I tried the vegetarian bean vermicelli noodles, and I requested that they add some spice to the dish as it does not come spicy. I enjoyed the noodles, they were thin and transparent, and slightly chewier than rice vermicelli. Be warned, these are somewhat slimy in appearance, which might throw some people off who are picky about textures! The flavor was nice, I wouldn't say it was spicy, but they did add a sauce into my dish that wasn't in my dinner partner's order of the same thing. There was a good amount of vegetables, but next time I would request a stir fried egg in the mixture as well for some added flavor and texture to break up the sliminess. While dining, you are near other guests, as the tables are all sat side by side. This may not be the best location to have a first date or a private chat, but sufficient for a casual meal for a good price, and maybe a chat with your table neighbor! The service was traditional for Europe. You need to tell them you are ready and call them over, and then go to the front to cash out. Not a bad stop for the price, especially considering what you pay for food on the Venice islands, you likely come back to the mainland ready to eat!

Overview: Roticceria Gislon is a no-frills spot near the Rialto Bridge, tucked slightly off the main path on the right side of Calle de la Bissa. It's easy to miss but works well if you're looking for a fast, affordable meal. Service is quick, prices are low, and the menu offers a wide range of ready-to-eat dishes. Food: I stopped in for an early lunch and grabbed takeout. The staff was kind and helpful, and the server spoke English, which made ordering easy. I started with battagin (fried fish bites; in this case, cod) and crema fritta Gislon (deep-fried custard). Both were on the greasy side, but given the price, they were fine. The fish was slightly overcooked, though nicely seasoned. The crema fritta was fairly bland: not terrible, just unremarkable. I also tried the bigoli in salsa and spaghetti al ragù. The bigoli sauce was watery and collected at the bottom of the container. The ragù was dry and lacked depth of flavor. Additionally, the pasta was overcooked in both dishes. Overall: Roticceria Gislon is a decent stop if you need a quick, inexpensive bite and aren't too fussy about quality. The service is friendly and efficient, but the food left me underwhelmed.

I shut my mouth and ate and paid and left. Apple Pay sent me an alert saying I spent $52 and change yes in USD. Only then I realized I was scammed. Just so you know, it's illegal to charge USD in Italy. You could only charge customers in euro. So basically I paid the fees for converting euro to USD. That Chinese man scammed. I will make the effort to report this to the Italian authorities and also try my best to fight the additional charge with my credit card company. Shame on you petty thief merchant! Otherwise, Venice is a beautiful city. I was so pissed that I paid a visit to the local police station. They knew exactly what happened and thanked me for reporting this restaurant. They will hear from the authority in a couple of months. Good luck!

Why aren't you eating here? Ambience: Quiet - way too quiet…read moreas I was the only one for some reason. It's a nicely appointed restaurant a little off the beaten path but only a block from the Duomo. Service: Terrific. Okay, so I did have the server to myself, but she was really pleasant and the chef even came out for a chat. They seem like genuinely friendly folks. Food: Amazing. I ordered the duck then had a sudden panic: "Why, oh why did I fall for duck in a honey sauce? It's going to be sickly sweet, or the chef will overcook the duck. Either way you're going to regret this". Oh my god was I wrong. Instead what I got was a lovely roast (perfect medium rare) with a delicate honey-scented gravy and superb roast vegetables. This is seriously good cooking. I also had the snails as an appetizer and they were just right - and not overdone with the garlic as you often get. As a bonus the house wines are excellent and can't be beat for 3-4 euro a glass. Price: On the high side for Padova but a bargain for anyone who lives in the US or Aus. I don't give 5 stars very often but this place is worth every one. My only complaint is that I found out about this gem so late in my stay.

The menu consists of traditional Italian dishes with a modern twist. We ordered more than we could eat, so that we could try as much as possible, and every dish we had was great. Highlights included: Slow-cooked pork belly with cabbage salad: This is one of those dishes that stops you in mid-conversation as you take your first bite and realize how good it is. It looks fairly unassuming. But the pork belly is cooked perfectly, and the dressing is out of this world. I can't remember another time I got so excited about dressing. I asked the hostess / owner what was in it and she said that it's a secret family recipe and that the dish is one of their favorites. Black Beans Soup with Ginger, Prawns, and Sour Cream: I love soup, especially after a long day of walking. The combination of black beans, ginger, and prawns is an unexpected combination of flavors that makes every mouthful one to linger over. DIY Tiramisu: This comes as three separate items, a pot of mascarpone, ladyfingers, and a glass of liqueur. Each is really well done, and it's great to be able to mix and match in your preferred proportions, as well as really fun to do. Entrees were also great, though I am writing this review a few months late and unfortunately can't remember exactly what we had. :( The restaurant is small enough to be intimate, but the tables are well-spaced and comfortable. And the two owners are really nice and friendly. Once we told the hostess that we were from the States, and enjoyed the food so much, she went back to the kitchen to get her husband, who serves as the chef. We spoke to them for a while. They lived in San Francisco before moving back to Padua, hence the mix of modern and Italian cuisines. It's the sort of place you really want to support, and is one of the reasons I decided to finally write a yelp review!

Be aware there are 4 restaurants adjacent to each other, we originally mistook another one for Al Chianti, the waiter said it was this restaurant but it was in fact Al Specchierie - very shady. Unfortunately it was quickly obvious something strange was going on by the disheveled appearance of the second waiter who brought our lukewarm bottled water. Due to our uneasiness we decided to pay for the water and leave. You can imagine our surprise when we discovered the restaurant we were looking for was right next door. I wonder how many other visitors have encountered this deception. We were happy to find an available table, it was fairly early around 7pm. We opted for inside seating versus the patio because of the awkwardness of us leaving the restaurant right next door and the mosquitos that seem to be dominant in Venice in the late evening. Once settled we were ready to order and begin enjoying our meal. The seafood pasta was apparently amazing, along with delicious calamari, pizza and pasta. The waiters were super friendly and during our visit the restaurant filled with, what seemed to be local patrons, some evidence of the quality and hospitality. The meal was finished with cappuccino, the consensus was this restaurant is solid and a good choice based on value, service and food quality.
