This is the second time we've been here since we're from Chicago. Dessert - Everything is good. I can't complain about the taste. The portion is also good, although the plating will definitely need work. My husband ordered the durian pancake with sundae supreme, and they put it in a tiny plate, so it really gets messy. Price - I don't complain about price. As long as it's good, I will not complain. If you pay cash, you'll get 10% off, so yes to that! Service - I can't really say anything. It's just like in and out. The place definitely needs a clean-up, in my opinion.
Very tiny restaurant. Most of the tables are booth seats. You order off a QR code but our waiter offered us a physical menu which I really appreciated. Overall service was quite good. The food was cheap and nice. The supreme mango pancake was good- it's a crepe filled with whipped cream and mangoes. The size was nice. My boyfriend got the matcha parfait. The matcha ice cream had a really odd flavour to it- it was almost alcohol-like. The parfait was okay, it came with cereal, strawberries and cream. We also ordered the golden mango drink which was nice until I found an odd black substance in my drink. It kind of looked like a scraping of some sort. I only found it after I left the restaurant unfortunately. Our total came to under $40.
As one of the many shops at Midland and Finch plaza, Sugar Marmalade offers a good selection of snacks, desserts, and drinks. I think the value for what we got was reasonable and the service was quick. It is a small space with tables good for 2-4 people realistically. The shaved ice was good and I like the modification ability for some of the desserts here. However, nothing spectacular. Still a good spot to come by if you're ever in need of a last minute dessert spot.

The coconut taste was slightly sweet but also off as it gave me an artificial aftertaste. I'm unsure though. Desserts were prepared quickly and the server was nice. 10% off with cash.
Sugar Marmalade is a popular dessert cafe located across various areas of the GTA known for their desserts. Chocolate Egg Waffle: It was not too overly sweet and had a fluffy texture in the egg waffles. Usually I'm not a big chocolate person but the chocolate flavour wasn't too overwhelming. I highly recommend getting the egg waffles. Mixed Fruit Black Pearl: This was super refreshing would be perfect for a hot summer day especially with the mixed fruits. I recommend mixing the ice cream well as it definitely tasted less bland from the sweetness of the vanilla ice cream when thoroughly mixed in. Overall, I had a positive experience with this place. It can get relatively busy especially at night. The price point is quite affordable (around ~$7 to $9 range) and perfect for sharing.
Calling all mango lovers!! Was recommended this spot from a friend and wowww what an amazing dessert spot. Ordered the "G2 Black Grass Jelly with Golden Sago Mixed" and it was filled with fresh mango heaven! Waffle was crispy, matcha ice cream tasted amazing and the berries were really fresh. 10/10 would recommend :D

They went back to heat it up but it was only luke warm. The taste was just ok. My friend got the mango option, the mango was good but still not as good as what it used to be.
I tried this place for the first time and it was not bad. The downside is the fact that they ran out of a lot of things from the menu. I went with my friend around 9:45pm so def a little late. If you want more selections, go earlier! I will try for next time. You self order online using the code. Since there wasn't a lot of selections for me, I ended up ordering the mango pudding with fruits. It wasn't bad. I wish the pudding was colder.

Both times were good and memorable experiences. What stands out right away is the look and feel of the place. It is properly furnished and curated. There were enough seating to host the volume of customers. It was also a perfect idea to have a remote button to call the waiter to order, to pay, or for all other service requests since the place's floor plan is long and narrow. Last couple of things is that the food menu is expertly and professionally crafted, and the actual food you select and order comes out the same way it shows. Food presentation is excellent. What just puts me off and what I have observed both times I was here was the level of service you receive could be better. The servers were too dependent on the remote button ringing. Even then by beeping them, you do not get a prompt response. Waiting times are longer than acceptable. The servers also do not routinely walk around and see if there is any assistance they can provide or if there are any glass of water that can be refilled. Lastly, it is inconvenient that they do not have tap and credit card available as modes of payment. It says so in the written sign they have by the counter. That is a case of false advertisement.

The kids are craving for sugar so we end up here. I understand that they have multiple locations across the city. The tastes are consistent across as we have been to the other locations.
Great place to get desserts! Had their mango with pearl delight and it was really delicious. They also have DIY egg waffles with a good variety of toppings. I ordered the green tea waffle with green tea ice cream, red beans and bananas as my toppings. Must try!

Got us a booth, we wanted to satisfy our sweet tooth after an epic food-coma lunch at a famous lobster joint. Order: -House special mango, pomelo, sago, grass jelly - it was OK. I would have liked a stronger mango flavor and more pomelo (we got a teaspoon). $6-8 -Black sesame and soy milk - not my favorite. Friend liked it. $6-7 -Greentea shaved ice with red bean, mochi & condensed milk - liked it but I've had better. The shaved ice lacked flavor. $8-9 -Lychee Mint Italian Soda! Best thing I ordered! I love the mint + lychee combo! The sparkling soda made it even better. However must warn you, the lime pulp will give you a bit of shiver in this cold weather. $6-7 A good place for a quick bite, dessert or drinks. Lower your expectations, if you've had real Taiwanese shaved ice in Taipei!

Had to go Sugar Marmalade to try their Shaved Ice. We went to the one in Spadina Avenue. The server greeted us, gave the menus, offered the specials and personal recommendations. We ordered the Strawberry and Mango Shaved Ice. Unfortunately they were sold out of the Taro Shaved Ice. It was good, nice portions and good service. Cozy ambiance. Check it out! read more

Calling all mango lovers!! Was recommended this spot from a friend and wowww what an amazing dessert spot. We got the Papaya and white fungus dessert soup + Mango grass jelly sago I know white fungus sounds weird but it's really good and underrated very refreshing and smooth texture. One of my favourite desserts when I want something light and chilled during summer. The mango dessert is also really great too! I find it really depends on whether the mangoes they use are ripe or not though. read more
This is my spot for shaved ice downtown Toronto. I usually get the mango shaved ice (photos attached). Its layered: -Mango Shaved Ice at the bottom -Fresh cut mango slices next -Mango syrup -Vanilla iced cream -Lil shotglass of condensed milk and mango puree to pour ontop Service is usually good. The only thing I don't like is, this place has an extensive menu (amazing! but wait for it) which in a group can hack up a hefty bill of $50-$100+, however, they only take cash! read more

*They only take CASH (ATM available on site)* They pretty much serve typical Taiwanese/Chinese foods you'd find at a bubble tea shop or dessert place. Ordered the Teriyaki Fries and Minced Beef on Rice. The fries were good. The restaurant is very small, and the back of the restaurant (the entrance attached to the mall) has almost no walking room for customers. No washrooms either. You have to use the mall washrooms. read more
A small bubble tea and dessert place, located within the Dragon City Mall. You can't enter from their Dundas door during the afternoon. You can only enter and exit from within the mall at that time. The service was fast and polite. We ordered a fresh watermelon juice with tapioca and a cold honey milk green tea with grass jelly. The watermelon juice tasted good. It was well sweetened and nice and cold. However the tapioca wasn't fully cooked. It was a bit hard and just bland (not sweet at all). The honey milk green tea had no honey taste at all. It was also very lukewarm. The grass jelly was okay, just your average grass jelly. We were also both surprised at how small the cups were. All in all, I definitely wouldn't go back for their drinks. There are so many other options around Chinatown that taste better and give better sizes at cheaper prices. It's also cash only. read more

This is my go-to place for fast and affordable Asian desserts! This time round, I ordered their mango shaved ice cream and taro black glutinous rice dessert. Mango shaved ice cream (3.5/5) Because mangos are currently not in season, I wouldn't recommend ordering any of their desserts that feature mangoes in them because it wasn't ripe nor sweet. The icecream also tasted very artificial so I didn't end up finishing it all. Taro black glutinous rice (5/5) I loved this one! The combination of glutinous rice with coconut mixture and fresh taro was delightful. Also had mochi balls in them so it gives it a nice texture on top of the fresh taro chunks. I also love that they have a call button. By pressing this button, the server is notified that you are ready to order, and there's even a button that you can press when you want your bill! read more

I've tried plenty of their desserts before and their flavours, just the right sweetness level, huge portions, and plating are always consistent! Their pricing is also really reasonable for the selection you get and the portion. This location was a lot smaller but it doesn't get too crowded anyways, so it's fine. Chocolate Egg Waffle: fluffy chocolate flavoured bubble waffles topped with generous amounts of Oreo chunks, chocolate drizzles, chocolate ice cream and banana. Mango Supreme Roll: the mangoes were sweet and pretty fresh, I couldn't taste the coconut of the roll, but overall still a pleasant mango dessert for less than $6! read more

Shaved ice: This place has the best shaved ice (patbingsu) I've found in the city so far. I ordered the mango one and I realized they mix mango smoothie in then blend with the ice (not like other places, just shaved ice with some syrup on top). Drink: they have an awesome Oreo Milk Tea (BT2), recommend! Appetizers & Entree: - Fried balls are 4/5, so so for snack. - However the Hong Kong style Rice Roll (AP16) and Cheese baked Eel Rice (EN3) is really good, 5/5 Cheesecake: go for the New York chessecake one! The menu in general is very overwhelming, too many choices. Highly recommend friends & absolutely will come back one day. read more

Went to get dessert at sugar marmalade after dinner and got their mango shaved ice! It came with vanilla ice cream and mango pieces and was delicious! The service was quick and friendly as well. It was a pretty big portion so definitely can be shared among a few friends! Definitely will drop by for desserts in the future! read more
Mangoes mangoes mangoes. If you have a craving for mangoes or something sweet, this is the place for you. As much as I enjoy mangoes, this is too much. There are other options as well but i haven't explored them yet. One thing i may complain is their seating capacity. It isn't their fault they are so popular and downtown rent is so high, but their seating is very limited and often I would pass here because of no space. So you can imagine seating is a bit cramped inside too. read more
Hole-in-the-wall Taiwanese dessert (and savory) gem in Chinatown, on the Dundas side of the Dragon City Mall. Open until late, so perfect for after dinner dessert if you happen to be in the area. Seating does become limited late at night on weekends even though for such a small space they do have quite a number of booths. The grass jelly dish was disappointing, 1/5 stars... There was hardly any grass jelly and the "fresh" papaya was definitely not fresh. The taro shaved ice on the other hand was amazing! The shaved ice was so creamy and sweet, did not have the icy texture that I was envisioning! It was also pretty big, so probably could share amongst 3-4 people. If you are severely lactose intolerant, don't come. read more
This Chinese dessert place located inside Dragon City Mall in Chinatown offers a pretty large selection of desserts including shaved ice, bubble waffles, fresh fruits, and grass jellies. It made for a good spot for casual hangout / refreshing dessert - especially in the summer. read more

We ordered on Ritual from Sugar Marmalade. We got the black sesame paste with red bean tang yuan and Taiwanese fried chicken. The wait for the pickup took about 10 minutes, which was what they informed us. The Taiwanese chicken was very delicious and was a generous portion. It was still very hot by the time we got the order and it wasn't too fried. I could taste a lot of the chicken and it was seasoned well. I expected more from the black sesame paste. It's one of my favourite desserts and it's really hard to do well. The paste from Sugar Marmalade was too water-y and you couldn't taste the richness of the black sesame. The portion was also small. The tang yuan were quite yummy but I felt it was too chewy compared to what I'm used to. The order this time from SM was experimental and it didn't live up to my expectations. Best to stay with the typical orders that they know how to do. read more

I don't know about this place. I want to love it, because it's open late and there are Chinese desserts!! But the desserts aren't anything you can't do at home and there isn't anything special. It is overpriced for what it is. 1) Pass on the hot food/non-sweet items 2) Pass on the sweet teas 3) Try the tapioca pudding, taro milk tea, sesame paste, and Chinese sweet soup dumplings! read more

As soon as we walked in, we were intrigued and captivated by the exotic and fresh take on dessert. I was going for waffles and to really just satisfy my sweet tooth but definitely got more than what I expected. I got the Fresh Mongo Sago Mixed, it was my first time having sago. The mangos were fresh, the coconut flavour was hinted at, not overwhelming. The dessert itself wasn't so sweet, which was perfect for me. I wish the portion size was a bit more because I liked it so much! My friend got the chocolate egg waffles with strawberries, chocolate ice cream, and whip cream. This is not your typical waffle! It's crunchy! :) I am giving it a 4 because of the service. The waiter did not bring us our forks when our dessert arrived, we were told we'd have to wait 20 min for the waffles but it was def more like 30-40 min. They also only take cash, which is a negative for me. Luckily we had cash, if you don't you'd have to go to a nearby atm to withdraw money. I'd definitely come back to try more mango-based desserts (peek mango shaved ice) read more

Fast, good Asian Fusion food. (Cash only! ATM inside) Sugar Marmalade with their various locations is one of my go-to places for either a light snack, dessert or drinks. The prices are decent, food comes fast and although the place is smaller (only a limited number of seats), people come and go so it's not a long wait for a table! One of my essential orders at Sugar Marmalade include their Teriyaki Fries (first photo). A handful of slim cut fries topped with mayonnaise, teriyaki sauce, seaweed flakes and bonito flakes. If you've ever had the Japanese dish called Takoyaki, this is basically it (except with fries instead of octopus balls). A great dish for sharing! Only let down was that the location did not provide forks and instead gave us two long skewer sticks to pick at the fries (lol that's a first for me) I also ordered the Fresh Fruits with Soya Bean Jelly (second photo). It's basically the Chinese dish Douhua topped with strawberries, mangoes, cantaloupes, watermelons and papaya cubes. The fruits were refreshing but I was quite disappointed the Tofu Pudding was lukewarm. read more

The area of where sugar marmalade is at is kind of sketchy at night and I had an unfortunate and uncomfortable encounter of gang like people coming into the store. The owners however treated us nicely and were very apologetic about it. They dealt with the situation to the best of their ability but I would suggest going there during the day instead. The desserts did take a little longer than usual to come but the taste was worth it. The black sesame paired really well with the egg waffles and the waffle was freshly made so it was hot and crispy. Great pairing of hot and cold ! The mango pudding wasn't too sweet but the mangos were a little sour (bad season?). The desserts were reasonably priced. Overall it was still a good experience and I would come again with friends still during the day for Asian desserts! read more

For a Taiwanese dessert place... I thought it'd be better. Nothing wrong exactly but I had higher expectations. They try to pull off a cool Asian fusion vibe but honestly, given the location in Chinatown and the fact the whole place is just painted black from the inside, it's just not that impressive. For example, some 'cool' or 'hip' things they've done including put a spotlight shining their logo in the front entrance and each table has a 'call' button. Meh, seems superficial in contrast given that we have to write down our orders ourselves in spite of these features. As for the food, couple of my friends got the sago here and it didn't look very appetizing. I got the strawberry shaved ice which I thought was much better. I thought shaved ice would be more icey? It was more like they put ice cream through a slicer. The ice cream was great though. The jam was a little bit extra but tastey as I like strawberry jam. The ice cream bowl was also nice and cold. I also got popcorn chicken to-go here once. They were pretty busy but I waited a LONG time for the popcorn chicken. Wasn't salty enough. I think I'll try the waffle next time if I ever come by again. I like how they have a variety of both sweet and savoury food. I go there mainly for their desserts, including grass jelly, Pana cotta, sago, parfait. I usually get House Special grass jelly mixed, which has Aiyo jelly, grass jelly, taro cubes, glutinous balls, chocolate & vanilla ice cream finished with condensed milk. In my first try, I liked it because of all the Toppings and and ice cream. My 2nd try was okayish - I was full of it and couldn't finish it. I've also tried their house special mango dessert over a year ago, and I found it okayish as well. Foodwise, I would give 3.5/5. Price 4/5. Their price is very reasonable compared to other similar dessert places. Service 3.5/5. I've been there with my girlfriend a few months ago and the waitress was rude, as if they don't care about their customers. But this time, service was ok. Location/cleanliness 3.5/5. The restaurant is quite small with a small path to walk. But the restaurant was clean, including the tables. read more
