Crossfit. The level of professionalism and overall friendliness that AK's trainers impart is second to none. I think that I drive by 3 different CrossFit gyms to reach AK, but I believe I am training in the right place. Now the workouts ... Crossfit was a new venture for me and like many I was nervous to start. However the crew at AK conducts a helpful "Foundations" class that instructs you on the basics to help get you acclimated. Certain base line and fundamental exercises that you will use the entire time in Crossfit which allow you to build on them and improve. The WOD's or Work out of the Day's are challenging and intense. However they are also quick and unique everyday. I walk in everyday with nervous anticipation of what we are going to tackle today. But once the clock starts and the workout begins, all the nervous energy translates into concentrating on proper form and technique. All of the trainers continue their encouragement and teaching. I have no problem saying that these are the most challenging and rewarding workouts that I have ever done. It is not important if you are lifting hundreds of pounds or just a few ... everyone is trying to reach their personal best. That in my opinion is what makes Crossfit so appealing to so many. Benefits ... My reasons for starting CrossFit are much like everyone I suppose. I have personal strength and weight loss goals. There is also some vanity of wanting to look good for sure. But more importantly, I want to create a much healthier lifestyle. I travel for a living in an industry that includes a lot of late nights. Two huge benefits that I have noticed just a few weeks in are that I actually am craving healthier foods. And that I am sleeping so much better. This has in turn provided me with much more energy at work and I am more productive. The accomplishment I receive from finishing a Workout of the Day is such a tremendous feeling. Support ... My wife tried effortlessly for about a year to convince me to give CrossFit a try. I was the type to think that my workout at the gym was the "best way" and that I was maximizing my efforts. I quickly determined that I have been wasting my time at the gym for the last several years. Discovering CrossFit changed the fitness part of my life dramatically. It is like having a personal trainer every day. The trainers are motivational, inspirational and they will challenge you to accomplish and achieve results you never thought you could. I am 42 years old and in the best shape of my life. CrossFit is good for me for so many reasons. It is challenging and diverse with a different workout every day which keeps things from getting boring. It has "benchmark" days which allow you to measure your results from time to time to make sure you are improving. It has an atmosphere that inspires motivation between your peers and allows you to push and encourage one another. If you are 100% serious about getting in shape and increasing your overall health, CrossFit will get you there, it's that simple. I love this gym! I am really the solo-type exerciser. I like to ride my bike, I used to like to run (till I got my bike), and I never really participated in group activities before. So I was quite intimidated when I stepped in to the gym, but my fears were quickly assuaged in my first class. The instructors are all super helpful and encouraging, even if you are still completing the WOD while everyone else is finished. There are people in the classes of all ages, fitness levels and body sizes, so it isn't as intimidating as a regular gym. The gym is clean and has great equipment. The classes are at multiple times in the evening so if you miss one, you can catch the next. And they are adding new classes all the time.
