While on vacation in Oahu, I had a day trip planned for our last day that I was excited for that required a rental. When my car rental fell through with another large rental company, Budget, due to a shortage when I showed up for my reservation with terrible customer service, I was in a pickle and called around other large rental companies that also had shortages or very expensive options. When I came across Akamai, I called and they not only had cars available, they were reasonably priced, and the costumer service was outstanding. I couldn't figure out how to get my phone connected to the navigation system after awhile and Jon helped me and called someone else to also get extra help and got me all setup. Reservation, pick up, and drop off was seamless and they offered to let me park or overnight if needed. The car was clean, newer, and in great shape. I would highly recommend! Your service was 5/5 because I went to your website and couldn't find the van so I decided to walk up and you got me what I needed and you and your staff was super informative, patient and choices of vehicles were plenty. Thank you. Overall value is 5/5 because you run a very unique rental business!!!!!!! You allow us to park it in your lot overnight, you waved me $60.00 per night for valet at my resort. U was able to walk there within minutes to get the car or drop it off. Just the perfect way to save us some $$ I will for sure come back next trip to rent from you!! This is a must try. Side note: uber/lyft round trip for us would have costed us the same price of the rental if not more, we were able to skip the valet fees at the resort, take the tour as long as we want and just loved this setup. Also if you go to places like dole plantation via uber, your return trip might be a long wait because I didn't see a lot of uber drivers available up that way. Akamai Rentals is exactly what my boyfriend and I ordered for our trip to Oahu! It's situated on the west end of the Waikiki Strip and even offers free parking at night (if you can swing it). Just make sure to be accommodating of other customers and park accordingly! This was a big draw for us, since the valet parking options at the neighboring resorts can be pricy. Woman owned and family run -- I didn't even know places like this existed anymore when all you ever come across out there are the big names! Conveniently located directly across from our hotel, we walked in without a reservation and booked a two-day rental for later in the week. Pick up and drop off was a breeze, and they allow free parking on-site overnight. This is an incredible bonus with hotels in Waikiki charging an arm and a leg for valet. Akamai doesn't allow in/out, but you can self-park at night and then pick up again when they open in the morning. Easy peasy! Everyone there was super nice. Highly recommended! read more

All I can say is AMAZING!!! We needed a rental for the day and since this was walking distance from our hotel we decided to give them a shot. They were absolutely amazing. In and out was so fast and easy it was mind boggling. We first tried Avis at our hotel but were not happy with the rates and limited supply of vehicles. Walked over to Akamai and less than 10 minutes later we had a car! If you're visiting the island, with a doubt go see them! They helped us a lot when we were in a pinch to rent a car for an excursion we had booked without transportation. Our hotel recommended them and when Avis had a line of 15 people, we called and within minutes had a car rental that they scrambled to had clean for us to take within the hour. The owner was very friendly, helpful and knowledgeable and her son was great as well. Little hidden gem if you need a car rental , and you're supporting a local business. Best place to rent from. Akamai made it super easy to rent a car. We were staying at the Halepuna and needed a car for 2 days. I was able to make the online reservation the night before and pick up the next morning at 9am. We picked up the Toyota Carolla and off we went. The car was clean and the staff were super nice. A big reason we chose Akamai was because they offered free parking on their lots after hours (so need for us to pay for hotel parking since it was on the next block). They just request that you park after they close (4pm), leave keys in the drop box overnight so they can move vehicles, and pick up next day after they open. After dropping off the car at the end of our reservation (fill up tank, park in lot, keys in drop box), they refunded our deposit the very next morning. 5 stars for sure. Super easy and simple. I rented from Akamai based upon Yelp reviews, even though I had a reservation from one of the big guys that technically was much cheaper and closer to our hotel, but there were some real advantages to renting here: 1.) walking distance from Waikiki hotels 2.) rental desk and cars are together 3.) could park free at night at the rental company 4.) return allowed after closing time 5.) they are just plainly nice folks The online rental process is a bit more unwieldy (uploading an image of your driver's license), but once you show up, it's as fast or faster than belonging to one of the big players' express checkouts. Everyone was very nice. They were willing to change our reservation when something came up. The car was clean and new. We appreciated being able to park the car back on their lot overnight, and we appreciated being able to return the car after hours. The deposit was returned very early the next morning, so no problem there. We have passed by Akamai Rentals many times but never noticed that it was a vehicle rental company because there is no formal signage prominently displayed. On Yelp, we read some positive reviews, so we decided to try it out - our rental experience was GREAT!!! The rental process was very quick and easy; the staff is very nice and professional. We rented a Toyota Corolla and we received it clean, ready, and filled with gas at the promised time. No long lines nor wasteful procedures. The rental rate was very reasonable and they offer their insurance if you would like - there are no high pressure up-sells. The best advantage is - you can park your rental car in their lot overnight for FREE without having to pay the nearby hotels' outrageous overnight parking rates. They will ask you to put a $500 security deposit down ... to ensure that you will return the car undamaged to them. Once we returned the car, the $500 release was immediately made. We will definitely be renting our cars from Akamai Rentals. The two cons are: there are no public restrooms for customer usage and the lot is easy to overlook due to lack of clear signage, if you are trying to locate it for the first time. But other than these two minor things, we will not hesitate in returning! As an added note, we had forgotten a package in our returned car and they were able to find it and put it aside for us - great service! read more
