What a great experience! This was a bucket list item that I didn't know I was missing. Chris at Sheldon Air Service was the perfect pilot for this grad adventure. I called early in the morning and let it be known that I wanted a flight on one of two days, time didn't matter. I was contacted a couple of hours later to let me know I could join three others on a flight at 4 pm. Yay! The ground crew (sorry didn't get names) were very helpful and supplied dark sunglasses and overshoes (the glacier landing was a bit mushy for my tennis shoes). Chris gave a great safety briefing and we were off. They don't fly if the weather is hiding all of the mountains and glaciers. We had some clouds, which I think added some mystery to the sights. The small Beaver plane had room for 5 plus the pilot (you got to let him com) but ther were only 4. I got the back seat so I could see out both sides. The plane was clean and the flight was generally smooth. The pictures just can't do justice to the amazing views and the scale of the mountains and glaciers.

    The beautiful land beneath us!

However, that was one of the only good things I experienced throughout my expedition. Colby, I said I wouldn't leave a negative review but you couldn't even call me personally after 3 of your guides physically stole money out of a cache on the mountain that we discussed about. So here we are. Not only did my guides steal from me, my lead guide was atrocious. He lacked professionalism, continuously ignored the clients and on top of this used "his friends" to get me off the mountain. I was helicoptered off the mountain for frost bite that never was, while Keith my guide has a BLACK nose. Yes completely frost bite nose. Yes, I know that call was from a park ranger to remove me and. Or the guide, but when your lead guide says he's going to give you 20 minutes to warm your toes up and then we'll re check, and then goes direct to the ranger tent less than 5 mins later. There's an issue. He wanted me gone he didn't enjoy my company. I have countless screen shots and recorded messages from all 5 of the climbers in my group corroborating this entire story. We butted heads the entire time because he's a man that can't take outsider criticism. He tried to pass other teams multiple times on some of the most dangerous terrain (windy corner, squirrel hill). Which every attempt to pass he failed at passing. Completely draining energy of 4/4 members of the team. I spoke loudly and always said what was on my mind and that's what Keith sidle didn't like. He wanted to be the king of the mountain. He failed at it, and time robbed me on top of that. He spoke to me like I was his child, he yelled at me an reprimanded me for saying the phrase "today raped me" Aiden, Benny, were good, Benny and absolute unit. He even vouged for my toes being fine to go up, and look puzzled when Keith came back with the rangers. All in all, if you get a lead expedition with Keith at all costs avoid it. AMS, has some good for sure, but my 1 star rating comes from a terrible guide, the guides stealing $400 in cash from my cache bag, and poor communication and zero apology from the owner, Colby. Use mountain trip.

The scenery was breathtaking, and the flight itself should have been one of the highlights of my visit to Alaska. Unfortunately, our guide and pilot, Paul -- who, as I understand it, is also the owner of the business -- turned it into an extremely unpleasant experience. Throughout the trip, Paul was consistently rude, dismissive and thoroughly unprofessional. While the other six passengers were boarding the aircraft one by one, I politely asked whether I could use those couple of minutes to take a photograph. Each passenger needed roughly 30 seconds to board, so my request would not have delayed the group at all. Nevertheless, Paul abruptly refused, without offering any reasonable explanation or showing even basic courtesy. His hostile attitude continued throughout the experience. When we returned, I calmly asked him why he had been so rude to me. His response was that it was "my problem". Even more shockingly, while I was standing by reception and had neither threatened nor insulted him, he physically pushed me. I found this behaviour completely unacceptable. I have travelled to 52 countries and 27 American states, and I have rarely encountered such disrespectful treatment in the tourism industry. A paying guest should never be spoken to or treated in this manner -- particularly by the owner of the company. The natural experience itself is extraordinary: Denali is spectacular, the mountains are unforgettable, and landing on the glacier is genuinely special. However, I strongly recommend requesting any pilot or guide other than Paul. Alaska deserves to be experienced with wonder and excitement, not spoiled by hostility and humiliation. Beautiful destination. Unforgettable scenery. Absolutely appalling customer service from Paul.

One warning for folks like me with ear issues--the cabin's not pressurized, and you do get high--10K feet, which was hard on my ears. During our visit to the Talkeetna area there were wildfires burning, we were unable to make it to the meeting area but Fred and his helper Rich came to the hotel and picked us up so we wouldn't miss out on the fun. He first took us to a secluded spot by a river where the salmon were literally swimming between our feet. We could have reached down and scooped them up, but we were there to learn how to fly fish, so learn we did! Fred was extremely patient with me and my husband....and our limited fishing abilities! He came supplied with everything you could need or want during the tour. The waders fit perfectly, and kept us warm in the glacier water. While driving to our second fishing spot he supplied yummy croissant sandwiches to snack on during the ride. The second fishing spot had just as many salmon and we were able to catch quite a few fish. I had a beautiful trout on my line but unfortunately I didn't snag him and he got off the hook. I was bummed, but Fred is so encouraging before I knew it I had a huge salmon on the line and brought it in successfully. While we enjoyed fishing Rich cooked up some salmon by the shore along with vodka tonic and rum and cokes. We took a break to enjoy a perfect meal of deliciously cooked salmon and a nice cocktail. It was seriously a perfect day, despite the wildfires in area. I just hope that Rich and Fred's property were not impacted. If I am ever back in the area, this would be the first tour I book. It was a great experience and a super fun day!! Thank you Fred and Rich for making this the highlight of our trip!
