This place has the best rates for rental cars, cheaper than Costco (although Costco does offer free 2nd driver). It's only for Honolulu car rental. The cars aren't pristine-they're run of the mill used cars with the usual dents and scratches-but they run well and have never given us any trouble. Bonus- if you're a tourist, your car will blend right in and lessen your chance of getting broken into! :) They also have shuttle service to and from their Mapunapuna location in an industrial area to the airport. There's a big white sign and the front has the name. The staff are super helpful and friendly and pick up and drop off is easy peasy!

Communication was very good. They offered transportation to and from the airports. Since we are under 25, there was an extra fee when renting the car. However, it was a good experience. And extremely affordable if you are 25+. Note: the daily rates are different for different age groups (18 age pays more than 21 age)

I needed a rental car for the weekend to attend an event in Mililani. I was able to book the car on Friday afternoon. I caught an uber to their Māpunapuna location and was greeted by Jaysin at 8:00 a.m. He was working by himself and was able to keep things moving professionally and kept all his customers apprised. There were two customers before me and although they were short-staffed, Jaysin maintained his cool. He managed to check in an incoming rental and get 3 cars out within a 1/2 hour time. Not to mention trouble shoot shuttle pickups, and answering the phone lines. I have rented from Lucky Owl since 2019 so I absolutely love their services and customer service. Jaysin, you've helped me 3 times with my rentals in the last 3-4 months! Mahalo for always having so much aloha! Wow, truly a breath of fresh air in the car rental business. Hands down one of the best I've experienced. I have traveled a lot for work/pleasure and know how to navigate rental car agencies pretty well. Every once in a while they get one over me, especially recent with the electric vehicle push. I also almost always avoid off airport rentals as a rule. Given the price and the glowing reviews I thought I would give Lucky Owl a shot. I'm very glad I did. The pickup process was super easy, just walked across the street from the southwest baggage claim where the pickup spot #4 was designated. Made the call and they were there rather quick. At the counter there was no sales push or tactics, they just verified my ID and CC then handed me the keys. Their rules were clearly laid out next to the window. They took photos of the cars condition and encouraged me to do the same. I also received the exact car stated on my reservation. No issues with the car for the 2 weeks we were there. Someone mentioned you blend in with their cars as a local, I don't know how but it did feel that way, hahaha. I especially liked the rubber floor mats which made cleaning easy. My one recommendation would be a trunk/hatch rubber mat. I know they are much harder to come by, but it would help with sandy beach gear. Speaking of, they even offer to rent beach gear! My airbnb came with some, but its great to know for next time. Drop off was just as easy as pickup. Their rental terms mention excess sand has a fee and there is a Texaco close to their location with vacuums. I wasn't sure if we had reached the "excess" level but why not treat the car with respect and clean up after yourself since Lucky Owl treated us well. When I got back they took a couple photos of the condition just like the pickup and had the shuttle ready to take me to the airport. No question I will be renting from here again next time in Oahu! They also have some friendly cats to greet you. read more

We had a mishap with the key fob not working while we were at the beach on the east side of the island. When we realized it wasn't working, we immediately opened up the fob and found old looking corrosion inside around the battery area. We put a new battery in it and left it open to dry out (if moisture had gotten in it). After troubleshooting to no avail, I called the company and they sent someone out charging a $75 "roadside assistance fee" where a representative brought out a spare key fob. Unfortunately, the replacement fob did not start the car (or even unlock/lock the car). The representative was friendly, but not knowledgeable on other troubleshooting steps to get us back on the road. With the replacement fob taken apart (to swap/replace the battery) the original fob eventually started the car. We even tested it further by turning off and on the car a few times to make sure the old fob was working again. We then drove the vehicle to our next destination, and when we went to leave the car wouldn't start again... we made the most of it and had dinner while further drying out the original fob to see if that would help. In the meantime the company sent a replacement vehicle (at no additional charge). When the rep went to start the original car, it stated right away. The following day, I received a voicemail to go over the additional replacement fob and roadside assistance charges. The voicemail said to reference the email and/or call back for questions. I never received the email after 10 minutes of checking, and then I got a large credit card notification; $350 for the damaged key and $75 for the roadside assistance. I didn't appreciate being charged without being talked to first. When I immediately called back to politely ask some clarifying questions, the person on the phone was very rude and raised his voice to me and my wife. Given that the original fob appeared to have prior water damage and the fact that it did start the car (after drying out, replacing the battery) it was disappointing to be charged $425 for something that may, or may not, have been our fault. And to then be yelled at for asking questions. At the end of the day, the whole ordeal cost us valuable vacation time, added stress, and drastically altered our plans. The car rental itself was affordable but the first car we ended up with was older and a little dingy. read more

A Google search led me to this company. I compared prices with several rental car companies and this establishment offered the best pricing. I made a reservation online and received a confirmation email. Reminders were received via text. Airport shuttle pick-up/drop-off is offered between 8am - 5:45pm daily. Have your license and proof of insurance ready during pick-up. The vehicle we rented was scratched up and dented, but there were no performance issues. It ran well and had good gas mileage. Don't forget to take photos of the vehicle during the initial inspection and conduct a thorough walk-around! Great staff and service. Highly recommend! read more

Best service and staff, both when picking up and returning vehicle, I needed a large van last minute and booked it one month prior to when i needed it. None of the major rental companies had anything available. Lucky owl had a couple of options and i choose the GMC. When picking up vehicle, they take pics of the vehicle and show you all the defects they have before you sign for it. I thought that was awesome. I also got a booster chair for $5 a day and it was nice and clean with no smells, Will definitely be a repeat customer, will try the smaller vehicles when i am in need again. The service to get my car was quick enough. The shuttle service from the airport was easy to manage. The car I rented was not in good shape. Dents and scratches everywhere and over 10 years old. That was fine because it was a budget rental car company. However, the car itself did not run well. I had to floor the accelerator just to get the car moving. I brought the car back with no issues, and was given the OK after the inspection. 15 minutes after I left the lot, I got a call that I needed to come back because they claimed they found a scratch that wasn't there before I rented it. The person on the phone was extremely rude to me and said if I didn't come back and sign the incident report, I would forfeit my deposit. This is a very shady way to do business, and I suggest going to a regular car rental company instead like Enterprise or Budget. Whatever money you save here is not worth this trouble. I have serious doubts that the money they got from my insurance will be used to fix the alleged 'damage' on this car, as there were dents and scratches all over it beforehand. read more

Great experience here. Only mistake we made was not being very precise in our pickup time, the rental got auto cancelled after an hour but when we called they said it was no problem and held the car. Car was in great shape, had no issues, return was fast and easy and the shuttle to the airport was prompt. Seemed very trustworthy, didn't get nickle and dimed over anything. Price was competitive. Will use again the next time I'm visiting. read more

Great experience renting a car here for a week. Unfortunately we ended up getting rear-ended on the way to return the car. It was very stressful and I thought we'd be dealing with it all day, but the employee Jaysin, was very helpful and we were out of there in a few minutes. Our flight gets in at 10:45 pm but they close at 8 p.m. Is there any way we could pick up a car at that time? Or maybe the best way would be to take a taxi to our hotel the first night, take two aspirin and call them in the morning...

The company sends me confirmation email and gives directions to locate the driver after arrival in the email. I then make payment online and prepare cash tip for driver. The driver monitors my plane arrival time and sends text message promptly. Instead of fighting through taxi/Uber crowds, I get direction to locate the driver at a private parking lot across the arrival hall. The driver is always polite and pleasant. He keeps his car clean. The ride is always smooth which makes the beginning of our Oahu vacation super expressly simple. Highly recommended if you need a private shuttle service.

However, the drivers actually pull into the hotel to pick up passengers. My girlfriends and I had two different pickup times, and on both occasions we nearly missed our rides because we were given incorrect instructions by dispatch. To make matters worse, Courtney, the manager, was rude, dismissive, and extremely unprofessional when we tried to resolve the issue. Ironically, both drivers apologized and told us that dispatch frequently gives guests the wrong pickup instructions. The only bright spot was our driver, Scott. He was friendly, professional, and outstanding. He deserves recognition for providing excellent customer service despite the confusion created by dispatch. Management needs to address this communication breakdown immediately so future travelers don't have the same frustrating experience.

Keith seems to be the only guy working here. There's a gal in the convenience store that handles the gas dispensers. She told me that Keith will be right with me. I think Keith took a car around the block for a spin. Then he had to attend to a guy that maybe had a serious problem. When Keith had time, I asked him to check my oil level since the indicator light flashed on. He asked me to move my car closer. I had parked on the other side of the building because the right side was filled with vehicles. Eventually, he got to me, turned on the ignition and saw the indicator light. He popped the hood, whipped out the oil stick and showed me that the level was fine. He said the light could have been triggered by the oil not circulating... or other reasons. Hmmm... Ok... At least I had enough oil! I appreciate his quick diagnosis - especially because I was a walk-in and an unknown...

My friend and I had the delight of renting from Lucky Owl. We were in Hawaii for a few days and wanted to be able to get away from Waikiki. We hit up Lucky Owl and got a great price. The staff (AUGH I'M SO BAD WITH NAMES BUT HE WAS SO NICE) picked us up from our hotel to take us to pick up the car. On the way, we asked about some activities we could do and he gave us several options and many that we actually ended up doing! Also the Hawaiian restaurant he recommended was SO DELICIOUS! The car wasn't anything fancy and was pretty well-loved, but I'm not a picky person when it comes to that. We just needed something reliable with A/C, and that's what we got! They were also VERY understanding when we kept changing times on them on when we would return the car. We decided to squeeze in kayaking on our last day and were a few hours late returning the car. We called ahead of time and left a message and they replied back, saying not to worry about it. The girl (crying because I can't remember her name either) that took us back to the hotel was amazing too, and we had a nice chat about our trip and her life. I feel like Lucky Owl became a part of my Hawaii experience, really. It was great. I'll probably rent from there again, and I'd recommend it to anyone! read more

This privately owned car rental place is amazing!!! We came to Hawaii for a niece's wedding and rented out 2 large SUVs to fit 12 people and luggage. We were picked up (for free) from Waikiki by a super nice lady named Rosie. On the way to the rental place she told us a lot of intetesting history about Honolulu and Hawaiian islands, she also advised all the placed we needed to visit before we go back home. When we came to the office, we were surprised how attentive and nice the personnel of Lucky Owl Rental was. The service of the agents was outstanding, these guys knew what they were doing and obviously they love their job. The process of check out was super fast and easy. We were out of the office in literally 5 mins with all the instructions where to go and what to see on the island. Mechanic checked our pressure tire and were on the road! We rented out Honda Pilot and Toyota Highlander for 10 days, so I can assure everyone the cars were very well maintained, they drove very smoothly and were fairly low on gas. Neitheless to say we felt safe leaving those cars on the open parking without worring someone could break in the car. We blended in with locals! I would highly reccomend to rent with Lucky Owl! read more

Thank you so much Max and your friendly team. I'd say that you looked after us above and beyond what any other car rental company would even contemplate doing! Being from New Zealand, these things can be very strange, but you were extremely accommodating...even when one of our people locked the keys in the van when we were at Waikele Outlets! You came, out of your way, and let us into the van. On our last night in Oahu, after I had a little meltdown trying to get the vehicles back to the depot, you were extremely understanding and got someone to come and get us from the airport and take the cars to a place two minutes down the road. I think if it wasn't for this, we would have missed our flight home. I am extremely grateful, the whole process was easy to work through, right from you coming to our hotel and going through the process, to dropping off the cars (even if we were in a rush). The car/van that we had were in a used condition but did the job and were easy to drive. These people are helpful, friendly and professional. I can't thank them enough for looking after our car rental needs while we were there, and I would definitely use their services again. read more

I love Lucky Owl to the max. On Valentine's Day so crazy and almost everyone was booked till I remembered seeing an ad on IG about lucky owl. So I google and gave them a call that same day made reservations. It was so convenient and very professionally managed. Front desk lady was so fast and I got what I needed the same day and was perfect. The best part I didn't have to show anything like proof of residence or income. I just showed my license,CC n my own car insurance on my phone app with a $200 deposit with it fully refundable as soon as the rental gets turned in which it was fully refunded back to me. Like who does it like that ??? All the other rental companies give so much trouble for all kind of crap when it should be more like how lucky owl does it. I wish I known about them long time wasted all my money renting from Enterprise. What a damn shame. The most beautiful thing of lucky owl it was AFFORDABLE TO RENT AND WORTH EVER PENNY of MINES. My daughter needed to rent a car in honolulu. When I called them I thought I would get all these insane extra charges because she doesnt have a credit card and she was under 25...All the other companies I called would tack on $20-$40 PER DAY for that! not to mention their deposit was twice as much.....with Lucky Owl she just showed them proof of insurance and that was it...no extra charges or anything. she rented their cheapest deal, toyota corolla "island compact". These guys were waiting for my daughter when she walked out of the airport.....the car was used but it was super clean and everything worked. She saved tons of money on gas.....the deal they gave us was super cheap I was really impressed....Their service was great and professional. Im surprised companies like this still exist. They run an honest business and provide a great service. I recommend Lucky Owl to anyone that wants to save a lot of money, be picked up and dropped off for free, AND support the smaller companies. Two couples in our group used Lucky Owl this past week and we both loved it. We actually used them twice, renting a car for a day the week before, then headed to a different island. We got an old Honda CRV w/ 75k miles, they got a Minivan with quite a few more miles than that. Both worked great, lotsa scratches and what not... but great local looking cars! Pick up and drop off at the airport was awesome, especially with a kiddo and all the stuff associated with that. I see an unhappy review here about having to wait a few minutes at the airport.... I mean...? You can just call them before you get your bags?! That'll speed things up. They pick you up 100' from where you get your bag. Really cant beat that. If you want a Mustang or a Jeep Wrangler... look elsewhere. If you don't want to ride the rental car bus, want an easy transaction, and a car that works and blends in on the island...these guys are great. Really great. We'll use them again for sure. read more

My friend and I live in CA and have made hawaii an annual trip and every year if we decide to get a rental car we go with Lucky Owl Car rental Hands down. Since we started renting from them 5 years ago the company has only grown and fine tuned their services. Now they even offer car sales for picks who are looking to get a car ( side note). Not only are we satisfied with the car that we get and the service that is provided but they also offer shuttle transportation from the airport to their offices and back to the airport ( save yourself a bit of Uber cost there.) the entire process is seamless from beginning to end they make everything very simple they're very professional they walk you through the entire process check the cars out with you very transparent very upfront and straightforward. Lucky Owl Car Rental has been AMAZING to work with. It started by renting a car from them when I went to visit my daughter in Honolulu. Their price was right and they were so easy to work with! Always kind and helpful no matter what. Then we ended up buying one of their used cars for our daughter. a week into her having the car it started to have an issue-it wouldn't start all the time. So she called Dee, who we had been working with, and he told her to bring it in so they could look at it. When she did, he noticed that there could be something wrong with one of the terminals, told her to give it through the weekend to see how it did. Well it still had the same issue, so he told her to bring it back and they would fix it and they did! I live on Lanai and the rental place is really close to the mokulele terminal. The shuttle came really fast and efficient. Car rental place was a little seedy but it didn't matter cause the car was great and so was the process in renting. The rental agent woman was very friendly and helpful even when we called prior to arriving. Prices are way lower than the other companies and would definitely rent here over a chain car rental company. They do require you to bring your own personal insurance bit I would rather do that then pay extra or sign up for coverage that I don't need. They said they would put a $200 hold on my cc but I never saw the charge and felt trusted by them. Book your reservations early because I heard they've become very busy...but what do you expect when your service is great. We had family fly in from the mainland, and Ive been hearing about Lucky Owl for the past 4 years from neighbors and all the other positive reviews. They picked everyone up from the airport, took them to their shop 6 minutes away, were super fast with the paperwork and were super professional and genuinely friendly! When we came to drop the car off, we got our deposit back and they gave them a ride back to the airport. Our 2007 Toyota corolla was clean, in great shape, had cold AC and everything worked perfectly. They were a much better deal than any other rental Ive seen, and everything Ive heard about them is true. This place is awesome. I am grateful that a business like this exists, that actually provides the service that they offer, and do it so well. Lilo from Lucky Owl Car Rental picked us up promptly as soon as we arrived and was very friendly welcoming us to Hawaii. Our 2011 Nissan Juke was in excellent ,like new condition waiting for us with a full tank of gas and within less than 10 minutes after a brief inspection we were able to be on our way to Waikiki. Several days later in the evening after we'd gone shopping I guess I failed to shut the back door properly causing a drain on the battery so the next afternoon the battery was dead. I called Lucky Owl about the problem and to our pleasant surprise Dee showed up within less than 1 hour with a brand new battery so we could continue our sight seeing plans for the day. A week later when it was time to catch our departing flight early in the morning dropping off the car was easy and quick. What a lifesaver! I live in Waikiki and generally don't need a car but have some family visiting so I needed something to get us around. Been in saving mode since Covid and didnt have oodles to spend, so I feel super lucky that Lucky Owl hooked me up with a GREAT deal for a monthly rental on this CRV. Feels so good cruising in this baby- it runs smooth, has ice cold AC, clean interiors, and best of all? It being a slightly older model means I never have to worry about being a target for theft or vandalism. Also the plastic/rubber mat in the trunk is perfect, a breeze to wipe down compared to carpet. To top it off these guys are super easy to work with! Andre picked me up from Matson and was accommodating when I had to change the pickup time. Extending my rental was also super quick and easy. We just got back from a month on Oahu. We had booked a vehicle with Lucky Owl Car Rental, however, we were a bit skeptical. We had never heard of it & I tend to be a negative, sky is falling person. That worry was all for nothing, Lucky Owl Car Rentals was awesome. The price for our van was amazing. They met us at the airport with our van. When we flew to Maui for 4 days, Max came to the airport, picked up the van & stored it while we were there, then picked us up once again at the airport. No charge. Lucky Owl and staff provided excellent service from start to finish! The quote was so much better than I expected and the car was an older, but well kept Honda Fit, with local surfer stickers on it to blend in with the rest of the Kamaiina. Pick up from the airport was seemless and the rental process was super smooth. A special thanks to Anastasia who greeted us and Valentina who checked us out and dropped us back to the Airport. Forever my go-to car rental spot on Oahu. They had a glitch and couldn't get to the airport to pick us up, so paid for our taxi ride to their site. Their cars are a bit older, occasionally a bit dinged up, but thoroughly reliable; we drove it the length and breadth of the island just about ever day for all ten days of our vacation without a hitch. Here's the important part--for a ten-day rental compared against all the "big boys" with the high-price name recognition, Lucky Owl saved us roughly $500 on the next lowest estimate. When we brought the car back, Anastasia just jumped into the driver's seat and drove us right to the airport, which kept us from having to unload and reload our bags.
