If you go to the Crunch Gym in Alameda and then the Bladium -- you'll have a new appreciation for space and room to breathe. The remodeled men's locker room is cool -- most importantly -- it is clean and does not stink. I only use the facility for cardio and free weights. The machines and free weights are probably 30+ years old (seriously), but they work and I like the old school steel plates. The entire facility has been under construction and it looks like they're going to make the facility like something on par with the NFL Combine's fitness facilities. I learned during the pandemic that new weights and weight machines cost a fortune, but I'm hopeful they will update the equipment. Most importantly, I hope they extend the hours of operation on the weekends. Indeed, their hours of operation should be 5 a.m. to 10 p.m. (minimum) every day. Oh, there is always free/available parking and the gym manager is extremely responsive/professional. Bottom line: this gym has the space and location to become the best fitness facility on the East Bay -- but they must extend their hours and spend a small fortune on new weights/weight machines. The images I have included with this review are dated, but they give you a good idea of the size of this place and show the degree to which they are re-doing the place!

So many memories, like winning a state championship and rock climbing with my friends. The Bladium was an experience: to drink, to play sports, to work out, to have fun. I recently came back after finishing college, just to find the main football field and a majority of the weight room gone to pickleball. At first, I did not mind, however, it feels like the only people who come in are pickleball players. Its sad to see my friend's old family business being made into a pickleball center. Even the new company's logo shows where their priority is at. Heartbreaking to see. I will always remember the sounds the floorboards made.

I am new to joining a gym and as a senior, I hoped for a positive outcome, and not feel intimidated or like I "didn't belong" I felt very welcome, I've taken a few classes that have been beneficial for me. One is for posture & strengthening. The instructor is fabulous, knowledgeable and makes our workouts fun. I thoroughly enjoined a class called "just breathe" very relaxing and uses the "Alexander Technique" but now the wonderful instructor is on maternity leave and we look forward to her return. There is currently a sub but I haven't had a chance to go back. I'm learning to use the equipment at my own pace. There are several rooms with different equipment and I never feel pressured by someone else needing the one I may be using. I bring my own container of disinfectant wipes, since not everyone is conscientious about wiping their equipment after they're done using it. And I'm fine with using my own, even though each room does provide a spray bottle and small towels are available at the front desk. I bring my own mat to the classes, but they have them at the front desk if you need to borrow one. The best for me personally is the use of the indoor pool ! I have never enjoyed using a pool anywhere until I joined this gym. I've tried two different classes. One is Gentle Aqua & another one is Aqua Cardio. Both instructors have different times depending on the day of the week . Both ladies are fabulous! The hours suit my needs perfectly. The ladies locker room is always immaculate. Shout out to Maria who is there Monday - Friday She keeps the locker room, freshly clean, always wiping down the wet floors as we come back from using the pool. She is very kind and welcoming, and we appreciate her so much! And lastly, the Manager, Edward was very kind and welcoming. He gave me a nice tour of the gym. I was a bit uncertain that joining a gym was the right thing for me to do. He gave me information on trainers that they work with to help me along with my journey. My friend and I joined together & we are pleased with our decision to join. He remembers our names and greets us personally every time we see him. Overall we recommend this facility, especially as a Senior citizen, we truly feel we belong

My non-negotiables in identifying a trainer were someone who knew the different muscle groups and variations of exercises, made me feel safe, was patient, would challenge me, and supported my fitness goals. Impact Fitness and the trainers, Liam and Ed, embody all those characteristics! On my first day, I could not lift a trap bar because of my form and general weakness in my knees. I was also unable to jump up and land on both of my feet or even crouch down in a squat without it being super uncomfortable. Each day, Liam was incredibly patient with me and celebrated all the little wins with me as my knee progressively got stronger. Liam also encouraged me to seek physical therapy and took time to incorporate some of my physical therapy exercises into the exercises that I was doing in the training. Fast forward to August 2025, I can easily do four sets of 192 lbs on the trap bar and maxed at 205 lbs. I can now squat while holding a 40lb dumbbell, and be confident in the strength of my knees. I also learned how to do different variations of different exercises to accommodate my height and relative flexibility. If you are wondering if this is the place for you, I would say BIG YES if: 1) You want to be in a safe and empowering gym where folks encourage you to push harder but also celebrate the big wins 2) New to strength training and do not know where to start 3) Have goals to improve muscle weakness and learn how different exercises work different muscle groups 4) Looking for a space that does not have "gym bro" culture that is centered on supporting people reaching their optimal health Overall, I love this place and am so grateful to both Liam and Ed for being excellent trainers. I included a video of the inside of the gym, which is always kept clean, and they provide complimentary sweat towels, a filtered water station, and bathrooms. I truly believe this is the best space to practice consistency because it truly promotes community and encouragement. This is such a diverse group of people on different stages of fitness. Safe space to get familiar with equipment. Extremely pleased with my progress and excited to continue!!! Thank you Impact!!!

I walked in for my 12:00pm appointment and the place was pretty much empty, aside from the attendant at the desk who happen to be who would be stretching me. Estrella introduced herself, asked me to sign my waiver, and walked me over to the assessment tablet. Before laying down to start my stretches, I asked that she rewipe the table (can never be too careful) and she did it without any issue. Thank you for that. She was so easy going and very informative about muscle groups, necessary stretches needed to loosen me up, etc. Once we got into it, the stretching was amazing (as was the conversation) and the information she gave me about my own body. She was putting me in stretches that I've never done and when it was all over, my body felt so good. Now things I didn't like: The place being empty made me waaaaaaay more comfortable because the openness can be a bit off-putting for some of the stretches/conversations. Shortly after getting started another customer came in and it went from peaceful to hearing his conversation about his body with the other attendant. I also didn't like that Estrella had to keep stopping to help walk-ins asking about services. That was a bit distracting during my session. The massage "waiting" chair being stationed right next to the table where my stretch was taking place was a bit of an issue too. When other clients walked in, she offered them the chair, but it was so close to us. It made me a little uncomfortable and a little more reserved in conversation. Nevertheless, it was a good experience. I was able to get in on an introductory price of $79.00. After my stretch was done, Estrella spoke to me about the benefits of continuing my stretches and about purchasing membership/subscription options - all at a higher price. I honestly believe $79.00 is the perfect price for this service, especially in this economy. The membership/subscription options are pretty expensive and why I said it "should" be a regular thing, but feels like more of a luxury that you must decide whether you need or not. Overall, it was a great experience I'm still on the fence on whether I'll buy a membership/subscription, but I have recommended quite a few people try it out.
