My new dental home. I walked into this place not knowing what to expect but after my visit I felt pretty confident that I chose the right place. I was seen pretty quick and from the time I was in the back it seemed like things just flowed beautifully. Dr John was very thorough and explained my plan of care to make me aware of what to expect. He also asked if I had any questions. He made sure I didn't feel judged but heard. I wish I remembered the young lady's name that assisted him. She too was great. DeKoch, DDS Susie R. DeKoch, DDS I've been with Dr. Dirk for about 20 years starting when he was in another location off N. New Braunfels just a few blocks away. Let me tell you, there is a night and day difference from their old location to this brand new build (it's actually been a couple of years now). Since there is a new page for the new location, I guess I need to make a new review too. As I said in my last review and I'll repeat it here "Dr. DeKoch is a good honest fair man, doctor, and business owner. Top dentist in SA. He is the only dentist that has never used gas on me... and I haven't needed it!..." Rebecca Murphy is my "go to" dental hygienist. All the staff tho is always amazing, kind, and friendly. Fabulous place. My entire family goes here. I was the only one not going and finally joined in and saw the benefits right away. I kept biting my lip and it just kept getting worse. Dr. D (Jr.) shaved down one of my fangs and it took the problem away. read more

Massage chairs. Yep. For real. No I'm not confused. Yes this pertains to the review for a dental office. initially you aren't aware it's an upstairs suite but no worries they have an elevator as this brand new building is state of the art and every way. When you walk in through the door there is a very kush lounging area that I presume is meant for waiting but feels more like a place to be waited on. And finally there's a office with enough common sense to put a dang table in the waiting section for people filling out forms. The genius behind this cannot be understated. The receptionist is a very sweet lady who also tries to help with checkouts, though she is still learning so be patient with her in regards to billing questions. Let me emphasize the receptionist job is not to look up or confirm your bill or insurance coverage. So she might not have an answer for you or may need to confirm with somebody else who handles more of the billing aspect. I was called back by an assistant who was very pleasant and had my x-rays done, which was in a very small but nice area of x-ray booths lined up between the rows of dental chair office areas. We moved on to the dental chair room to meet the hygienist for my cleaning and I was sat in a chair that had massage capabilities! (See I told you it was relevant). My hygienist was very nice, thorough, and kind enough to send the assistant to the front to confirm pricing for items not covered under my hundred percent health check up appt I scheduled. I was given a very thorough cleaning and only hit a sensitive spot in two areas (those with plaque at or slightly below gum line so it's a logical conclusion it wouldn't feel good to have someone chase after those) otherwise she was very good and I did not leave feeling like a porcupine had its way with my gums. (Which is also did in part to having healthy gums that don't bleed from the slightest pressure, and in part by having a professional who knows what they're doing and does it right). The fluoride flavors, of which there are many, was a great little laugh after finding out that fluoride is apparently considered for 14 and under by insurance but not by dentists, yet all the flavors are geared more towards children. (Or maybe you had to be there). Afterwards meeting with one of the doctors going over my x-rays I was given a reasonable timeline to expect work to be done for restorative efforts, and referred to speak to the front desk regarding pricing and insurance coverage (which makes senseAnd it would be very unreasonable of anyone to expect their dentist to know the pricing of your payments from insurance, that's not their job). I had a small scare whereas in the receptionist learning to help with check out did the math wrong on my restorative costs after insurance, but she was very sweet made sure to double-check with the ladies who handle that work and was able to correct the math so that I came out with a reasonable total to handle my upcoming appointment work. I was scheduled promptly, offered an appointment card, and had my daughter's insurance information taken down to be confirmed so they could contact me to let me know if her coverage is accepted within their company. (And while this sucks this is part of children under a certain age having visual/dental included in a good health coverage whereas adults are not and have to get a separate coverage, Boo.) They had a small drink bar counter inside the "office" door where you are called back, which looked to be self-serve but I'm not 100% sure as I came in with a drink and did not ask for any beverages. Overall I very much enjoyed my visit, the staff, the setup, and with insurance the pricing is reasonable and I look forward to having a happy mouth without cavities. read more

Dr. De Koch has been my dentist for several years and has always been kind and caring. Some of his office staff, on the other hand, are not. Dr. De Koch had agreed to let me make payments for a procedure that I would not otherwise have had done. I made payments as I could, yet the office staff continued to call and send text messages hounding me, in addition to sending monthly bills (all in less than 6 months). The worst part was when I went in for my next cleaning and checkup (100% covered by insurance and still less than 6 months after the work was done): the person who checked me in was extremely rude, told me I needed to make a payment before they would see me (which they did not say to me the day before when they called me to remind me of my appointment), and when I told her that I had an agreement with Dr. De Koch and would talk to him about it, she told me he wasn't there (which I also was not told ahead of my appointment with him), and proceeded to argue with me and tell me I needed to speak with the office manager immediately to pay my bill. I was incredibly mortified to be treated this way, especially in front of other patients, despite the agreement made with Dr. De Koch. I have no desire to go back after the way I was treated. An uninformed, discourteous office staff can ruin a great practice. read more

Extremely poor chair side manner and the youngest dentist - the daughter - insulted my physical appearnce in saying I was a "short guy mostly with big teeth and an edge up. I don't want to be a chase." This is simply bc she believes shes the Claudia Shiffer of the practice when in fact she just your average dentist (hopefully a decent one given the fact that she excreciones such poor judgemet in treating patients). The hygienist was incredibly ignorant and rude. What's worse? Their hypocritical Christian-based clinic gimmick is easily discernible to those of true faith. Very, very sad how they've ruined themselves so do yourself a favor and don't be sucked into their vortex. read more

First off, I wanted to give ZERO stars, but it was not an option. The main reason for my review today, is (obviously) because my wife and I were ripped off by this shady dental office known as Alamo Heights Dental. The primary issue is the fact that my wife was told not only by the dentist performing her crown procedure, but by an administrative staffer, that her (1) insurance covered most of the procedure, (2) advised to pay "x" amount, and (3) the misinformation turned out to be untrue. My wife was ill-advised/misinformed that her payment was sufficient to cover the entire procedure. We knew this particular office was in our network and they advised my wife that she was "good to go." Now, my wife is super smart. She would NEVER have agreed to have services rendered, had she known that the insurance (in fact) was on a waiting period for her, as well as the exact amount (or at least if a semi-accurate estimate) would have been provided to her. Unfortunately, Alamo Heights Dental denies any responsibility to us, the paying customer, and instead blamed my human resources dept. and my insurance provider. I have NEVER had this issue with any other dental office. My wife and I feel violated and the fact that the dentist and admin. staff misadvised her is flat out wrong. I have been Dr John's patient since 2014. He is the best dentist I have ever had...bar none. I am tremendously anxious going to the dentist and really cannot imagine anything I hate more than the drill. But he has handled my dental issues exceptionally well. Last spring I broke off the inside portion of a molar one night...totally unnerving. I called his number and he immediately called me back. We were set to meet next morning first thing but he told me repeatedly to call him right away that night if pain started to ramp up and he would meet me at the office to fix it. I am a patient for life...no joke. read more

Made a huge mistake going to this office. Called and let them know I had military dental insurance. They mentioned they were out of network and that I would most likely have a small copay. Not normally an issue as I rarely go in network and normally end up with a bill of 20-30%. Except this time I was billed over $200 for a routine exam and that is AFTER my insurance paid their part. Absolutely ridiculous. Do your diligence before making an appointment here as you know for sure this office either doesn't care or already knows up front exactly what they're doing. read more

Another dentist elsewhere told me i had 4+ cavities that needed work costing me over $100, here i was told i did not have any and maybe only two that could possible develop into cavities ie. no further work necessary at moment. read more

The DeKoch family dental practice is a state of the art dentist's office with a small town feel. The dentists are thorough and excellent at what they do....the highest level of professionalism and skill are what you get. They are also kind and caring. It really is a family practice- father and children all dentists- they care about their work and their practice. Besides the fact that the dentists are incredible let's not forget that every staff member at the office and every hygienist is also highly trained, very professional, and pleasant. This office has it going on. If you need an excellent dentist, look no further. I have had preventative care, my son had an issue with a tooth, my husband has been through the implant process, all experiences have been handled with the utmost care. My Aunt from Canada was visiting and had a dental emergency, and they saw her right away and took such great care of her! We feel so lucky to have found such a great dentist, worth their weight in gold! read more

I am so blessed to have Dr. Daddy DeKoch. I have been with Dr. DeKoch, before his children joined him, for 18 years. Dr. Dekoch is such a caring doctor. He listens to his patients and respects what they have to say. When I was 8 years old, I was molested by a dentist. I had a very bad phobia of male doctors and dentists. I explained this to Dr. Dekoch when I first met him. I asked him to always make sure he had a female in the room with him when every he worked on my teeth. He honored my request. He would always make sure there was a female in the room with him. He explained everything he was doing. He always checked to make sure I was okay. He always took the time to get to know my family. If I needed dental work done by another dentist, Dr. DeKoch made sure it was someone who would handle me gently and respect my wishes. He would check on me to see if I was okay, to see if there was anything I needed, and to make sure the doctor he referred me to met with my approval. Dr. Dekoch is a very rare doctor. When my husband and I started our family, Dr. DeKoch made sure this pregnant mommy got the best care. I am so blessed to have him as my doctor. I pray God let's him live a long time and keep his strength up so he can work on my teeth for the rest of his life. He introduced me to his children, so that if God takes Dr. Daddy DeKoch home before I am ready, his children will be a great substitute for him. I love you Dr. Daddy DeKoch and family. My father-in-love, who is also a dentist, is very pleased with Dr. DeKoch taking care of my teeth. If I could give Dr. DeKoch and family, 100 stars, I would. My teeth will last my lifetime thanks to the awesome dentistry team I have working on my teeth. I guess I have said enough. If I keep going on, I will run out of space.
