I traveled to this place during Diwali to get a box of assorted sweets and I can say my travel was worth it. Their sweets are fresh, tastes delicious and are definitely worth the price. This review is for the samosas. I ordered one each of the samosas. They have potato-based samosas (vegetarian), beef and chicken. They were just $1.50 each for the meat samosas and just $1 for the veggie samosa. The price is not bad if you want one but if you're going to buy multiple, it can add up and become a bit too expensive. The size of the samosas are a pretty good size. Let's say 50% bigger than Samosa King. The pastry is flaky and the ground chicken and ground beef on the inside was flavorful. Usually I prefer the ground beef as it has a stronger flavour... but in this case, the ground chicken was tastier in my opinion. The veggie Samosa was dense with potatoes and had a good taste but nothing spectacular. I was not given any chutney with the samosas. I would hope the owner would consider lowering the price or coming up with some kind of deal where if you order 5 or 10, you get a better rate on the samosa. While I was there I tried one each of their pineapple halwa and their toffee halwa. They have a bunch of different cool flavours of halwa (chocolate, walnut, fig, mixed nut and more). The pineapple halwa was unique and tasty. It had crushed pineapple inside. The toffee halwa, on the other hand, didn't really taste like toffee. It had more of a Dulce De Leche taste. But it's one of those things where the specialized flavour isn't apparent. You have to really wait and pay attention to taste it LOL I personally wouldn't recommend this flavour. Overall I would recommend the beef and chicken samosa and the pineapple halwa. I'll be back for more. read more

This place perhaps has the best Mithai in North America, they have a lot to learn about customer service especially for online orders. They screwed up my order and refuse to make it right. If you place an order online, best hope they get it right the first time, otherwise a lot of run around and empty apologies but no action. read more

I was in the plaza for some south indian food (Nilgiris) and decided to see if they had a nice sweet for me after my meal. I was not disappointed! The quality is really good. I only ordered 3 flavours as it was just for myself (besan, gajar and pistachio). next time I will try the milk cake! As for service, they are slow. one person in front of me and there was several people behind the counter but no one offered to serve me and the one person who was serving people, must had been training someone because all they did was follow them around, so I had to wait to be served. So a few days back I was having this craving of chana chaat so we decided to get it from Al Karam. I ordered one serving She asked me if i want it spicy or mild, I said spicy. To make it spicy, what they did is just put a heap full spoon of red chilli powder on top of it.I wish i took a picture of it. It looked far from edible so i discarded that chilli powder from top The bowl was just full of yogurt with a few chickpeas dispersed in it. Worst ever chana chat i had!! I wanted to do something nice for my Indian parents who live on Vancouver Island. I did a Google search and found Al-Karam Sweets and saw that they did delivery within Canada. I ordered a two pound box of Indian sweets. Before ordering I messaged the company and they were quick to reply and they had the shipment out the same day and my family received the sweets the next day!!! Purchased sweets on June 24th, drove from Mississauga to Markham. Usually worth the drive, as I've done so along with my family and some friends, for maybe 10 years. Once I got home, I opened the box and wife and her sister tried them. Old, stale, borderline rotten, and the appearance was just wrong. Called the store, not really sure why, as I would never drive back to return or exchange. The manager, extremely nice and professional, basically said that there was nothing she could do except apologize and exchange. So to sum it up, Customer service is excellent Prices are cheap Facility is spotless and clean (at least from where customers stand) Owner prefers to hide behind employees so as to avoid any confrontation. Coward. Quality of food...as of this experience, old and stale, borderline disgusting. Sweets - Delicious! Wide variety of high quality sweets. I cannot get enough of them. Really, when I drive by, I have to stop myself from coming here too often. OMG. Samosas - Good but I think A1 Sweets on Middlefield& Finch is better. The veggie samosas were filled with only potato. I think the spicing could be improved as well. My comment is not about the stuff these people sell, it's rather ethics and morals. I ordered 3 pound sweets, girl weighed it and started packing it with the remarks , " it's 3 pound 100 grams", i said, no, when i said 3 pounds , it means 3 pounds, no more than that. She gave me a dirty look and put that back on the scale then rudely said, " now it's exact 3 pounds",. I again said, no, it's not 3 pounds, it's 15 grams less since you are not counting the weight of the box, box is not sweets and it's not written anywhere in your store that price is for gross weight including box". She said, " everyone sells like that", i said if everyone doesn't stop on red light, it doesn't mean everyone is right and you should follow the wrong path".. Every western store i go to, it's always clearly written, " net weight/gross weight". Now, since these people pretend to be good muslims, they should practice accordingly, but what i see, they are charging per pound and giving less, which is a sin and Haram. Was visiting from the USA and went to buy sweets. Very disappointed by the service. Ordered 10lbs of sweets and when went to pay, I was told they don't accept credit cards. Offered debit card but they would not take MasterCard debit card. Offered U.S. cash but they refused to give exchange rate. Wanted to charge same amount in US dollars as in Canadian dollars. Very nice little place. The Indian sweets that I had were really nice. I'm Chinese and was trying it for the second time. I tried whatever looked like the original "punjabi" style sweets I've had once before. I was happy with the taste as it was spot-on what I had tried before from the "Punjabi" place. Extremely clean. The little ladies working there seemed so nice, knit-picky and cute with everything. From what I can see the place is absolutely clean including the kitchen. The reviewer on here talking about this dive being "gross" is totally a liar! I have been seeing this place since I was a young child, they are truly the best Mithai shop in Toronto, before I used to travel from Mississauga just to eat the mitahi now I come all the way from Brampton to buy their sweets very good and delicious, I know it is little expensive but the quality is very well maintained since years so I do not mind paying for the mithai. I ordered for delivery a box of burfi from Al Karam Sweets, and received it the day after the processing of the order. Everything about it was wonderful, the presentation, the speed and care of the service, and the quality of the product. In fact, I believe that it is the best burfi that I have ever eaten in my life (I limited myself to five types). The other great fact is that you don't have to go without if you live in a small town far from Toronto, because they deliver all over North America. read more

This place does have good quality sweets but, that does not mean they should be higher in price, i assume thats the way they think, alot of their competition , is offering sweets for a way cheaper price. Its only good for when you are buying less than 5 lbs, because i tried to buy 70 lbs for a special occasion and yet they are not willing to give any types of discount, i didnt think businesses would run like that. So if you buy 1 lb orbuy 80 lbs..the price is the same, i guess normal families with just a descent incomewont be able to afford this place, if they have a special occasion, and on top of that knowing al karam has good sweets, i hope the owner of this place reads this, and changes his methods of business read more
