Clean, tidy, extremely dog friendly, local mom and pop store. Mostly European groceries, beer and wine, as well as coffee, sweets and ice cream. We shop there occasionally (three-four times a year). Can't say much about owner(s) or employees as I never interacted much other than "in out, bing bang" and that's it. I didn't notice or experience any rude or "strange" behavior, neither from customers nor employees, otherwise it would've been one star just like all those other reviews (I rarely give five stars to businesses). Also I noticed during my brief shopping visits that other patrons at that moment were from different cultures, speaking different languages, and from different ethnic backgrounds. Truly a diverse and multicultural environment. Finally to Abigail C.: Maybe you should take your rowdy, sugar hopped-up kids to the park to play or spend more time teaching them good manners. I decided to check it out since it was near the Alameda farmers market. There is a sign on the door advertising their ample dessert selection, which includes gluten free chocolate caramel tartlet, gluten free matcha cake, and gluten free vegan chocolate raspberry cake, as well as cannoli, 3 inch key lime cheesecake, lava cake, and tiramisu. The pistachio cream cake and ricotta and pistachio cake sound good too, so many desserts. They also have Mitchell's ice cream. Although there is a sound effect that goes off when you step in the door so the owner or staff must've known when I came in, and they also looked up when a few other people went in and out of the store, I was standing at the counter for about 5 mins before they realized I was waiting to order, so that was awkward. I realized the register is set up for grocery store and not like a restaurant so there wasn't a way to enter a tip for the drink order when paying with credit card; they only have a jar for cash tips. It says minimum $5 for credit or debit or they will charge you $0.50. The owner/employee is pretty no nonsense in demeanor. I ordered a $5 hot mocha for 16 oz. The prices are pretty good for hot drinks. For some reason, for iced drinks, which have a smaller selection, the price jumps up significantly between the 12oz and 16oz size. You can get up to 20oz size for the hot drinks. The coffee itself was pretty good, though, and I liked the amount of chocolate in it. Not bad for drinks, you just might have to try to speak up to get the owner's attention if they are busy washing dishes or not looking your way / not at the register. read more

We just had the strangest experience. We were browsing in the store and our kids were very gently playing with some candies that had little hands on the end where you could play rock paper scissors. They were not being crazy with them at all. A woman scolded them and said to put them back, which they did immediately. Then a man came over and told us we were very rude and to get out of their store. I have absolutely no idea what we did. I genuinely asked him what we did wrong and he angrily waved us out of the store. We are a multicultural family, so not sure if race played into things. It was a very unnerving experience! read more

What a cool find in Alameda! We were walking back to the car after having dinner close by when we saw Aria Super Market & Bakery. Family wanted to check it out for various reasons. I was interested because I saw ice cream in the sign posted outside. Others in the family were interested because they saw coffee mentioned in the same sign. So we all stepped inside to check out the place. Right away, I spotted their bakery case. Mom saw their groceries at the back of the store so she headed that way. We tried their baklava, and it tasted wonderful!! My sister and brother n'law were fans of the coffee. Also bought some snacks from their market. They carry a diverse selection of European grocery products. I bought a couple of candies to try later. Service was excellent!! Owners are not friendly at all. Why have a business if you don't want people around? Actually seem like they were racist but that can be my opinion. Very rude and when confronted about the rude behavior they gave a very silly reason . Our child dropped a paper (transparent candy wrapper) and we did not see it and he decided that was the issue but instead of telling us acted very rudely. I used to shop at Aria Supermarket back when they were at their old location, and this was my first time visiting their newer, larger space. It's definitely an upgrade--spacious, well-organized, and still full of hard-to-find European goods that I love. A lot of the reviews mention customer service. From what I understand, the owners are from Bosnia, and I think their directness sometimes gets misinterpreted. What some see as "unfriendly" is just a cultural difference in communication. Leave it to overly sensitive Americans to take it personally or, worse, turn it into a conversation about race--which is completely unnecessary and inaccurate. Such a sweet couple that runs this store. They are so lovely to talk to and you can tell the community likes them. And, they have the CUTEST little white dog. There are many different items and delicacies in this market. They also have smoothies, sandwiches, ice cream, dessert and more. Aria Market and Deli is a gem we discovered by chance. They sell Mitchell's ice cream from San Francisco and offer a variety of products from Eastern Europe. The service was excellent and friendly, and the atmosphere is clean and perfect for enjoying a treat. A very cool find! read more

After spending multiple months in Serbia, I was thrilled to find this market on Webster. My partner knew it was there but was holding out on me. A great selection on Eastern European foods. My favorites are Suho Meso, Govedi Prsut, and a bag of Smokis. The first 2 are different dried beef in chunks that I slice real thin.  And Smokis are a puffed peanut tasting snack. Think Chettos without the cheese. They also have ajvar, a pepper based spread and all kinds of pickled veggies.  Ok, let's talk snacks. Lots of cookies and candy and other treats. In the front there is ice cream, a lot of pastries, and you can hang out with a cup of coffee. It's not Safeway or TJ's, but it is the only place I know where I can get some of these authentic foods. read more

I don't usually leave reviews like this, but my friend's recent experience at this coffee shop was deeply disturbing and can't go unaddressed. The owners' behavior was blatantly discriminatory. They refused to touch the plate she had used, immediately sanitized the chairs only after she and her children sat in them (something they didn't do for any other guests), and were cold and unwelcoming from the moment she walked in. It was painfully clear that they treated her and her children differently -- not because of anything they did, but simply because of who they are. That kind of racism has no place in any business, let alone a place where people go to feel safe, relaxed, and part of a community. If you care about fairness, inclusion, and basic human decency, I encourage you to take your business elsewhere. My friend is constantly looking for some Eastern European food. She also lives in MN and has been craving to get back to this place which we went to yesterday. My god, the potato pie here made by someone that works here is just astounding. You can get in the market in the frozen food section. We had some beef sausages and found some plum wine that looks amazing although she said it might taste a bit like ether. Wow, where do I even start? The owners of this shop are completely unprofessional. The staff actually cussed out my friend, which was beyond inappropriate. They also smoke cigarettes way too close to the entrance, making it really unpleasant for customers walking in. On top of that, the food is both overpriced and past its prime--definitely not worth the money. It's obvious they have no idea how to properly run a business. Also, if you're a person of color, be cautious--their attitude toward POC is blatantly hostile. read more

I recently had been working in Alameda and it's great spot to find hidden gems. I found this waking around on a little warm day. I saw they made smoothies and I tried the Mango pineapple which was so refreshing. I also tried a maple pecan bar. What I like most about the store is that they had a large selection of Mitchell's ice cream. I went a couple of times and bought a few different flavors. The owner is so nice and friendly. If you need to stock up on some ice cream or grab a smoothie or pastry, this is the place for someone like me with a sweet tooth. read more

Super happy this shop is here! It's surprisingly roomy and well organized with a solid selection of middle eastern and Eastern European goods, and a well-stocked bakery counter. This place is my version of a danger zone, everywhere I looked, there was something yummy! They have a wide selection of Croatian/Bosnian foods including Milka Chocolates, Spices, coffee, Meats and drinks in their market area. Then they have hot coffees, pastries, Mitchell's ice cream and sandwiches that are made to order! Top that with Cevapi with homemade Bosnian bread and I just found my new favorite market. Included is chopped onions, a large dollop of goat cheese and avjar. Avjar is a roasted red bell pepper spread. Grab a large one to go which contains 10 cevapi's and head to Crab Cove for a picnic. You can also buy the cevaphi frozen so that you can make it at home or take it to the park to barbecue. They also have several varieties of avyar that you can buy by the jar. Note, I was a little hesitant about trying this market out after reading the review about a mixed family. My family is mixed and the owners were very nice and welcoming, they even helped me in choosing what they felt was the better frozen options to try. read more

First time here, and will come again. Owners are really police and kind people, real Bosnians. Their new bigger place that is just across the street from old location, is much nicer and open. They have many different European products (mostly Eastern Europe) and they also serve deserts (pastry, cakes, ice creams, smoothie's), coffee (Turkish, American...) and in few weeks they will serve back popular food (burek, čevapi...). The owners are incredibly kind! After only a few short visits it has become one of my favorite local Coffee Shops! Yes- the market is spacious and well stalked, and is located toward the back- but the Bakery is truly what makes the place shine! They have incredible Baklava, and a TON of unique flavors of Bars, as well as a variety of other fan favorite desserts and pastries! With limited seating in and out doors, this place is calm, quiet, and inviting. I love this little place. My dad was from Russia and many of the foods here are nostalgic for me as they were foods my dad would get at our local European shop when I was a kid. This place is neat, because it's a market with many different Balkan/European food options, including dry/canned foods, snacks, and refrigerated/frozen foods. Then they also have a small deli dessert counter (there may be savory stuff but I am always focused on the sweets!) where you can also order your own smoothie, either from their options or make your own. The lady owner always makes me smoothie and it's delicious every time. She makes me feel like I am welcome there and is always kind to me. I have developed a craving for their Borek, which is in the frozen area. Absolutely delicious phillo-wrapped treat filled with potatoes, or spinach/cheese, or meat. They are addicting. I love that they have snack options, both savory like chips and things, and sweet snacks. Lots of quirky European snacks you really can't find elsewhere. Again, smoothies are on point here. I drove 1 hour from SF Peninsula to come here in need of Serbia foods for friend from Serbia's beach party for her Serbian dog. I wanted to surprise her with home country foods. Both the man and woman who work there were SO helpful for selection since I knew nothing. He indeed knew the favorite liquor and cookies. I had no choice but to trust him. When I handed my friend the chilled Plum Brandy on the beach I could see her face light up. Then when I gave her the cookies that he had selected, once again her face just lit up with recognition, she said these were her favorites. There are limited options for Serbia food but thankfully I made the right choice coming here, well worth the drive across the bridge to be able to give her something special. read more
