Fun activity. This was one of my birthday gifts and a cool experience. Everything from check in to return went by smoothly. I'm sure the man at the desk gets tired of reexplaining every safety measure needed cause he didn't seem that enthusiastic about it. We also had no idea what he said because he pointed to the map at the desk while we were not in close proximity. Trying new experiences together is a great way to strengthen your bond with your partner, so we decided to go on the Love Bird tour with Alamo Helicopter Tours. To get started, we drove to the Southside to Stinson Field and entered the historic terminal. It was no hassle to check in. We walked to the tarmac and boarded the helicopter, which seats four -- so there were us two, the pilot, and an empty seat. When we took off for downtown San Antonio, I'm afraid of heights, so I had to hold on to the grab bar for a little bit, but then the view took my breath away. We got to see landmarks in downtown San Antonio, like the Tower of the Americas, the Central Library, and the Alamo. The view west towards the sunset was beautiful. It was a smooth ride except for a few moments when we passed over some blacktop (the highway) and then there's an updraft. The pilot narrated the tour, answered our questions, and explained things like how fast do helicopters fly. Soon we would like to come back and do one of the longer tours, maybe to see the sunset or to explore more of the Hill Country. read more

Definitely do it! We did the shuttle to F1. So worth it. An easy drive to the heliport, snacks, mimosas, a dog to pet. On the way out, you sit in the shade, in a chair, have a beverage, and watch the traffic while you wait (if you're early) for your chopper out. The way to do it! read more

Great experience all-around!! Scheduling my flight online was smooth, signing the waivers via email link was easy and the check-in was quick. The guy at the front desk (sorry, I didn't catch your name) was friendly. We walked inside the lobby just as he was walking in from the tarmac & he greeted us by our first names (which means he looked at my reservation before he walked the people ahead of us out to their flight). I'm originally from a small town where everybody knew everybody... so, for me, it's a nice feeling knowing that someone actually looked at your name on the schedule. Right outside the terminal are benches -- I sat there before & after my flight (for about an hour), watching aircraft take off & land. We flew in a Robinson R44 (for those aviation geeks like me out there)! The capacity for this tour is 3 passengers -- so 4 people total with the pilot. The flight: "Alamo & More" was the ride I purchased (great deal on Groupon). 15 minutes goes by very quick but we saw so much! Alex was an awesome pilot -- informative, friendly and very personable. He asked questions about us and also answered the zillion questions we had for him!! He pointed on elephants on the ground at the zoo, looped around the Tower of the Americas twice, flew over the Quarry Market, showed us the Alamo & several other missions. Alex made us feel safe as he flew the helicopter all around the city -- we would definitely fly with him again! Thank you for your service in the USMC, Alex. We booked our tour a few days ahead and everything went off without a hitch. It was a great experience! We went on a 10:30am tour August 10th. From checking in with the young man at the desk to the pilot himself, they were great. The pilot and the man who checked us in offered to take photos for us which we took them up on. The man who checked us in was very specific on instructions for our safety which was reassuring. The pilot gave us a full tour of the city and its history explaining everything along the way. I booked this helicopter tour as a surprise for our 25th wedding anniversary, and it was the best thing that I could've ever done. I took my first flying lesson here at Stinson Airfield in 1977, so it was great to be back; so much has changed. My wife didn't have a clue until we met our pilot Alex. From lift-off to touch-down, it was an extraordinary, exciting adventure. Alex took the time to explain the instruments, engine start-up to shut-down. He showed us the key spots in downtown San Antonio; although we live in San Antonio and know downtown S.A., this perspective from above was the best. Hovering at about 500 feet, zooming by the Tower of the Americas; we did that twice. We were so close to the Tower dining area that we could see the people waving back at us.
