Tasty falafal and shawarma place on Cornwall. Parking is available on the side streets to the S of Cornwall. The interior is a bit dumpy, but this is a takeout place after all. Staff are friendly and helpful. I had their lamb shawarma wrap combo. Surprisingly good price, and includes fries and a can of pop. The shawarma was hot and tasty. Have been a few times recently and very good! Get the chicken and lamb plate and it's enough for two people. You can also add more meat for an extra $1 or $2 if you want. Each time I've gone they've carved the meats to order so crispy a bit on the outside, juicy and fresh. Great sauces, especially their toum. Choice of brown or white pita, friendly service but can get busy. Decent pricing and I love their reusable bags. read more

The chicken shawarma I ordered had nicely charred chicken, but not enough vegetables even with the addition of tabbouleh. If you're a meat eater, I'm sure this will satisfy you, but I was craving some fresh vegetables and this didn't do it for me. Somehow, the hot sauce ended up at the bottom and made it a little messy to eat near the end. Since there are better options closer to me, I don't think this will be a regular stop for me. read more

Best Donair Ever. My boyfriend and his friends are obsessed with this place and have been trying to sway me to try and at first I wasn't sure if I should believe the hype. However, they were absolutely right. I got the chicken shawarma wrap and it was soooo delicious and filling. Inside the wrap, had the delicious chicken, tabouleh, hummus and veggie toppings. I requested mine for extra lettuce for the crunch and it was so tasty, the chicken was so tender, juicy and flavourful and paired really well with the hummus. I also like buying the take home containers of their hummus to have with pita chips, so so good. I will definitely return to try one of the rice plates next time! read more

I also tried the dothmathes (6 pieces) for $4.50 came on top of a bit of salad and topped with tzatziki sauce. For dessert I tried the baclava which was also really good. Wow, so good! Conventional donairs but with surprising flavour! The chicken in the shawarma is absolutely vibrant with spices. And the crispies. Yes. Can you say Maillard Browning Reaction? These folks can! The veggie toppings are standard and fresh. Nothing to write home about. But those sauces! Great garlicky, twangy hummus. Zesty tahini. One of my favourite lunch spots. I work nearby, and come here 1-2 times a week for a chicken or beef wrap. It's so hard to find a decent and filling lunch for under $10, and this fits the bill. They give a huge portion of meat, for a hearty meal. Plus the hummus is delicious. I personally haven't had any issues, but my coworker did get a hair in her wrap and has yet to return, and I will say it doesn't feel the most sanity of places, so that could be the only downfall. read more

Meh. Disappointing. Prices are cheap, but we've been too many Middle Eastern places like this with better food. I've never been to a place where I actually didn't like the dolmas. How do you mess dolmas up? In fact, everything was a bit off the mark in terms of taste. We weren't for usual veggie spread (hummus, baba ghanouj etc). I was disappointed that they didn't have the lentil soup available, which was another mark against them. The one item that tasted good was my son's chicken shawarma sandwich. They have genuine shawarma here and it was quite tasty. But the veggie items, not so good. read more

I used to come here all the time. Today I went in and the staff member came from the back, I didn't see him wash his hands, he put one glove on with the ungloved hand he pressed down on the wrapper that touches the food, I was ordering a plate so he grabbed a plate and than shoved the wilted and brown salad into the box with his ungloved hand. When I told him I didn't want to eat the salad that he had touched with his hand he picked out the lettuce shreds with ungloved hand and said he had only touched this part. There was no offer to wash hands, put on another glove or make a new one. When I was leaving he called me a bitch. During COVID I would expect a lot more hygiene standards, but from today I don't feel comfortable eating somewhere like this and where they would call me a bitch for pointing it out. Delicious! The freshly made falafals are wonderful, as well as the fresh tabbouleh and hommus. The prices are very reasonable and the service is quick (as quick as is possible for fresh food). Nice atmosphere with Middle Eastern background music, and nice open windows in the summer. I'll keep coming back to Al Basha. read more

Best Middle Eastern food in town! After doing two peacekeeping missions for the United Nations while I was in the Canadian military, I was infatuated with middle Eastern food. But when I got back home I couldn't find anything that compared. This place is the real deal! Their hummus tastes authentic, their portions are huge, their food is super fresh. It's now wonder they have locations popping up all over town. Probably best of all is that they don't use as much garlic as other places. There was so much I couldn't finish it. So I did what any smart person does...I ate all the meat I could stuff in my stomach lol. I ordered the chicken plate. It was delicious. I never had any problems with the meat. It was tender, moist and flavorful. Trust me, I hate any type of fat or cartilage, so I would warn my fellow yelpers. The sevice was friendly and fast as possible. The owner even took the time to ask us if we enjoyed our experience. We ate in and the decor is very casual. Quite possibly the best Shawarma I've ever had. This place recently took over for our beloved Taco Shack (moved into Vera's), and kept the people coming back to the hood. I love this street so much as it's often overlooked thanks to 4th Ave and Broadway. Cornwall has a great deal of choice and Al Basha brings a flavour like no other. Sandwiched between Flying Wedge Pizza and Panne Rizo, Al Basha definitely holds its out. My only complaint is that that they're not open later. The "sister" location on Broadway is open 24 hours and although I'm not really looking for a Falafel, Donair or Shawarma wrap for breakfast, a late night option on my way home from Corduroy, Charqui or Local would be awesome. read more

Super popular after taking over the space that the Taco place was in. Everyone seems to love Shawarma places in this town, and this part of Kits was sorely lacking one, so these guys should do well. I get the falafel plate, which is pretty solid here. The only downside right now, is they seem a bit overwhelmed right now at the lunch rush. They could probably do more business then, as I've seen people turn away, but they're focusing on keeping the quality high. They'll be okay, it's a great location. read more

Ordered a chicken plate. It was totally devoid of flavour and there were huge globs of fat and cartilage in the chicken. Pretty sure the hummus is just mashed chickpeas without even salt added. At lest that's what it tastes like. My cat ate some of the chicken so at least it wasn't a total loss. read more

I was walking along Cornwall Avenue today, casually looking to see if there was anywhere interesting (and cheap!) to eat before I headed back home. I saw that this place had a falafel wrap for under $6, and there was a line almost coming out the door. I figured this place would be good if so many people were willing to wait in line just to eat. I was not disappointed. I've had a lot of awful falafel in the past, and this falafel was definitely not awful. They don't even fry up the falafel until you order. Fantastic, fresh food. Great find in Kits. Wanting around and just popped in without reading reviews. Now that I see the reviews I would concur. Good food, reasonably priced. Great service. We don't get down here a lot but will definitely look this up the next time we are in the area. If you are in the mood for mid Eastern type food this is definitely worth going to.
