We did a dog sled tour in Alaska and it was hands-down one of the highlights of our trip. Cooper was our musher and he was dope. Jessica, our kennel guide, was just as amazing. She walked us through everything, answered all our questions, and made sure we felt comfortable the entire time. Her passion for the dogs really showed. My husband and I were picked up by Cate, Bobby and Enzo. It was a short ride to the AKSledDog Tours by Dallas Seavey property. Cate filled us in on safety and how to behave with the working dogs. She demonstrated then allowed us practice time on how to stop the cart and how to operate the breaking mechanisms. She also instructed us to steer the cart not the dogs. That was important. The cart we operated was designed by 6 X Iditarod champion Dallas Seavey. She gave us an opportunity to take turns riding and steering with several breaks for the animals to cool off and get water. It was the most exhilarating ride and such a wonderful opportunity to get a glimpse into the training that is involved to mush dogs. Cate led the team on a vehicle and we were instructed to hang back slightly so that the dogs weren't ingesting fumes. Afterward, we were able to see the mushers cabin, the erected finish line post, a hickory antique sled, equipment used by participants on the Iditarod race as well as hear about the rules for every racer, see a vet log, and equipment to keep thdogs safe. We were able to pet the dogs and visit with the 5 week old puppies. These are beautiful animals and getting close and personal with them was a real blessing. We had a sensational time and the memory of this experience will last a lifetime. Jessica took us back to town and offered more conversation. We had the best time learning about dog sledding and the iditarod Race. If your a dog lover, this is the place to see and experience k9 athletes in action. Our guides were true professionals and the explanation of dog mushing was very clear and I was able to understand instructions well. Do not be concerned. This is the best way in my opinion to travel and cover many miles of land in a short period of time. Super beautiful country out here. It is cold for sure and don't forget your hand warmers. Perfect experience with the best. Why not pick the company of the guy whose family has an amazing history of winning the Iditarod? We were able to get in last minute to session and it was amazing. After a short van ride to the property and a brief introduction we went to meet the new puppies. Then we met several of the many dogs on sight. All were very friendly and eager to say hello. Then you get to drive a sled dog team (pulling a wheeled cart in the summer) and a loop through the woods. It was about 6 miles and maybe 40 minutes which was a perfect time for the experience. Back at the property they then give you an interesting history of the Iditarod and the Seavey family involvement. Knowledgeable and friendly staff. Highly recommend, especially if you are dog/puppy person! read more

MUST DO!! The Dallas Seavy sled dog tour was the highlight of our entire Alaska vacation - by far. Dallas is a 5 time Iditarod winner... SO amazing!! We got to learn a lot about how he cares for and trains these beautiful Alaskan Huskies. His commitment to the animals and sport is inspiring. Next, we played with the young pups... fell in love with them all! Then we did the 3-mile sledding around the area. LOVED it!! We had a blast at Dallas Seavy Sled Dog Tours! Really, it exceeded our 6-person group's expectations. We arrived a little early for our tour...earlier than the instructions tell you. In fact, I believe they said "do not arrive too early because your tour guide will still be preparing the dog team(s) for you." Whoops! Sure enough when we arrived our tour guide, Elliot, and the other guides were busy getting the dogs situated. Eventually, Elliot was able to break free and welcome us into their cabin to sign waivers and use the restroom one last time before departing on the tour. Once complete, we went back outside, were given brief instructions on how the sled operates and the "do's" and "don'ts" of dog sledding. Elliot then assigned us a 5-dog team and we were off on our tour through the woods of Talkeetna. To bust a few myths: 1) Yes you drive your own dog sled! 2) The sleds aren't all that easy to steer...in fact, you don't steer at all on these. 3) Five dogs can pull you pretty fast - just imagine what 14 can do. 4) Some of the sled dogs are "retired" Iditarod champions (some of them multiple-time champions) 5) The dogs are friendly and are socialized with humans at very early ages. Although they were amped to get moving, they were very gentle with my 1.5 year old niece. No aggression whatsoever. I was surprised! If you like dogs, are interested in dog sledding and want to learn a fraction of what goes into making champion dog teams, give this tour a try! read more

Amazing experience! Elliot was a wonderful greater. He oriented us with the compound and ensured we were comfortable and warm. We were very thankful for the hand warmers! He did a great job teaching us about Dallas's sled dogs and explaining the history of Dallas's success. Driving our own dog sled team with retired Iditarod champion dogs was amazing! They knew exactly what to do! I was pleasantly surprised that we were able to cuddle the new pups! A wonderful experience! This is the BEST!!!!! YOU GET TO DRIVE YOUR OWN SLED!!!!!!! Seriously, this was awesome! We had so much fun and would do it again in a heartbeat! It's the only one where you get to drive your own sled with your own team. Our team was Rody, Moonshine and Ringer. Then, you get to go into the dog yard and pet ANY dog you want. Including the puppy pens! You can pet them, wrap your arms around them or pick up the puppies. Unlike some of the others kennels we went to where the dogs were lethargic about attention, these dogs love it! The staff is amazing and so friendly! You should definitely do this!!!!! read more

We had a blast dog sledding on wheeled carts with a team of 3 dogs. It's the summer alternative and great fun. The guide explains how to drive the sled and stay safe, and also drives the lead team. We were in 2 person carts behind him, with another guide behind. We went over hills and around corners, smiling all the way! After the 45 minute run, we met other dogs and heard more about Iditarod racing. The dogs were beautiful and friendly, well cared for and healthy. Guides were great too. We loved the whole experience. We would do it again in a heartbeat! read more
