I've liked Akane Sushi since it had a location along Highway 7. Always fresh, with lots of cold and hot dish options. We tend to visit during less busy hours, so not sure what it's like when it's busy, but we've enjoyed the company of the ever-attentive and friendly staff. This location is spacious and well-lit. The sushi boats here are an artful combination of sushi, sashimi, and rolls. The freshness justifies the slightly steeper prices. After all, with raw fish, there's always different price points in pursuit of quality.

Came by for lunch as we didn't want food court stuff. Service was good as well as it seems to be family fun and operated. A little boy came by to say hi multiple times. It's a standard sushi place atmosphere so don't expect anything crazy but decent enough. We were comfortably seated in a booth style section. Would recommend giving their lunch specials a try 18-20$.

Akane recently opened. We came here after 10pm for dinner, it served us a special izakaya menu for late night. We chose from menu of skewers, sashimi, udon, bar apps and drinks. There are lots of parking in this plaza being nearby Centerpoint Mall. The music was pumping. It was decently busy with people in all of their booth seating. We had some pork skewers, kalbi, veggie udon, and karaage. While it was good, the veggie udon at $15 isn't remarkable, so I probably would skip that next time. I enjoyed the skewers and karaage the most here. The karaage reminded me of a shrimp-cracker kind of coating. The service is attentive, but they misheard our order and gave us two udon instead of the one we ordered (loud music), but we didn't bother correcting it since they brought it out. They also missed our leek skewer. It was fine since we were already full with the extra udon (we couldn't finish). Hopefully, they didn't charge us for the leek skewer - remember to check your bill!

Bulgogi bento box. Too salty for my taste

My new favourite sushi spot currently belongs to Akane Sushi and here's why. Sushi & Sashimi Love Boat - 5/5 I got the Love Boat B which included 24 sashimi, 18 sushi, and 20 rolls. This is good to serve 3 - 4 people and is my recommended meal to order. The sashimi are pretty fresh and they give you a nice mix of sashimi from the standard salmon, tuna, snapper to more unique ones like bluefin tuna (toro), yellow tail (hamachi), and herring roe (kazunoko). The rolls also didn't disappoint as the rice is cooked to my liking and the sauce they put on the rolls were just the right amount. I ordered this 3 times now and each time met my standard. For $89, this is worth it. FYI: Their bento combo I would give it a 3.5/5. The bulgogi was quite salty which made it harder to enjoy. Service - 5/5 The people that work there are super nice and very welcoming. They do their best to make sure that you are satisfied with your meal. ALSO, if you go on the right day, they may give out salmon head on the house. I was lucky enough to get one and it was so delicious. The people that work there is what help create a more enjoyable atmosphere to have a meal. Atmosphere - 4/5 The one callout is that the place is quite small so there are limited seating. So make sure you call in advance to reserve, otherwise you may need to wait 30+ minutes. This is located on Yonge just south of Steeles. If you're craving for sushi and in the area, definitely check this out. Also bring some cash with you as there's a 10% discount on your bill.

*** February 2022 Review *** Sushi | Previously Ichiban Sushi | Alternate location | Cash discount | Combos & Platters | LLBO Finally able to dine in! Amazing service and food quality as usual. Their signage still says ICHIBAN at the moment Clean and spacious seating area Ordered my hot pot of sake and Love Boat as usual. Service from Chloe, the cute gentleman server was great. I remember him from the old location. They were very kind. Chef also came to say hi. The Love Boat was fresh and nicely displayed. The hot soup noodle with tempura bits on the house was a nice touch. We also got a grilled salmon head and it was done to perfection. Overall I'll always be a fan and return. ************************************************** *** January 2022 Review *** Sushi | Previously Ichiban Sushi | Alternate location | Cash discount | Combos & Platters | LLBO Due to covid restrictions, this review is based off take out order. Dine in will resume by February 2022. New location at Center Point plaza. Alternate location: 361 Carrville Rd Unit 7A, Richmond Hill, ON L4C 6E4 Signage still says ICHIBAN SUSHI at the moment, will be updated by February I've been a fan of Akane for years and have visited all their locations. The owner is absolutely lovely and welcoming. The service is always great. The food quality never fails. Love Boat - Small $52: It has a variety of sashimi, sushi and nigiri. My take out order came with miso soup and salad. Uni has been. Out of season for a while but I got to have it in this platter. There are also fried taro chips in the platter too. The fishes were fresh and delicious. Overall I can't wait to have the dine in experience again at Akane.

not sure why we got this on the house. Maybe a Xmas bonus? Salmon Head

Stuffed with crab salad, spicy tuna, and shrimp tempura it's a surprisingly hearty and creates enough flavours that it didn't taste too healthy. Pair the maki with an avocado salad ($9) and miso soup ($3) and you've got yourself a complete meal. I'm glad Issmi doesn't skimp on the avocado, there's plenty of it fanned across the simple green salad tossed with Issmi's sesame and soy house dressing. And while the miso soup wasn't overly exciting, it's also not an expensive add on, arriving nice and hot. There are also several sushi dishes that don't break the bank. The Matsu sushi ($25) contains a well stuffed dynamite roll that rival most in the neighbourhood and 10 pieces of nigiri. The nigiri was where Issmi falters a bit: the rice not seasoned enough and some of the fish felt a touch dry. Still, these are just slight nuances that could easily be overlooked.

This is a review for delivery:…read more Even then, I cautiously ordered the maki set B ($14.95) where the uncooked ingredient was limited to the salmon in the spicy salmon roll. In hindsight, there was so much tempura bits incorporated into the roll - on top and mixed with the salmon - that I had little to worry about with the raw fish. Tempura bits are such an oily condiment that can ruin the maki; after wiping off the bits on top, the roll tasted better. The dynamite roll was delicious incorporating a warm tempura shrimp, julienned cucumbers for crunch, avocado, and surimi. Given the rice wasn't too thick, all the ingredients really shone through creating a flavourful bite and the maki is large (10 pieces instead of the typical eight). Compared to everything else, this was the tastiest bite of the evening. Kibo's maki sets also arrive with soup and salad, fairly standard versions of the sides. Instead of diving into the soup, I should have taken the time to reheat it as lukewarm and grainy miso isn't the tastiest thing. At least the soup was flavourful and bits of fried dough were added in lieu of tofu - you won't get away from fried carbs at Kibo Sushi House! I was expecting the ebi siu mai ($6.95) to be a har gow shrimp filling in a siu mai wonton wrapper. Instead, the wrapper was filled with shrimp paste incorporating a lot of flour, so you're met with a mushy bite. I even pan fried them the next day to give it a crust and only marginally improved the starter.

Food 5/5 Service 5/5…read moreAmbiance 4/5 Food: We had lunch here. I ordered the cowboy roll, red dragon roll, sashimi appetizer & a palgong tea to go (lychee ade). Hubby ordered the fish & karage. We shared the cowboy roll. Cowboy roll is one of my fave rolls at this restaurant. It was delicious as usual & the red dragon was great as well. I tried a piece of hubby's fish katsu & it was also wonderful. The batter was light & it didn't seem oily at all (one of my pet peeves for deep fried food). I even tried a piece of the chicken karage but I didn't enjoy it. Hubby said it was really good though. Service: We had the same waitress we've had to many times before. I can't remember her name. But she's always really nice & gets our orders in quickly. So the food comes with a good pace as well. The quality is always great in my opinion. Ambiance: The place needs a little of a spruce up on the lower level. The ladies washroom is looking a little worn out. Everything is clean though. The look of the restaurant is dark woods & dark upholstery. All of the tables are booths which I like. It makes a nice cozy atmosphere. We continue to come back because we love this place & it's consistently great!

We came on a Friday afternoon after 4pm and we were the only customers in the restaurant. The place is tiny but clean and nicely decorated. We got seated very quickly. This restaurant seems to be a family owned business. Although they weren't anybody else, it seems that their takeout business is a big part of their sales as they were quite busy with orders. That made us feel a little better about our decision about dining here. We decided to go with their 32pc Sushi Boat along with a Tempura Udon which came fairly quickly. The Udon came first and unfortunately, it was quite bland. The broth was lacking flavour. The sushi was simply average. The ratio of fish to rice was skewered towards the rice. The fish was okay. Prices were on the high side. Service was really good but then again we were the only customers in the restaurant. Not likely to come back... #43 of 2018
