I use different doctors and facilities at Akron/Cleveland and I love it! I required them for my illness. Best care I've ever received during the last 2 & 1/2 years. A loved one said Akron Medical has everything (and more) that you need' Amazingly! They sure do! Thanks a million to all my regular staff and students to the kitchen and housekeeping! You all rock! belittled me, made fun of me, let me fall out or rather off of my toilet portable one while having two (still even now) broken ankles, made comments that i was unsanitary but no one would bathe me, and said they had to cut my casts off because i soiled them with urine, well that is what happens when a person is left with two broken ankles in a bed, a broken right arm, and a hairline fractured tailbone. not to mention my personal property was stolen and nothing is being done about it. read more

Glass building front desk on the first floor employs some of the worst people out there. They make fun of patients who come in who ask questions which is so wrong. It is not professional at all and I expect better from them. Some of us do not have the money they have working here or husbands who work and help support them, if we dress a certain way so be it! Keep your damn noses to yourself and respect everyone. Treat them as you want to be treated! I have lost a great deal of respect for this hospital. read more

Aramark cafeteria: Country eggs were excellent and warm. French toast was decent enough, but that along with the rest was cold. And they had just opened for breakfast. Threw out the McDonalds style hash brown, it tasted like cardboard. Have had better turkey sausage. read more

I had my my son here years ago and had the worst experience of my life, when it should have been the most exciting and enjoyable. Well, just spent the last four days here with my fiancé, and even though it is now part of Cleveland Clinic, I've seen no improvements in the physician care. I've been to many hospitals, had many procedures, and this is the WORST hospital I have ever been to personally, or as a family member. The physicians/doctors lack bedside manner. One doctor, Dr. Wheeler, was completely rude to the staff, very dismissive and condescending, even to me. I have to say, the RN's and support staff were, for the most part, great. I feel sorry for the environment they are subjected to. Some of the physicians are contracted through an outside company, Sound Physicians. read more

I have mixed feelings about this place so I must be fair. I came in because if shortness of breath, the doctors are amazing at what they do and they genuinely care for the well being of their patients. However, what I'm not happy with is the process. I checked in at 11am on Sunday, here it is 10am Monday and I have not had anything to eat. I just received water this morning after asking for it more than 5 times. My daily med that I take has not been ordered and I'm concerned. This seems to be a public facility and the service is just that. I think they have a great staff of people here, it's just coaching and training needed to help them, the crew, understand the meaning of "customer service". I'm hoping to be seen soon so I can be discharged. There is a book I believe the leadership of this center should read, it's called "The Ice cream Maker". It teaches you that quality is the key ingredient in everything that you do. read more

Just had my Appendix removed by Dr Ali. The staff at Akron General has been outstanding. The only issue I have had is getting checked in for my pre-surgery testing. I got checked in but nobody was notified that I was waiting which resulted in a 2 hour wait for a 5 minute blood draw and a few questions about my medical history. Dr Ali did a wonderful job when I was admitted to the hospital the first time, my follow up visit and surgery. He's very friendly and actually listened to my concerns and didn't rush me. He explained everything on my CT scan and made sure I understood what I was looking at. He's got a great bedside manner and I highly recommend him. read more

My dad has lymphoma and has had great care from the doctors and nurses in the cancer wing. He has spent some time in the icu as well and his nurses have been great. However, the people behind the desk in icu are always rude and unhelpful. read more

I was a patient here in October.. My water broke early and i had to be on bed rest until the baby decided to come. I stayed here for a total of 31 days.. The from the doctors, nurses, dietary to the cleaning people; everyone here was on it when it came to caring for me. They made me look at hospitals in a totally different way. Their bed side manner was professional, friendly and compassionate. I could not say more about this place. I would recommend it to anyone.. They practically save my babies life.. If I could I would give them the max of max stars. read more

Since the Cleveland clinic take over service has taken a dive. 4 plus hour emergency room wait for chest pain while people with sore throats go in first. ER split with urgent care so you sit there sick and in pain with kids running around and family reunions eating McDonald's. Then the false billing. Two consultations w a surgeon were billed as treatment room/observation to get paid more. Makes my copay like a surgical copay instead of a specialist copay. A consultation is NOT surgery or a medical procedure. Went to Mercy in canton and was taken seriously. read more

sorry, this will be a long review, and I probably will forget to mention something. first off, I want to thank probably the only good thing about that hospital, the nurse Jen on the 5th floor, she is amazing and in my opinion to good to work for that place! now the reasons why you shouldn't bring your loved ones to this place they call a hospital! 1st -very DIRTY the toilet leaked and we mentioned it to several people never got fixed till the night before discharge.. SAFTEY HAZARD! not to mention the room was never cleaned the 3 1/2 days my grandpa was there. Jen the nurse took out the overflowing laundry. the bathroom was dirty upon arrival. I probably am forgetting something. 2nd- the physical or occupational therapist not sure which one she is because didn't care to get her name.. VERY RUDE!! these were her exact words to my family " PEANUT GALLERY BE QUIET " so guess what the patient my grandpa who is very protective of his family was then very aggravated. how is that going to help him. 3rd- NONE of the Drs are on the same page! it's like they dont even consult one another about the patient. on dr says something and another dr says something different. so if you want answers GOOD LUCK! we never got any. NO COMMUNICATION! 4th- we were told he was going down to get scans and would be back in 30 minutes.. an hour and a half later hes still not back! we are asking everyone we see where he is NO ONE KNEW! like how do you lose a patient! they took him from scans to procedure waiting area for 1-2 hours and didn't think to tell his family!! so when we FINALLY found out where he was we were told he was in the procedure room on the table (which he wasn't) he was still in the waiting area. so hours later we were getting worried because it was supposed to be a simple procedure so we asked the nurse for an update she called down for us and when we were told he was in surgery he wasn't he just got in when we asked for an update NO COMMUNICATION!!!!! Especially to the families who is scared and worried about there loved one! 5th- when he was in the procedure room. he was awake for it. had his dentures in. and SHOES ON! how unsanitary is that!?!?! I'm sure I'm forgetting something! I'm happy to say we got him OUT of that place and are seeking care elsewhere! best thing to do for your loved one TAKE THEM TO A DIFFERENT HOSPITAL!!! read more

I was at Akron general about 2 weeks ago the room I was in was filthy at first the nurses we're polite then they we're very rude. Unconcerned.. My daughter was there because of chest pains numbness on right side etc.. They told her to go home take some tylenol her ekg was fine etc my daughter asked about a certain medication she had been on the Dr told her he wasn't going thru all 13 of her visits to find out anything my daughter stated I have not lived in Ohio long enough to come here 13 times (she's only been here 9 months) the resident proceeded to get the rn who was extremely rude the next thing we new she was being escorted out of the hospital... Had they done their job they would have known that my daughter has a severe heart murmur had they done their job they would have k own my daughter suffered a stroke had they done their job!!! My daughter suffered a stroke leaving their fckin facility she's not at Akron city hospital! Akron general was a very very good hospital until Cleveland clinic took over it was a time u we're not leaving there with chest pains it was a time they cared!! And what got me was going thru a metal detector in the er! REALLY! anyway I'm getting a lawyer (suing Akron general) read more

I visited a friend today at General who just had a baby. I was overwhelmed by how friendly each and every member of the staff that I encountered was! From a doctor in the hallway, a nurse , a receptionist, a cashier at the cafeteria and more they all blew me away! My son was born at this hospital ten years ago and I remember it being a good experience then but WOW! They are doing something awesome and I don't know what it is but you don't see that kind of friendliness anywhere else these days! I never write reviews but these folks need to be congratulated for the culture they have developed. And a special thanks to the cashier who held the door open at the cafeteria after they closed and insisted we where welcome to come in and eat! She also took the time to serve us herself as the other staff members closed up for the night. I think almost every staff member I walked by offered me help or at lest smiled at me. Any company would do well to use this hospital as an example of how customer service is done right! read more

Self-pay patients beware! My first appointment was a consultation and I was billed $250.00...which coincidentally was the amount the procedure was SUPPOSED to be. (I had cosmetic vein treatment.) Following the procedure, I was billed $250.00 for a second time by the hospital, then an additional $100.00 from the doctor's group. I went round and round with the billing department and ultimately paid to protect my credit. My experience with the doctor and staff was excellent, however, the hospital's billing practices will keep me from EVER returning to AGMC. read more

the worst experience ever! some nurses are good but the group doesnt talk to each other. ie icu, emergency, rehab, standard floor. if we did not keep constant vigilance and advocacy i would hate to see what would have happened. i would not recommend akron general to anyone!!!! read more
