When staying in this area there are limited choices of restaurants.  This one came recommended from our food tour and the hotel. The menu was an offering of solid local fare and the views, especially sunset, were great.  Sometimes a bad waiter can be a buzz kill and cause me to rate the food or total experience worse than i should. We ordered the cheese appetizer, thinking we were getting the soft cheese and not understanding there was a choice between soft and firm cheese.  The waiter didn't not ask us which one we wanted and brought the one we did not want but ate anyway - its cheese! We asked for the tuna to be medium rare and it came out well.  We had no chance to tell him because we could not flag him down.  The sides were standard but but overcooked.  The steak au pouvre was well cooked and tasty.   The manager seemed intent on running a tight ship and I let him know about the bad service and he took it seriously.  For that reason alone, I would suggest giving it another shot if you are in town read more

We chose Alabote after a few other restaurants in the Ribeira Grande area were closed due to the season and stormy March weather. The location is beautiful, and the patio looks like it would be wonderful on a nice day. The meal had some highlights: the garlic shrimp was delicious, the local Azorean red wine was excellent, and the wreckfish was tasty, though a bit bony. The potatoes were also very good. The limpets and desserts were just okay for us. Service was friendly and polite, but a bit confusing. We had multiple servers throughout the meal, and the timing felt off at times. Overall, it was a decent experience in a stunning spot. I'd return for a drink, some shrimp, and the view on a sunny day. read more

Go here if you must but... let me be your friend. If you are not sitting outside, don't do it. Inside is a dining hall with no music but outside does have a nice atmosphere. Food wise... the best thing we had was the garlic bread (actually so good) but that's it on things to write home about. We've been on a 19 day trip across portugal and azores, eating 3 times a day, and have agreed this was our worst meal. The service was also so bad we have never been more confused. Conclusion: eat outside for vibes or go somewhere else imo read more

There is a lot of amazing food here on the island but this place is not included in that. Slow service, unseasoned food, expensive price. Best thing about this place is the view, which is beautiful. If you must come here, come for the drinks, don't spend your money here on food. read more

This is a fairly upscale restaurant located in Ribeira Grande with a nice view overlooking the waters. I ordered the fish with prawns and bacon on a tile. The fish and the prawns are nicely cooked and I loved the creaminess of the sauce too. The service was good albeit a bit slow. Otherwise, solid meal with a great view! read more

Nice outdoor seating with amazing views and good food. Service was a little slow and the drink options were limited, but the views were amazing. Parking is wherever you can find a spot near and around. Prices were on the slightly higher side, but nothing bad. read more

This was our first meal on sao Miguel. We ordered the grilled wreckfish w butler sauce and micaelense's steak with sao Miguel local wine. We needed a gluten free meal. Went into restaurant early slightly before dinner crowd. Sat for 10 minutes before being acknowledged. Ordered two steak dishes and 2 chicken dishes. The tenderloin was grainy and not much flavor. The sirloin was very tough and not edible. I tried the sirloin from my daughter. It was like chewing a rubber dog toy or rubber tire take your pick of rubber shape. Also ordered 2 chicken dishes. Both dishes came out cold. Service was pretty poor. They had enough wait staff. Seems they didn't care about being there. read more

This is an upscale atmosphere but not an upscale chef. The service was great, the entrees were very good. Order the fish. Food was over priced relative to other authentic Restos on the island. Good spaghetti for kids and a little play area. PS: North Americans - whatever you do, do NOT order the Caesar salad. We were excited about a fresh Cesar with bacon and croutons (!!) and instead we got limp lettuce with hot chicken (who puts hot chicken on a cold salad?) with mayonnaise sauce. A pretty nice place with delicious food. Plenty of parking on front of the restaurant. Make sure to try their soups. Both soup of the day (vegetarian) and seafood was good. The seafood dish (pictured) was very good as well. Orange juice was fresh and the view from the terrace to the sea was awesome. The chocolate mouse at the end was a great finish. This is a great little restaurant overlooking the water in Ribeira Grande Service was a little slow but the food was phenomenal. We started off with the grilled limpets (picture below), which I had never had before. They were delicious--slightly similar to a mussel with a firmer texture but still pretty unique in their own right. For entrees I had the octopus (picture below) and my girlfriend had the swordfish. The swordfish was great, but the octopus was out of this world. It was a grilled octopus, but was very different from other meals I've had before in the fact that it was a very rich dish. The portion was very large, so it was great to share. I highly recommend going to this restaurant. read more

Bad experience. Nice view but bad service and very bad food ! We took garlic shrimps as starter but the shrimps were absolutely tasteless. (One plate costs 13€ !...) We tried then the cataplana from the house, fishes were full of fishbones. I wouldn't recommend this tourist place ! read more

5 stars for service on the outdoor patio. It is an incredible place to catch a sunset while eating (especially in the months of July and August). I had the fish served on a tile with prawns. It was fresh and used local ingredients. I was totally pleased with the dish. I enjoy my yearly visit here, and look forward to next year. read more
