Serendipity brought us to this restaurant. It was noontime and we were escaping the crowds of Piazza San Marco and those heading to the Rialto Bridge. We turned down a quiet side street and found an empty restaurant. The waiter across the way invited us in and we realized that the restaurant was on both sides of the street. We ordered drinks and perused the menu, which was considerable. We decided to share a caprese salad and the seafood risotto for two. While waiting for our food, we chatted with our waiter, who spoke very good English and was quite sociable. Our salad came with beautifully thick slabs of mozarella and gorgeously red tomatoes, preparing our palettes for what was to come. The made-from-scratch risotto was, incredible. The texture of the rice was soft, but still with a chew, and complemented the tender shrimp. Our waiter informed us that the risotto had neither butter or cheese, just olive oil. We did not leave a single grain behind. This was the final day of our vacation and we couldn't have finished on a better note. I only wish this restaurant was closer to home. read more

Our favorite meal in Italy, we tried a lot of the popular local cuisine - the cuttlefish ink pasta is a must try for seafood lovers. We also lucked out with artichoke being in season! We had the Al Conte plate and our minds were blown, absolutely incredible. Our meal was also paired with wonderful local Venetian wine. The atmosphere and service was unparalleled. You could tell that the owner put a lot of love into the cooking and preparation of the food. All of their recommendations elevated the meal to another level. A really hidden gem in the winding alley streets of Venice. The food was so good that we visited twice in our short 4 day stay in the city! It's just a short walk from the main tourist area - and well worth the extra steps! No coperto (sitting or bread fee, which is fairly customary in Italy but still appreciated, especially for those with a gluten allergy!) Fully outshined any other meal we had in Venice. The owner is really kind and very willing to accommodate allergies. Service is polite, friendly, and efficient. The seafood risotto will ruin you for all other risottos LOL. It was cooked perfectly and had a delicious mix of clams, squid, mussels and scallops (sans shrimp for allergies). I think it's the best thing on the menu! We enjoyed a fantastic scallop appetizer, a couple of whole fishes and great wines in our visits there. Also, watching the owner debone a whole fish is pretty impressive too. This was perhaps our worst experience in Venice and one of the worst in our recent trip to Europe. We were recommended fried softshell crab with polenta and those crabs were extremely salty. I have had many fried softshell crabs before and these were way too salty and tasted just bad. It was a bit pricey ($34) for 4 small crabs and we could only eat 3 and left 1 uneaten. The polenta was grilled and got a little too burned on one side and was bitter. I mentioned this to the waiter after we paid for our meal and he laughed at me. The exact words were "hahaha. We have been cooking polenta for 50 years We know how to make it" I mean could it be possible that you burned 1 of them in your whole 50 years of making polenta? Is that so hard to believe that the customer actually received a bad tasting one? He did offer us free dessert and I refused because he was starting to get condescending. Other dishes were also pretty average but I won't go into details. Service was not as attentive as other restaurants we visited in Venice. Overall, we spent about $130euro for two people and I left hungry and pissed. I don't normally tell restaurant when the food is bad but its so bad today I felt I had to say something and they were dismissive about our feedback. Hope you don't make the mistake as we did for going there. There were definitely a few other restaurants in the area that we loved, just not this one. Avoid!!! read more

Looking back at my pics of Italy I had forgotten that Mom and I ate here on our first day in Venice. After a very long flight, we were famished so we checked into our hotel and found this convenient restaurant right around the corner. We both enjoyed a seafood dish with pasta and of course some delicious Italian wine to compliment our meal. Our server was very friendly and did not mind having to speak English with us. In speaking with him, we found out his current girlfriend is from Las Vegas!! WTH??!! Pretty funny! Overall we had a delicious lunch and enjoyed chatting with our server who was very friendly and kind! It was a great welcome to Venice and the beginning of an incredible trip! read more

Our Venice Favorite. We first found Al Conte Pescaor in September 2018. At that time we went three nights in a row. First two for the spaghetti carbonara, and the third night for the John Dory - after all they are a fish house. Last night we had the opportunity to go back after six years. It is still under the same ownership and the carbonara is just as delicious as we remembered. The best carbonara we have ever had - six years ago and today. Tonight we are going back for the John Dory. Don't forget to order the tiramisu. It is homemade and absolutely delicious. Al Conte Pescaor, our favorite over six years. Try it. Came here with a group of friends/coworkers for an after cruise celebratory pow wow... it was recommended to us by chartered water taxi driver. nestled among the twists and turns of the alley's and canals of Venice...we found it quite easily ...with tons of stuff to check out along the way. we had a prix fixed menu...but once i got to course #3...i was over the seafood...so i requested a veg pasta, which was divine! of course that fish course was quite amazing too...so i shared with hubby... the space is small...but the service was fabulous! the food was nice...the wine was flowing...all in all a great evening! read more

How lucky were we to have read about this restaurant and have made a reservation before leaving the USA to come to Venice. This was a real find! Andrea and Alvise were so welcoming, friendly, and accommodating. They made celebrating our wedding anniversary so special! We were impressed with the extensive menu that they offered. They even offered a prix fixe menu for € 23, which we each decided to try. We got to choose an antipasti, primi piatti, secondi piatti, and a contorni (vegetable), while cover and service was included. For our antipasti, we had the sarde (sardines with onions) "In Saor" and prosciutto di Parma. Then, we enjoyed gnocchi al salmone and tagliolini al fruitti di mare. Our next course was a traditional Venetian dish - fegato alla Veneziana (liver and onions) accompanied with mixed, grilled vegetables and a crisp fresh salad. The food was so beautifully prepared and presented. Everything was delicious. Then, Andrea (who was the owner) surprised us with a beautiful cake to finish our meal. We felt the price of € 78 was so reasonable since it included the dinners, water, bottle of wine, coffee, cover and service. During our last vacation and honeymoon, my wife and I visited Venice during a European vacation. Venice is known as a tourist trap when it comes to food... and in general, in Europe, gratuity is included... So in some places, the staff doesn't try hard enough.. and some places, not at all! Overall, food in Italy is pretty inexpensive, and anyone who works in Venice has to commute at least an hour each way to work because rents are so high in Venice or most lower rent apartments have been turned into Airbnb rentals... To cater to tourists... Summers can be hot in Venice and the streets are often crowded, making it difficult to walk. Something to think about when you don't immediately see a smile on a waiter's face. When I look at some of the bad reviews of this restaurant, I can only think that they either came on a day when the staff was overwhelmed, or when they had a bad experience with a previous customer... The work all people do, in the (tourist) service industry. is hard, and tourists can be demanding, harsh and unforgiving at times... We meandered around the narrow streets of Venice and came upon this quaint place. It was pretty empty; the terrace was welcoming on this Friday Summer evening (around 9:30pm). We both ordered the same thing (not fish) and I have to say that both my wife and I were pleasantly surprised to get such a wonderful cut of meat, cooked to perfection. The wait staff was very pleasant at all times. We declined dessert stating that we'd go for gelato to one of the several super tasty gelato places in Venice, and that didn't phase our waiter who smiled and even brought us Limoncello ON THE HOUSE... I think as a whole, some dining experiences just work when everyone is smiling, and not stressed out... We definitely tipped these guys and you can tell it was appreciated. I would definitely go back to this place and I recommend it... at least during similar times (evening) and circumstances (not rush hour)... read more

Absolutely terrible. The fish was not fresh. So bad. Also they say a dish is for minimum 2 people, but they have the price in menu for 1 dish. Most people take it as it's recommended for 2. It is very deceptive and really bad food. There was nothing good about this place at all. I've eaten all over Italy, don't go here. read more

Not only was the food absolutely amazing but the atmosphere was hospitable, intimate, and welcoming. Owner attends to guests himself to assure a wonderful experience and is a joy to have at your dinner table with his lovely personality. Easy to access and English is spoken here. Average food, to be honest boring. But good prices for Venice. Staff not very friendly as well. Went to the restaurant as the concierge of JW Marriott recommended. We have ordered: - Tomato soup (average note. it was ok, but missing spices) - Caprese salad (average note. it was missing olive oil and basil; it was plain sliced tomato and mozzarella) - Seafood risotto (average note; found broken shells in the risotto. They put too much milk and didn't let it soak it. It looked like oatmeal more than risotto) Overall, i have paid around 55 eur and expected more quality for that money, which is very rare in Venice. An enthusiast amateur cook can deliver better looking food and taste. read more

A Culinary Christmas Present Venice. Christmas Day. Hundreds (thousands?) of restaurants but few open in this magical city on Dec. 25th. Luckily my sister's pre-planning found Al Conte Pescaor, who confirmed availability for a 6:30 dinner. This enclave is no more than a 5-minute stroll from our wonderful hotel (Rosa Salva). We were greeted and seated warmly by the owner and his staff, all attired in white dinner jackets. Nice, classy touch. Bread and olive oil served promptly. (Modest cover charge; it's Venice.) Service was attentive without being intrusive. Shared several appetizers with special compliment to the parma ham. Our entrees ranged from seafood risotto to "white" (no sauces) spaghetti. Verdict? Superb. Sis and my wife could not finish a delightful dessert - apple tart with whipped cream. Complimentary glass of limoncello (or your beverage of choice) rounded out a most memorable Christmas dinner. Bread, appetizers, entrees, bottle of white wine, dessert = 170 euros for four people. This Truly a non touristic place. First we are welcomed by very friendly and elegant staff. Although this place doesn't seem "trendy". It s authentic. It's good food and the service is very high level. We tried artichokes also the menu "touristico" priced at a very attractive 22 euros. It's delicious and allow you to try many Venetian diches at perfect quantity. I would definitely go there again. read more

The food was good but not good value. This restaurant was recommended by our hotel so we went with high hopes. We had a reservation which was unnecessary as it was a very quiet Monday night but were greeted less than warmly. A sneeze on a plane may have been more well received. We ordered the small serve 4 course meal - all was fine but too much food. We did this as all meals were quite expensive and all veg/salad were extras. If the staff had been a little more interested in engaging with the customers (all 6 of us) the impression left would have been more upbeat. read more

Had some real bad experiences at some other restaurants and we asked our gondolier for a recommendation - he suggested this one. We kind of ignored it and then accidentally stumbled upon it. In Venice, you have restaurants that beg you to come in, restaurants with great views and prices are way over the top, and you have down to earth ones that you have to seek out. The menu is on the high side but what restaurant isn't? They have indoor and outdoor seating. The food was fantastic. The service perfect. And best of all, they didn't try to upsell me on wine, didn't charge the typical 12% service charge, and based on dishes I saw others get - I'm going back tomorrow (mixed seafood grill - amazing). read more
