We were scheduled to be picked up at 4:45am but at around 9pm the night before I started getting nervous that we should leave a few minutes earlier, so I sent them an email asking if we could leave at 4:30am instead, really not expecting anyone to respond in time. They actually emailed me back within 10 minutes and confirmed the earlier pick-up time. Then, our return flight landed at PDX (an unheard of!) 40 minutes early. As soon as we touched down I texted the number to see if there would be any way someone could come pick us up for 40 minutes earlier than planned, again not necessarily expecting a response - especially since it was close to midnight. However, they texted me back instantly that my driver would be in touch with me soon, and sure enough our driver texted me within a few minutes. By the time we grabbed our suitcases off of the conveyor and walked a few minutes to the curb, our driver was already there and waiting despite us being 40 minutes early - and, again, it was close to midnight on a Wednesday. I use a ride share app myself but for my client's first ride alone I opted to call Radio Cab because it is what the concierge at her community uses. The Radio Cab dispatcher was laughably rude. He angrily refused to give a driver ETA "I have no way of knowing! I don't want to lie to you." I explained that my client was a sight impaired senior citizen and told the dispatcher that she was anxious. He responded with another impatient retort. After waiting with her and her dog for one hour I gave up and installed Lyft on her phone. Nine minutes later a kind driver appeared in a beautiful, spotless, well air conditioned (it was 90 degrees outside) car. My client's Radio Cab arrived 45 minutes later, almost 2 hours after I called. Two weeks ago I received a frantic call from a resident at the same facility who was stranded at her bank after waiting over an hour for her Radio Cab. I was with another client so she had to be rescued my the community's medical transport car. How is Radio Cab still in business? Starting tomorrow, I will be helping residents install the Lyft app and giving one on one instructions to help them become comfortable with this far superior option.

Let's paint this town orange!…read more After five years of planning, Milwaukie is now all about the Orange (Line). I don't think I've ever seen such excitement in downtown Milwaukie. Streets were closed, the Sunday Farmer's Market was open on a Saturday, it was free comic book day and folks in character costumes wandered the streets. There were food carts, live music and orange everywhere you looked to celebrate the long awaited grand opening of the Orange Line to Milwaukie. Kudos to the event organizers. This is the main station in the downtown area. There is also one more station further south where the line terminates on SE Park Avenue and that station has a large parking structure. The biggest difficulty here were the traffic lights and pedestrian crossings. I don't think they are timed quite right just yet and hopefully they'll make adjustments to help the flow of auto and foot traffic around the station. But, aesthetically it is nicely designed with some cute sayings printed in the concrete like, "On trains we stand shoulder to shoulder." I hope the businesses in the area get a nice little bump in business.
