WHAT, how do I NOT have a Yelp review here... Quality/Quantity - Nice local small marketplace, supermarket. My daughter has been driving 30+ miles for her sashimi grade fish and I suggested she come here instead. So today, I mainly came to share and prove to her that they sell it here. See pictures. Other departments that we frequent are: Coffee shop, Greens & Grains Salad restaurant, Farmstead Cheese & Wine, Sushi King, Feel Good Bakery, Tahina (one of our favorite restaurants), East End (one of our favorite happy hours, $1 oysters, etc), and of course the grocery departments, etc. These departments and businesses are all independent and locally owned. Is the tea shop new? But closed or soon to be open...? I have not seen this here in the past. My wife bought a few loaves of bread today. Atmosphere - Clean, a locally organized medium size supermarket. Plenty of mall parking. Indoor/outdoor seating. Service - Good. Price - Slightly above average, but that is the cost for quality. Owner Comment - Congrats on your success since 2002, we are long time customers. I still remember East End used to be where Tahina is now.

Definitely stop through here if you're looking for some unique items. Its giving cute/fancy market place & has other vendors in there but still has a wide variety of well stocked shelves. I just stopped by for the first time to pick up a Burma Love Vegan Tea Leaf salad kit & thankfully they had a few in stock. I did call before to check they carried it but didn't ask specifically for the vegan version so I was grateful they had it, I'm not sure if they usually carry the original/spicy kit but they had other grab n go Burma love products . Even though I was only in there for 5 min, I still scanned a few isles & was able to find a bunch of vegan options, so I grabbed my fav MyForest Foods Bacon, So Delicious Whip, lions mane burger patty & some Tamales. This is close to my house so it'll def be a go to for my vegan needs. I'd say the prices are on par with the usual costs for these types of items, if your a vegan you already know Also the staff on the phone were pleasant & the person at the register was about to close & walking away but saw I was heading her way, so she waved me over & met me at the register

** The following review reflects my experience DURING the COVID-19 pandemic. ** This red brick building is actually a key touch point for me and Jamie W. because we sometimes stroll Park Street from Alameda Beach to here and then back again. On a fair weather weekend, it's a pleasant walk because there are lots of places to stop and grab a bite. What makes this destination attractive is that there are ten separate businesses housed in here, and they've been able to control the foot traffic to survive this pandemic. You enter from the parking lot side, and you may have to wait a bit if it's busier than usual. We've had the huge salads at Greens & Grains and the hand rolls at Sushi King. An extensive butchery and bakery anchor the line of shops, but most of the space is actually devoted to the organic offerings in the Alameda Natural Grocery store. I've never been disappointed with the produce selection here. This gourmand's emporium is well worth a stop given all the necessary precautions. RELATED - Exploring Alameda? I like this Market!! I was in here pre corona, so I don't know about current changes. It's a little pricey, and the parking lot is a little cramped sometimes, but inside I saw a sushi place, pizza place and a bakery inside. All are very small with very limited seating, basically it's set up to go. The market has a nice sized wine collection area, and the market itself is bigger than the other areas. I did like their juice selection. Good place!!

Quick visit since i went to Feel Good Bakery for some items. I'll definitely have to return and peruse the other places located in this cool place..i saw Farmstead Cheese and Wine, pizza place, a sushi place and specialty/gourmet groceries. I was definitely impressed with the variety and will be back soon!

Sort of an industrial chic feel to this place, very similar set up to the one in the city on 10th and Market... only this one is smaller. A bakery, meat and seafood, natural grocery store, cheese and wine, the Beanery, East End and more. The Bakery is ok for lunch, even better for dessert. Its expensive but some of the stuff is really good. For example they have the most beautiful pies around. East End is known for pizza chicken and drinks. Baron's meat is known great meat including more unusual meats - rabbit/goose and grass fed local/sustainable Organic groceries and health supplements. There is a restroom that operates on coins just past the butcher. Grab a token when you are at the register. Parking is ok - spaces are small. Out door seating. Very pleasant experience.

Covid-19 line facilitator needs an attitude adjustment. Maybe take a note from Trader Joe's. Otherwise, this store is great.

We shop there occasionally (three-four times a year). Can't say much about owner(s) or employees as I never interacted much other than "in out, bing bang" and that's it. I didn't notice or experience any rude or "strange" behavior, neither from customers nor employees, otherwise it would've been one star just like all those other reviews (I rarely give five stars to businesses). Also I noticed during my brief shopping visits that other patrons at that moment were from different cultures, speaking different languages, and from different ethnic backgrounds. Truly a diverse and multicultural environment. Finally to Abigail C.: Maybe you should take your rowdy, sugar hopped-up kids to the park to play or spend more time teaching them good manners. The pistachio cream cake and ricotta and pistachio cake sound good too, so many desserts. They also have Mitchell's ice cream. Although there is a sound effect that goes off when you step in the door so the owner or staff must've known when I came in, and they also looked up when a few other people went in and out of the store, I was standing at the counter for about 5 mins before they realized I was waiting to order, so that was awkward. I realized the register is set up for grocery store and not like a restaurant so there wasn't a way to enter a tip for the drink order when paying with credit card; they only have a jar for cash tips. It says minimum $5 for credit or debit or they will charge you $0.50. The owner/employee is pretty no nonsense in demeanor. I ordered a $5 hot mocha for 16 oz. The prices are pretty good for hot drinks. For some reason, for iced drinks, which have a smaller selection, the price jumps up significantly between the 12oz and 16oz size. You can get up to 20oz size for the hot drinks. The coffee itself was pretty good, though, and I liked the amount of chocolate in it. Not bad for drinks, you just might have to try to speak up to get the owner's attention if they are busy washing dishes or not looking your way / not at the register.

The pricing is always on par or usually lower than other spots in town. During the pandemic, a beloved clerk there (Kenny, miss you!) told me that a customer had told him they should raise prices on an item, because another market in town was selling it for 30% more or so. Kenny mentioned that to Sam, who firmly said, "no, I'm not raising prices." Our hero. He also stocks things for neighborhood locals if they even mention wanting them. It's the spot for every kid to run into and pick out an ice cream or candy (and maybe tell Amy about their baseball game, she always asks). I went in a few years back after living elsewhere for years, and Sam was so lovely. He also knows my entire family - Mom and Dad go in all the time; Dad is now buying most groceries there; my sister, brother-in-law, and nephews lived in the neighborhood for most of the last years and they travel here weekly now and usually hit up A-1 to get favorites. They have amazing vegetarian and vegan options; the produce is ALWAYS fresh and well-picked (and priced - best price for avocados); the frozen foods are always interesting and tempting; and they have fresh Firebrand bread every day! It's also a really safe space for everyone - kids, adults, all of us. Between the lovely culture he's created, and the insane merchandising skill, and the products... I think Sam might be a magician. Go! You will not be disappointed.
