Olive oil, garlic, Parmesan and paprika(I think). For dipping your bread. Yum!

We stopped for a late lunch. There were only 2 others eating. We were interested in the fresh fish and our server took us up to the display and explained all the options. We decided on the Parrot Fish (grilled) and it was superb! Lightly seasoned and perfectly cooked. The meal comes with olives and bread and this amazing olive oil (garlic, Parmesan, paprika) for dipping. We also tried the fried validation and it was really good. I would not hesitate to return if we are nearby again.

Great food and really nice people!

Amazing food and amazing service. Best sangria I have ever had. Highly recommend the seafood Cataplana. It was amazing.

Bookmarked this restaurant as a must try while in the island after reading the recommendations. Restaurant was not to appealing by the surroundings. Very unkept part of the area no fault to the business but by the residence in the area. Felt like a harbor ghetto. Service was really good, and since our mission was to find the best of the dishes we enjoy, we had the basics and a few new dishes to try. Started with the fresh cheese and the grilled lapas along with the garlic shrimps, The cheese is similar to all the other restaurants so far. The garlic shrimps was good sized shrimps and flavorful, the lapas was the biggest disappointment on the whole trip. It was the tiniest lapas we've ever seen to date. I could believe the served them. I think they were too small to be harvested. They were all a bit smaller than my thumb nail. For entrees, we selected the tuna steak, fried octopus and the fish stew. The entrees was good and the seafood stew was large because I ordered the for 2 portion. The actual chef was not in the night we when in but the owner took the helms and cooked our meal. All in all other than the big disappointment with the lapas the over all on the meal was a good choice.

We ended our vacation in the Azores with a dinner here, and it was possibly the best meal from our entire trip. The proportions were massive, the server was so sweet and the manager/chef was so friendly. The decor had a nautical theme (makes sense given the name). We ordered the Squid ink pasta and the Cod on the Portuguese tile, both were delicious, with extremely fresh seafood, and overall were just comforting dishes. The experience was so authentic. We couldn't have been happier with our last meal and would recommend this place to anyone!

On a private guided tour of the Azores, we were taken to a hidden gem that exceeded all of my expectations. Being Portuguese, I knew the hospitality and ambiance would be above par and the food would not disappoint. What I didn't expect was that it would go beyond all of my wildest expectations. The owner was exceptional and made us feel at home. The service was second to none. Now for the food. We were a party of eight with appetizers, cheese boards, alcohol, and meals. Not a crumb was left. The fish was fresh, the meats were beyond tender and they definitely know why a medium rare steak looks like. The sangria was unlike any I have ever had. I highly recommend you don't leave without trying at least a glass (but good luck with that one). Only disappointing thing about this experience is that it's over. DEFINITELY A MUST TRY. IF I COULD GIVE IT 10 STARS I WOULD.

We were seated promptly. The owner was friendly and helped us with a wine recommendation that was very good. She recently became the owner here. We started with the calamari which was so tender. She recommended the Caldeirada. They had a choice of fish, seafood or vegetarian. We chose the seafood. Clams, mussels and shrimp. Potatoes, onions & Peppers. The presentation was great! It was tasty.

Cannot get any fresher or more delicious than this! Our first day here and what a way to start...we let our waitress choose our meals for us! We had a delicious appetizer of shellfish griddled at the table with butter, slices of garlic & fresh squeezed lemon, fresh caught fish, local white wine, mmmmmmm.

    Cataplana de peixe

Excellent service and fresh food! The Cataplana de peixe was wonderful. The staff was very accommodating and explained everything in detail. The Triggerfish was tasty and well cooked. With the trip!

Amazing meal! Fresh seafood. Local cheese offered to begin with don't miss those! Try the fish, clams and shrimp. Vino verde is excellent. Very slow service since it's a one man show. Don't be disappointed

The menu was an offering of solid local fare and the views, especially sunset, were great.  Sometimes a bad waiter can be a buzz kill and cause me to rate the food or total experience worse than i should. We ordered the cheese appetizer, thinking we were getting the soft cheese and not understanding there was a choice between soft and firm cheese.  The waiter didn't not ask us which one we wanted and brought the one we did not want but ate anyway - its cheese! We asked for the tuna to be medium rare and it came out well.  We had no chance to tell him because we could not flag him down.  The sides were standard but but overcooked.  The steak au pouvre was well cooked and tasty.   The manager seemed intent on running a tight ship and I let him know about the bad service and he took it seriously.  For that reason alone, I would suggest giving it another shot if you are in town

The location is beautiful, and the patio looks like it would be wonderful on a nice day. The meal had some highlights: the garlic shrimp was delicious, the local Azorean red wine was excellent, and the wreckfish was tasty, though a bit bony. The potatoes were also very good. The limpets and desserts were just okay for us. Service was friendly and polite, but a bit confusing. We had multiple servers throughout the meal, and the timing felt off at times. Overall, it was a decent experience in a stunning spot. I'd return for a drink, some shrimp, and the view on a sunny day.

We showed up, waited, and called with no avail until a kind local told us they were not going to open today. I was a bit wary with some of the reviews before booking and should have taken my gut feeling more seriously. If you're walking north towards Rua de Sao Joao, it's on the right as you're walking passed the parking lot. Boca de Cena is a small restaurant that is very modern, with lots of mood lighting. I would even go so far as to label it a romantic place to bring dates. The restaurant has about 9-10 tables, depending on the table arrangement. It was never busy when I was there, likely because it was not high tourist season, so reservations were not necessary but I can see it getting busy during the summer months. Although there are a number of options on the menu, one or two items may not be available due to lack of ingredients. For fish options, they only make what was caught that day. For instance, I was fortunate enough to order the only ahi tuna that they had that day. Over the two visits, I ordered the grilled shrimp, the ahi tuna, and the grilled octopus. The grilled shrimp were pretty large and tasty. I thought the ahi tuna was just okay. Like at other restaurants, it seems like they unnecessarily add too much salt to an already salty protein. The grilled octopus was my favorite of all the dishes. The octopus was nicely grilled so that it had a crunch, but was still soft and tender. The suckers on the tentacles fell off in my mouth, so that added some fun texture to the mix. I also ordered a chocolate cake, but you get 2 small slices so it wasn't worth it. Dinner came out to about 40€. There is one wait staff now, so the chef no longer runs the front and the back as others have mentioned.
