The gentlemen we had were friendly and took care of all of our luggage. The company has great communication. We were scheduled to be picked up at 4:45am but at around 9pm the night before I started getting nervous that we should leave a few minutes earlier, so I sent them an email asking if we could leave at 4:30am instead, really not expecting anyone to respond in time. They actually emailed me back within 10 minutes and confirmed the earlier pick-up time. Then, our return flight landed at PDX (an unheard of!) 40 minutes early. As soon as we touched down I texted the number to see if there would be any way someone could come pick us up for 40 minutes earlier than planned, again not necessarily expecting a response - especially since it was close to midnight. However, they texted me back instantly that my driver would be in touch with me soon, and sure enough our driver texted me within a few minutes. By the time we grabbed our suitcases off of the conveyor and walked a few minutes to the curb, our driver was already there and waiting despite us being 40 minutes early - and, again, it was close to midnight on a Wednesday. We are customers for life!

Everything we own packed was into seven suitcases, and so we needed help to get from the airport to our hotel in Salem. The choice was an Uber, which would not have worked for our situation, or a luxury car service. Hewar was wonderful from when I first called him to arrange our trip. He was attentive and patient, even when I called him multiple times with questions. The manager, Rasheem, met us at baggage claim. Our driver, Zhieco, was professional and friendly. He helped us get our (very heavy) luggage into the hotel. On the other hand, the company I called first did not give me a chance to explain why we needed help at baggage claim. As soon as he heard that, he immediately said he couldn't help me. He threatened to post my phone number online when I wrote him a one-star review. I was shocked. I would've taken it down, regardless, because I don't post bad reviews. So, I was especially glad to talk with Hewar on my second phone call. I highly recommend Elite. If I ever need a service like this again, I will for sure call Hewar.

I've used them twice based on this site and I wont be fooled again. First, they didn't answer the phone either time. They called back 90 seconds later when I was ringing a new number. Second, there is some major language difficulties going on here. I tend to think I speak clear enough to be understood verbally (after all the Pizzas I have delivered always arrive OK), but the first time the dispatcher asked me to text him the address, and he'd call me back; the second time the driver called me three different times to ask where my housing street was, and finally said he was close. We waited outside for 25 minutes before he showed up. The car was filthy, and my friend said he didn't notice a license posted. This company could improve with just a few changes. 1. Get a professional dispatcher that answers the phone and speaks clearly. Have Google maps ready and input the address the caller gives them, confirming they heard you correctly. Put the location of the cab that will respond in the directions and give the caller the estimated time of arrival. 2. Keep the vehicles clean and in fully working order. In the meantime I'm going to find a new cab company to call for pick ups. I just don't know which one, it seems all of them in this city have their detractors...

The guy that answered seemed to understand the timing and address, and I confirmed that he had my number. The day of pick up he called at 4:20am and I reminded him I needed to be picked up at 4:30. At 4:35 I called and he said he had taken a wrong turn, but evaded my question when I asked when he would arrive. At 4:40 my brother offered to take me to the airport. At 4:50am I got another call from the taxi guy and I'm not entirely sure what he even said to me. I told him I no longer needed him as I was supposed to leave twenty minutes ago. He apologized and hung up. He was at least twenty minutes late to picking me up for something as important as getting to the airport. I have no idea when he would have actually arrived but I'm certain I would not have made it to my flight. Communication does not seem to be a strong point with this company, nor punctuality.

Some things really stink about traveling solo…read more.. My jokes aren't nearly as funny when I tell them to myself. When you are tired and cranky there is no one else to deal with the crisis at hand. And my least favorite thing is that sometimes it seems like you pay twice as much for that hotel, taxi, gas, etc. when you don't have another person to split the costs. I was reminded of this little travel problem when trying to find the most economical way to get to and from PDX for a long trip. On short trips, Park-n-Fly or PDX long term parking are great, but weren't an option for this trip. So after much calling and web surfing for rates, I booked a towncar because they have a promotion where first time customers get a 20% discount if you pay by cash or check. So I got to travel in style without picking up other passengers and it was less expensive than the other shuttle services I checked. The owner was my driver both to and from PDX and I must say it was nice to see a friendly, familiar face after a long overnight flight. He was also on time (or early), personable during the drive and clearly takes pride in running a good business.

The Good: The driver was incredibly friendly and chatty. He actually gave us some fantastic restaurant recommendations to check out while we celebrate my birthday here in Portland. The Bad: The interior of the car was quite smelly, which wasn't a great way to start the trip. The Unacceptable: We took the cab late at night (around 10:50 PM) with absolutely zero traffic. The 20-minute ride somehow racked up a $58 meter fare, which seemed unusually high even with the standard airport drop fee. However, the real issue happened at drop-off. I handed the driver a $100 bill, and he claimed he couldn't break it, returning only $30, essentially forcing the airport run to a whopping $70 out-of-pocket. While I appreciated the local dining tips, using the "no change" excuse on arriving airport passengers is an unprofessional way to pocket extra cash. Tip for future riders: If you take a cab from the PDX line, make sure you pay with a credit card or carry exact change so you don't get hit with a forced tip.
