It's a cute little restaurant on the Danforth, in the east end. The decor gives the space a cozy feel. The food is decent. I ordered many Galbi and Tempura Bento Boxes. The Beef Bulgogi was good, as was the calamari. I loved that the portion of rice was so small. I need to eat fewer carbs. It was like they knew that. Hahaha. The service was good. This little sushi shop is conveniently located outside of Woodbine station. This cozy sushi restaurant has a variety of items on the menu and friendly staff. I had a chance to try the tofu teriyaki lunch bento. I really enjoyed this dish because it had small portions of many different items. It included tofu, rice, salad, spring roll, yam tempura and maki rolls. This dish also included miso soup. All this for a very reasonable price. If you are ever in the area and are craving sushi. Walked past this restaurant today and it looked appealing from the outside. It had a nice outdoor patio area so my friend and I decided to stop here for lunch and eat outdoors. We weren't disappointed. Service was great and we were attended to promptly and checked on consistently. I ordered the salmon teriyaki bento box and there were a few things that I noticed. First of all, portions were a bit larger than other places I've been to. The salmon was larger and so were the California rolls. Secondly, there were a few extras like the spring roll, and the vegetables included a good mix of asparagus, broccoli and cabbage. My friend and I both agreed that this was a great place to dine in. We totally love this place. Really great sushi and tempura. The staff are so nice. For us it's within walking distance so we order and go pick it up. They take real care and how they package their food, so by the time we get the tempura home it's still nice and crunchy and hasn't gone rubbery. This is something that often happens with tempera during takeout but for these guys they sure got it right. We often get their luncheon specials or a Bento box, but they always give greats amounts of fish with the sushi pieces and there is always wonderful miso soup and salad with the bento boxes. Do you check them out it's one of our favorite places to go for sushi and tempura in our hood. Parking is on the street. They are available on Skip and Uber eats. read more

I made a takeout order (ordered in advance). I got 2 100pcs tray, sushi, sashimi, and maki tolls. Quality was good, everyone enjoyed it and it was a good portion for 12 people. I would highly recommend Gyoko for takeout sushi, especially if it's for a large group! I've never seen a sushi tray for $1 a piece. I was a bit disappointed at the seaweed salad.. it was $7 for the container, and there wasn't much in it. Tip: be really careful with the soy sauce they provide. We were in the area with a strong sushi craving and stumbled upon this place. It had a quaint, low key, and slightly romantic vibe when we first walked in. When we first had a seat our server greeted us. Warm, humble, kind and friendly service took us through our whole meal. I am big on service and can definitely say I was impressed by it. We ordered a few apps and sushi along with chicken katsu. Pleasantly surprised to receive complimentary edamame to start. Food was fresh, delicious and presented very well. Also was impressed by the speed of our order arriving as it was semi busy (around 8:30pm on a Saturday evening). I would definitely recommend this place not just for food but service and ambiance. Excellent! I've finally found my go-to sushi place in the East end. I had the sashimi lunch and was truly impressed: fresh, melt-in-your-mouth fish; beautiful presentation but maintaining essential simplicity; the ginger had a proper kick to it; a bit of edamame served with the soup and salad was a nice surprise. I had green tea ice cream for dessert -- a very generous portion, not over-sweet, and with a strong matcha taste that I love. For all that, the price was very reasonable. The service was attentive and friendly, never overwhelming or overly rushed. The decor felt homey and modern, and the music was pleasant -- traditional instruments, I think; none of that mindless pop that can ruin a good meal. There were lots of non-sushi options on the menu, and lots of clearly marked vegetarian dishes small and large for our herbivorous friends. The extended lunch hours 11:30 to 3pm make it easier to stop by. It was nice to see this new place already quite busy around 1pm. I will certainly be back! read more

We just moved into the area. After a long day of moving we were really hungry. We decided to walk around decided to stop at Gyoko. First we went into the washroom to wash our hands and it was very clean. Then we looked at the menu and was quite impressed with the selection. We ordered (red dragon roll, spicy salmon, maki set C, woodbine roll & gyoza soup). The server included edemami complimentary. The miso soup was delicious. Food was awesome too. (Check the pictures). There isn't much that makes Gyoko stand out in the crowd of a la carte sushi joints. Service was prompt and friendly and the atmosphere was great. The décor was also very pretty (the window seat is the best in the house). My date and I ordered a sushi boat and it was pretty standard, good quality sushi (What more can you ask for, I suppose?) Besides sushi, they also offer other japanese staples such as Katsu and Udon. If you're looking for good sushi in Danforth, Gyoko is definitely worth a visit. read more

Loved the attention to flavours in their sushi. The spicy tuna had a unique taste next to the spicy salmon. Some may find this a drawback as it can overpower the taste of the fish. The tempura was amazing - still crispy after delivery. Great portion size for the teriyaki salmon. Overall, really great food! The only dislike was the inari. The addition of spring onion and beansprouts didn't go well with the sweetness of the jacket. Will order again. read more

This place is hit & miss for me. My parther & couple of friends like it. Unfortunately this is the few sushi places I order from that does not settle well most of the time when I order it. The sushi tends to look good. They put effort into this, however when I have the sashimi it usually isn't fresh & I question the quality, it seems the sauces & rice can cover up some of these quality issues; I am not sure I can give it another try. If anyone else orders sashimi from here I'd be happy to hear from you. Yesterday two of us ordered sashimi & sushi and we had tummy pains after. The Aburi sushi with white tuna was questionable on quality. I'm happy to hear from anyone else who has enjoyed this. This item was alright; the rice pieces broke whenever you tried to pick it up. The sashimi appetizer was not very fresh. The food smelled fishy when I opened the bag, which may have set my past concerns on alert. I really want to support this local establishment and hope this is a one off (even if it's been not so great in a coupe other occasions). I asked if the scallops were fresh before ordering it; they said yes, & it was quite good. Are we supposed to ask if the fish is fresh before ordering any item? I would like to hear from other who have ordered sashimi. read more

Our regular neighbourhood sushi place was closed for Family Day, so we decided to try Gyoko based on recommendations from the ETYMV Facebook group. We ordered a party tray, a few miso soups, and veggie gyoza just to see how they compare to other places. We began with the miso soup, which tasted very weak and watery but on the positive side, did have tofu and seaweed in it. (No one finished theirs--that's telling! We like a strong miso that moves like a swirling cloud when you set it down and look under the surface.) So, we moved onto the tray. There was no garnish, and some of the rolls were laying flat rather than in a roll, so it looked like they were trying to take up room. The ginger and wasabi were in small styrofoam cups on the tray (not great for environmental reasons). The maki and sushi were meh. They weren't bad but also didn't have a lot of flavour. I think it was the rice. It was big and soft, not fine grained and sticky like sushi rice usually is. (It was more like rice you'd get with Chinese food). All of the sushi were very thin but long so they weren't neat and tidy, they were kind of big and floppy. (It was kind of funny and not like any sushi experience we've had.) Oddly, they included soy sauce in small plastic cups but it also tasted watered down. The gyoza were deep fried and also just meh. Overall, the meal was meh. We wouldn't order from there again, especially with so many other great options nearby. read more

Just ordered a sushi and maki tray today and was very pleased. The fish was fresh and the rice was perfect. It took a long time to prepare, but the quality showed. It didn't have that "the rice has been sitting around all day" quality you find in a joint where a party tray is ready in 15 minutes. The price was more than fair for the amount of sushi we received. I took my daughter here for lunch and was pleasantly surprised by not only the lovely ambiance, but the food and friendly staff. I think finding a good spicy tuna roll can be tough, and I was pretty impressed by Gyoko's. I would definitely order this again. There was one thing that needed improvement and that was the sweet potato tempura. It was underdone but I find that a lot of sushi places have underdone sweet potato. Someday someone will figure out how to thoroughly cook a sweet potato, right? Another thing I have to mention was the exceptional service. Not only did we receive complimentary edamame for my daughter, but the staff kept asking me if I wanted more miso soup or rice for her. We will be returning to Gyoko! read more
