Came here for a lunch date with my BF, as this is our fave sushi place near us! They serve their lunch special till 3pm! We came at 2:30pm and they were very busy! Usually we come earlier. It's been awhile since we've been here. We love the bento lunches here! We got Shrimp and mixed tempura bento and the Chicken katsu bento as I remembered how tender and meaty the chicken was here! The tempura was delicious! The shrimp tempura was massive! However the chicken tempura tasted nothing like it used to. Paper thin, all we tasted was the crispy coating zero meat taste, they also forgot the katsu sauce which I think they mix in house. We told the server and he apologized brought us the sauce and we explained the katsu was way overcooked and barely edible. He said he will take it off the bill. When the bill came he apologized again as I showed him this definitely didn't look like what it used to. He was super apologetic and said sorry the kitchen was so busy today. It was kind they took care of it so gave them 3 star instead of 2. But it was nonetheless a disappointing lunch. But they were super nice about it. Might go back to try something else. read more

Unome has been around for more than 5 years and can now be considered a area/neighbourhood favourite. This is a family owned business and the menu has all the standard favourites you would find in a sushi restaurant with some Korean items mixed in. I would recommend the fire chicken. On this visit we got the small boat and a popcorn chicken appetizer. The portion of chicken for an appetizer was generous and despite being listed as popcorn chicken on the menu some pieces were quite big. Quality of fish is excellent on the boat. Pieces are decent sized and fresh and there was a good mix. No surimi or egg. Service is what stands out. It has always been good and has not changed over the years. read more

Our family has been meaning to visit this spot for quite some time now, but with their operational hours, we found it difficult as on many occasions, we wanted to come by but they weren't open. Finally, we managed to come by on a Sunday around 7 pm. There was a good number of customers with the dining room filling up more and more as the night went on. They were never at full capacity though, so no waits for tables. When we arrived, we notified them that we were a table of four and got directed to sit in a corner booth area. We really liked his spot as it felt private yet still in a good spot to be seen when we needed to wave someone down for service. The employees were very friendly and we were always served with a smile, alongside responsiveness and politeness. Once seated, we were offered tea or water, as well as menus. With our order, we were served complimentary miso soup and salad. We opted for their medium sushi and roll platter which was beautifully plated on a wooden boat. The pieces were average-sized, fresh, and beautiful for the eyes as well as tasty for the tongue. The ratios of rice to fish/other toppings were good. I especially enjoyed the unagi sushi which was very flavorful, as well as the spicy salmon maki which had a nice kick and crunch to them! They were not stingy with the ginger or wasabi, but the wasabi was lacking on flavor - it really didn't taste like anything regardless of the amount you add. The other dish we ordered was their Philadelphia rolls which were also well made with a good amount of salmon and cream cheese. The decor is minimal but appropriately themed with little ceramic details and even a (fake) cherry blossom tree. Overall, the place was clean. Their washrooms were also okay and decently spacious which was good. The staff really made sure to greet us on the way out which was really nice. read more

This is a hidden gem for Japanese sushi on Bathurst. It's casual vibe and can get very busy, so during weekends, better to call ahead to reserve. The service is fast and friendly, not the best but above average. We ordered: Salmon and mango tower: 4/5, 1 point for the hard rice bottom, otherwise it's a 5star! Excellent sushi spot in Richmond Hill. Always busy this local gem is making a lot of people happy. Service is very good. Pricing is fair with average pricing $20-30 pp Everything is fresh and tasty. Their platter was ok, edible, we decided to give it a try because of the overwhelming positive reviews on google. Their "love boat" platter was not very fresh, their rolls were decent, I would eat that again. Salmon was kind of fishy, for the cost, I'm surprised they had a lot of butter fish as displayed in the picture. Their surf clam, usually our favourite was a little shrivelled up. I wouldn't go back personally as I have had a lot better quality at a lot of other places. I wouldn't recommend either at this point. Gave it 2 stars because the rolls were decent. read more

I called in to place my order for pickup and arrived 5 minutes earlier than what I told them. At the time, I was the only one in the restaurant. They were just finishing up my order and I was out shortly after. Seriously the spicy mayo is so good. We've loved this place and have been regulars for years, but something seemed different after their reopening last week. The place was temporarily closed for quite some time, and we rushed to visit as soon as we heard it had reopened. We went for lunch last Saturday, but it wasn't as great as before - the fish didn't taste as fresh. Trying to find a decent Japanese place in Vaughan can be like finding a needle in the haystack (If you want to get technical Unome is on the east side of Bathurst which makes it a part of Richmond Hill, but close enough). I'm super happy to find a good Japanese option close to home. Let me preface by saying that if you are looking for an 'authentic' authentic Japanese operated restaurant, you will be sorely disappointed. But if all you are looking for is quality food, Unome will be an above average option for you in the area. The dining area has a simple but yet classy ambiance and food made fresh and from quality ingredients. We were there at lunch time and ordered the sashimi and California roll lunch combo and the teriyaki chicken bento. The chicken bento was surprisingly enjoyable. For those who are health conscious, they do use chicken breast for their teriyaki. I know I know... the purists will scoff at that... you mean they don't use chicken thigh? It doesn't have a crunchy layer of skin on it? All I can tell you is the chicken is tender, the marination was flavourful, there was no over excessive grill marks and the teriyaki sauce was on point... not overly sweet and not too starchy. The sashimi were fresh. Salmon were fatty and tasty, the way it should, the white tuna was just right with a slight coolness to it and not like a lot of places where it's disgustingly warm or frozen like a popsicle. The snapper had the usual delicate taste to it minus the unpleasant grassy taste that's evident a lot of times at a lot of Japanese restaurants. California roll is California roll, however, I'd prefer that the cucumber aren't chopped up so much to allow for a more natural crunchy texture. By the end of the meal, the server was nice enough to offer me and my kids some complimentary ice cream. However, the ice cream was pretty bad, arguably worst than all you can eat quality. The red bean tasted like pop corn and the green tea was weak in green tea flavour. I'd suggest they look for alternative suppliers. The overall grade for Unome in actuality is a solid 3.5 starts out of five. WIth some minor tweaks, Unome has a chance to be a staple in the neighbourhood for years to come. read more

The foods and services of this place are amazing. It's a cozy place, very kids friendly and great for dates because they have private small rooms. The owner of this restaurant is very kind and generous. The first time my bf and I went there, they gave us free hand rolls which were delicious. The second time was a pickup. I wanted 4 pieces each of salmon and butterfish sashimi. She told me that an order comes with 3 pieces. So I offer to pay more money for those extra pieces. When I came to pickup, she showed me that they gave 5 pieces each and didn't charge extra. I was touched by her kindness - Very nice people! It's a convenient location with plenty of spaces for parking. I'd definitely recommend this place to any sushi lovers. read more

This restaurant is newly opened in the corner of Bathurst and Rutherford. The sashimi quality was decent however the cutting are not as good as each piece is a bit too thick. The chicken katsu donburi was ok. I would say it's above average. Overall, I honestly think it's still quite pricy even though the food quality is a bit above average I don't think I will come back and visit this place again unless they can lower the price by 20 percent. read more

Really great service. The love boat (small) and lobster deluxe roll was yummy and fresh. Sometimes it gets busy so the waitress might not be able to see you if you are in the booth, but she does come around to check on the tables too. It would be nice if they gave each table individual teapots so it is less work for the waitress and customers probably won't mind pouring their own tea out of convenience. I just felt a little bad because the lady serving us was so kind but also so busy! read more

Picked up some sushi here for takeout They are quite pricey (more than other sushi spots in the area) and I don't think they warrant that (I ordered just maki so I'm referring to that - not sure about lunch specials or other offerings) The rolls are pretty small and they actually messed up my order (I didn't call to complain as I was already far from the restaurant - I ordered a roll that should've had more on it and it was missing avocado and the roe) I don't know how long they'll really stay open - especially when aroowha, which is 1 block away is much better read more

It was not good from the moment the miso soup was inedible. The fish did not taste fresh and we had to send everything back. They also tried to explain to me that is was raw fish which is very irritating as I have had sushi a million and one times. Our favourite new sushi place!!! The food and ambiance were fantastic, which already put this restaurant above most others - but what really made this place outstanding was the amazing customer service and attention to detail. We came with our 2 young kids, and the chef personally made teeny tiny little miniature sushi's for them (the baby's sushi were made of only a few grains of rice!), on the house! It was so endearing and so sweet of them to do. Also, their food presentation really stood out. We ordered a mango ice cream, expecting a little scoop in a little bowl, as is typical for Sushi places, but instead we got this beautiful sundae in a giant martini glass (see photo). Had a lovely dinner at Unome sushi, my first time trying this place. I must say that the greeting you receive when you enter the resteraunt is so warm and kind, definitely appreciated. The resteraunt layout is nice and has private booths that you can sit it, which is a unique and fun touch! The food was great! The Kanisu salad was tasty and all the rolls we had tasted fresh and delicious! We had several rolls including the Philadelphia, Kamekaze and some other rolls. We also had their shrimp tempura which was delicious and perfectly crispy! The service was great! The waitress was very kind and positive, always had a smile on her face! They consistently topped our waters without us having to ask, and checked on us just enough times without it getting bothersome! At the end of the means the waitress brought over a complimentary sample ( pieces) of some special roll that the chef made for us to sample. I thought this was a nice touch!
