Sheila helped her sort through what she liked and didn't like, gave her suggestions on paths that would best suither, and this girl is now a superstar at work. If only I had been lucky enough to have that guidance during school! The other was a lawyer who left the practice to get a masters in education. These two examples, plus their rave reviews of her skills, led me to believe that the cost of seeking career counseling from Sheila would be one of the best investments I would ever make- she clearly wasn't prejudiced one way or the other on keeping her clients in practice of law! Having practiced law for quite some time, she's obviously very familiar with the ups and downs Her work centers around attorneys and helping them find the best career path, either within the law or outside of it. She offers more than career counseling- including what I would probably describe as training for the often socially incompetent people who fall into this profession (I know just as many painfully awkward lawyers as I do smooth talkers). But since my experience with her has been with counseling alone, I'll limit my review to that She is incredibly thorough in getting you to open up about what you do and don't like, both about your job and in other areas of your life (talking about your hobbies and interests as well). You work through exercises that essentially give you a chance to describe your ideal work and life. She identifies trends in what you say that you probably don't pick up on, or perhaps actively try to ignore (guilty as charged). She has given me suggestions that I would never have thought up for myself, and insights about myself that I would have tried to not pay attention to if I was not forced to view them up close. (many of which mean I'm a terrible fit for my current position- well not shocking but at least nice to know I'm not imagining it!). The bonus that I would think makes her counseling different from general career counselors is her legal experience- she knows what is out there and has practiced in a few different areas of the law. Now my law school didn't really encourage nontraditional paths- pretty much the only career support you got was the push towards big firms) so her knowledge in this respect is invaluable to me. I wouldn't have the first clue of how to find something different. Perhaps most importantly to me, she provides an objective outside opinion- even if you know deep down that you're on the wrong path and all you need is to hear it confirmed out loud, this can make a big difference. For me, it has been extremely hard to deal with the expectations of the people around me, making it almost impossible to productively bounce ideas off of anyone. It seems like when you're in the position of facing decisions, everyone's got an opinion, and everyone's opinion is different (not to mention based on their own notions of what would be good, not really yours!) I'm still in the middle of my work with her and will have to come back and update this accordingly as I finish up, but for any others in my position, I truly think its worth the time and financial investment

Coach Peggy Wu is amazing, she brings her background as a life coach into her career coaching. When I started with Peggy I was struggling to see myself as a professional. We talked about more than just my job experience and she helped remove some of my mental blocks. Peggy has been such a great source of support in the past few months. I would email her on some of my lowest days and her words always put me back on the right path. I even did two celebrity sessions with Lisa Allie. With Lisa, we went through line-by-line of my resume and she told me what was good and what needed improvement. My resume has never looked better and people are often impressed. Lisa also helped me with LinkedIn and taught me useful tools for how to get the most out of it! on top of all of that, I have completed many helpful modules. The modules are like career-focused therapy. I really feel that everyone at Ama La Vida is focused on you as a human being. Your mental health and well-being will be prioritized. I can not put a value on the experience I got out of this service as I don't know where I would be today without it. I know this post is super cheesy but I wasn't paid to say any of this and have been sincerely blown away by my experience with Ama La Vida. While doing some research, I came across Teresa's business profile on Yelp. After looking it over and seeing what she has to offer to her clients, I immediately knew that I wanted to work with her. I am happy to say that Teresa went above and beyond my expectations of what a great career coach can do for me. Through her career fulfillment program I was able to identify my interests and passions and ultimately, I was able to choose the career path that is right for me. As for the job search portion we were able to have a few sessions where I was able to create a rough draft of a brand new resume. Teresa provided me with a lot of help and feedback with that and now I am pretty confident with the draft that I currently have. I plan to work with Teresa more in the very near future so that I can brush up on my interviewing skills with her. I worked 10 hour days and 5 days a week for a crappy courier company, and while I sped past the upper-classes in their fancy business-casual attire (which at the time I envied), they looked at me like like I was of the lowest caste. I spent my days covered in bicycle grease, dodging taxi cabs, and finding McDonalds that don't lock their bathroom doors. After I realized those 50 hour weeks produced ~$200/week paychecks, I balked. And, one day while "at work" I saw an ad in The Reader that Kelly Services was hiring for data entry. I called and they immediately returned my phone call with a request for an interview. The next day I wore my best business casual outfit to my bike courier job, stopped by for an interview, and was hired on the spot. Over the rest of the summer I became one of the fastest data enterers the city has ever seen. Though I was glad when it was over, it was exactly what I needed at the time. Kelly Services was very easy to work with, and I thought they were very professional. My only complaint is that in between college and my "real job" (not attained through Kelly), I had called them to see if they could get me my old Data Entry position back. They said "Yes, probably", and then never called me again.... Luckily, fate called me a few weeks later.

And I - very fortuitously - happened to come across Hedy. And - six months later - our experience has been terrific. Hedy has a process and framework that she uses to analyze and probe our relationship and past history which has been extremely different from our prior experience that just seemed more of the standard therapy that we had become accustomed to. While I initially had a little trepidation about the 100-minute sessions, I've found that they're helpful to really delve into certain aspects of our relationship and respective histories that help to provide perspective. I'm someone who is typically pretty rigid and analytical, and she's helped me to see our relationship - and in particular my behavior within it - in an entirely different way. And it's been so eye-opening and refreshing to get this other perspective as I absolutely don't think I would've reached this stage on our own. Is my relationship repaired? No, it's only been six months, and we have a lot of healing to do. But Hedy has helped provide a lot of the building blocks for a healthier relationship. And I'm extremely thankful we found her as she's exactly what we needed to take steps forward and address some of the issues that we were having difficulty working through.

Trust me, I had the same thoughts. As someone who just completed their Discovery Package, I can tell you first hand that it is sooooo beneficial. Neha has helped me learn to see things that I've done naturally all my life as strengths that I now capitalize on. And if you don't know what those are, she will literally take you on the wildest self discovery journey to find strengths that are true to you. She has taught me to reframe my thinking, to question my negative thoughts, and to show up from a place that is non judgmental (I can literally hear her telling me, "No judgement!"). You might be looking to make huge changes in your life, but even if you aren't, I still recommend this. I am walking out with a new sense of self, a plan for how I show up in my own life (post weekly, eye opening calls with Neha), a new found confidence in understanding what I value, and tools for when I'm unsure of myself. The great thing about Neha is that she challenges you and guides the way, but she never tells you what to do (and if you're like me, you wanted her to just tell you what you should do!). Instead, she helps you discover your thoughts and feelings on your own along with a plan of action moving forward, which has served me so much more than being told what I should do. The people around us can give us encouragement, advice, and reassurance, but if you're looking to find more of that within yourself, I could not recommend Neha more.
