    Polenta with sardines and shrimp
    Petrella D.

Had dinner here on a Wednesday night, sat inside (no reservations), cozy environment, friendly staff. Started with polenta/sardines/shrimp (large portion) and sea bass as main meal. Excellent food. House wine was delicious. Reasonable priced. Would definitely return.

We have been going to Venice for many years during Carnival time and have always rented apartments in Castello near Ai Greci. It is a quiet neighborhood and this restaurant is perfect if yyou want home-cooked Venetian cuisine in a casual environment and very affordable prices. Trattoria da Denis is now run by Denis and previously it was run by his uncle named Johnny. I believe they also own a pizzeria a few doors down and we stumbled upon this location when we walked by. There are always diners inside and the Menu del Giorno (Menu of the Day) is the best way to go. You can pick form the Menu del Pesce (fish menu) or the Menu del Carne (meat menu). You select one starter dish and then an entree and the total is only 18 Euros. The Coperto (Cover charge) is 1.50 Euro and this includes bread sticks and warm bread. We ordered the house wine and it was fantastic and then had a grappa to finish off the meal. The staff speaks English, Italian, French and German and were able to take care of our international group. The spaghetti vongole is some of the best I have ever had. The fish of the day and fried calamari are always my favorite entree choices. If you are passing by this area after a day of walking through Venice, stop in for lunch or dinner and you will not be disappointed. It is not super-expensive like many other restaurants and the food is just delicious.

Great little restaurant on our way to San Marcos Plaza. The pizza, charcuterie and octopus were great!

Great little restaurant. Both the pizza and the charcuterie plate were very good. Reasonably priced and good service.

What better way to spend it than wandering around Venice and enjoying dinner at Rossopomodoro? They're still in the "Italy training program" and these menus tend to confuse them, so after three weeks here I felt obligated to guide them toward the promised land. After much studying, debating, and staring at menus, it was finally time to order. I went with the Tagliatelle alla Bolognese, and the wife and I shared a salad. When that salad hit the table, it nearly stole the entire show. We drizzled on a little balsamic vinaigrette, added a shake of salt and pepper, and suddenly we were ready to dance right there in the alley. Fresh tomatoes, fresh mozzarella, crisp greens--every ingredient tasted like it had been picked that morning. It was outstanding. The pasta was very good, but today the salad was the undisputed champion of the meal. Of course, dining outside along Venice's busy walkways only adds to the experience. Watching people pass by while enjoying great food is one of those simple pleasures that makes Venice such a special place. Rossopomodoro delivered a fantastic meal and a great evening. The newcomers survived their first full day in Italy, and I'd say they're off to a pretty good start.
