There is no clear line or ordering system, so customers end up cutting to the front while others stand around waiting. I've walked out before after being ignored at the counter for 10 minutes. Today I had to stay because I was picking up a group order, but it was another frustrating reminder of why I usually avoid this place. I have been coming here for 10 years off and on. This was my #1 spot when I lived in Michigan 10 years ago. I've been back a couple of times since then and it never disappoints. Living in California I could never find the same fluffy manaeesh. I found variations but nothing compared to Golden. Now that I'm closer(in Ohio) I made the drive to my cheese pies today. I was a little concerned b/c of complaints, new ownership, and bad service. After visiting today, I can tell all is well at Golden. Smiles and friendly faces and amazing cheese pies! I'm a young black man with a speech impediment. Every single time I come here and ATTEMPT to get food for myself. I'm either always looked down apon or just given a dirty look. The lady at the front desk never gives me a chance to speak or even a second to explain what I want before she's immediately rushing me assuming what I want just to hurry me up then it gets quite and everyone staring at me. Service terrible. They have two little kids running the front and one cooking they clearly have no type of management. I ordered food they tell me 10 mins I wait 40 mins. Okay cool then I go home and they can't even get my order right and apparently don't know the difference between chicken and beef. The way it is set up, the guy at the cash register takes your order, then he verbally relays your order specifics to the guy making the food behind the counter. All good, right? Wrong! I walk in, two in line ahead of me, no problem... except, the next guy who walks in, gets in line, is clearly agitaded that it is taking awhile, so he walks over to the counter and effectively skips the line by placing his order with the guy behind the counter, got his food 10 minutes before me. The dude behind the counter should have told him to get line like everyone else. They make their breads fresh every morning and through a clay oven of some sort. The bread is crisp on the edges but has the perfect doughy texture. The cheese oozes and melts in between. What you do is, you fold the bread in half and just tear it apart. It's one of the best savory treats you'll ever have in the most simplest form. For only $2.50 this is beyond a steal. Their service is ok here. I felt like they were slightly rude and weren't willing to answer my questions but it is what it is; not that big of a deal. The desserts didn't look fresh either. This is NOT the same as the Golden Bakery in Dearborn. They are great where this one is ridiculous. We went here thinking it was another Golden bakery but they only have the same name and don't know how to make certain foods. The hummus was ugly looking and didn't taste right, the meat on the rotisserie were not turning and their tabuli was so bad nobody could eat it. We're half middle eastern so we've eaten these foods our entire life so we know what's made right. My favorite that is served is the shish-kafta, fried kibbie, and falafel. The garlic sauce is also out of this world; it is creamy with just the right amount of garlic flavoring. Ooooh so good! They are very friendly and answered all my questions. Many of the breads aren't labeled, so I was asking about what they were stuffed with. I felt like I was slowing the line, but thankfully the Dad/son behind me were listen and ordered extra because she listed off some that interested them too. My husband and I were in the Dearborn area so naturally we had to stop at our favorite small middle eastern bakery. The best part about this Bakery is the staff and owners. They make you feel like family and are helpful with food even if you're new to Middle Eastern. You can dine in if you'd like: however, the area is a bit small so I would recommend going outside of busy times such as lunch. They have a large assortment of freshly made food and they actually make their own bread there as well. The staff is so warm and friendly they will shake your hand on the way out and asked if everything was okay. In addition to the freshly made food you can also choose from their Suites they have baklava cookies, etc. I happen to love their tabouli and my husband is obsessed with their cheese bread. There are many options for those who are vegetarian, including vegetarian stuffed grape leaves, spinach pies, salads, rice dishes and bread.
