I needed a truck to haul some items and Alamo had a great price for the day. After a quick search on the various apps, Alamo had a special price and I used my key cash from Expedia. I reserved the vehicle online the day prior and when I arrived it was ready for pickup. There was no line when I arrived. Very nice. In between flights helps. My son dropped me off at OAJ and there was an attendant at the counter who was very nice to provide assistance. After the typical sharing of information and multiple signatures/initials I was handed the keys and where to pick up my vehicle. She also explained the drop off procedures. She was very nice, helpful, and efficient. Returning the vehicle was a breeze. Just find a parking spot in the designated rental return area for your specific agency and return the keys inside to the counter or drop box next to baggage claim. I have never had a bad rental car experience at OAJ. The location is perfect for me. It's not far from the house. A lot closer than going into Jacksonville. We've rented vehicles from this location for many years. We'll continue to use this rental agency and location. Recommend! read more

To start the 24 hour customer service was great, this is about the support at the airport. We had to delay our pickup due to flight being delayed but we were guaranteed that someone would be there at 11pm for us to pick up our vehicle. After we landed at 11pm and went to the counter no one was there, tried for an hour to contact someone with no luck. We were given a number by customer support and were told it would allow us to talk to someone from the airport but no one answered. So we were left without a car in the middle of nowhere. Luckily Hertz was open and had a large vehicle like we were needing but it ended up choosing us twice as much but we had no choice. To end my review we found out the the employee decided to leave at 1045pm bc they were bored. read more

One star because we got a car. The rental agent had a terrible attitude and refused to use our credit/debit card as a credit card insisting their system would not recognize any credit/debit card as credit. She said they didn't have the car we reserved and down graded us from s minivan to an SUV but didn't reduce the price (we booked weeks ago) because prices were increased for the holiday! When we finally did get a car it was FILTHY and scratched. The pics don't show it as bad as it looked because of sun glare. There was trash in it, the outside looked like someone had been off-roading in it! The seats were covered in debris, we had to find a car wash before we could feel comfortable! They had told my fiancé that there were vehicles present and she had called multiple times before she made a reservation. Then last second a lady had called her and told her they had no cars, and preceded to hang the phone up on her abruptly. As she called back, she was still snobby to her about the situation they put her in. Why make these falls promises to people and be a disgusting person on a situation you have made? Absolutely don't recommend, big waste of time, and horrible customer service. read more

Just like my previous contact in person while getting vehicle the customer service was excellent. Then, there was a problem....they offer a jeep luxury for additional cost....but it wasn't coming...30 minutes later they said it's getting refuel....boy how long does it take to refuel. Have in mind my flight from Los Angeles was delayed. They gave my car to someone else they claimed. But they do have luxury car for more money. Huh!!!!??? I agreed I like Jeeps anyway. After a while I asked they they refuel in town. She said no here....30+ minutes later jeep finally arrived. Yes, pretty woman did discount a little money but if only they can be honest and tell client the vehicle hasn't arrived yet...or whatever the real issue was rather than refueling. Anyhow....it sucked my entire trip from delayed, missed 2nd flight due to their neglect on to no car on time to missed departing flight. I need patience. read more

Small rental car counter located steps away from the baggage carousel in this small airport. They stay open until flights arrive even if running late, as was the case on my visit. They don't open for the early flights however(at least on Saturday), but don't worry about returning even if your flight is before they open. I can vouch for following their instructions and receiving the accurate receipt via email later the same day. The lady at the counter was familiar with government rentals and very friendly and helpful, as this whole process couldn't have gone any smoother/easier. The price was right, as I'm required to choose the lowest bidder, which was them. Absolutely no complaints or issues with/during my weeklong rental, so I'd recommend using them. read more

I used CarRental.com and the website was great. That all changed as soon as I arrived at Alamo at the airport. There employe at the count was unhelpful and rude. I'd post her name but she wasn't wearing a name tag. When I asked why I was being over charged from what my online price was she just walked to the back then returned a few mins later with a form and said I could take it or leave. I made a few calls and a email was sent verifying my rental and the price. When I returned the car the lady who was working was very pleasant and greeting me with a smile. She did apologize for the other employees behavior. read more

This place was a lifesaver. We found out the day-of that another major rental company didn't have a vehicle available for us. Really, we had reservations, and you couldn't tell us until an hour before pick up? Anyways, we called Alamo and got directed to a centralized booking agent, not someone local at OAJ. I was worried about a similar situation, but the agent confirmed availability and hours for the local OAJ office. We got there, and there was one person running the counter for about 3 different companies. But he was super efficient! He knew exactly what he was doing, asked the pertinent, pointed questions, and got us in and out in under 10 minutes. This other company we rented from in Jacksonville was not nearly as busy and had multiple agents working, and it's taken them approximately 30 minutes from arrival until you actually get the keys. We'll only be renting from Alamo from now on. read more

Currently on hold with Alamo because the car that we are driving has been invaded by ants. We picked the car up at 5pm this afternoon and It is now 9pm and we cannot get ahold of anyone to address this issue. It took us every bit of 45 minutes to get the car after the representative left us to go and clean the car. Not a happy customer at all. read more

If I could give this negative stars I would.Will never book with them again! My husband just returned from his USMC deployment overseas and showed up at the rental location at OAJ airport NC, whom I booked reservations with and there were ZERO cars available despite my reservation!! So his friend who has still not seen his family had to drive my husband to the pickup location, then had to drive him to the next town to his hotel instead of going home to his family!! I called 800# and there are no cars in a 60 mile radius and they offered NO help. What's worse is the lady at the desk at OAJ offered him no help, was extremely rude to him, and didn't even apologize for the incovenience. She just said there are no cars and refused to check around. Is this how you treat your customers and the military who certainly give you PLENTY of business with their lifestyle???? We travel quite often and rent cars one or two times a month. This was the worst experience we have ever had at any rental agency anywhere. We were in town for our son's graduation from the USMC school of infantry and we had reserved a car online before we flew to Jacksonville. When we arrived at the rental desk I greeted the lady at the counter and said, hello I have a reservation and gave my name. She snapped back, When did you make your reservation!? First I was surprised at her tone and then the nasty look she was giving me. I told her I had made the reservation earlier today and gave her the reservation confirmation number. She again snapped back we we don't have any cars! I asked her how can I make a reservation and they take the reservation and there are no cars? She gets really loud now and says i have cars but not enough for you? I look around and there is only one other couple in the entire area and they just received a car from this nasty person. I asked, "If you have cars and I am here with a reservation why is my reservation not good enough to get a car?" Now she is almost yelling "I don't have enough cars for all the reservations and some of these reservations were made a long time ago!!" I was still amazed at how angry she is and asked one more time."I am here now with a reservation and you will not give me a car because some other people may come by later for a car?" Now she is freaking out and yells. "I don't have any cars for you and no one else does at this airport!!" I back away from the counter and just try to process how this hostile person was put in a position to work with customers. After a few minutes I went to Avis which was right next to Alamo and asked the gentleman at the counter if he had any cars for rent and he does. By the time we finish the paperwork we are walking to get our car and the couple that had rented the car at Alamo before I walked up were back at the counter to tell them the car was dirty inside and out and unaceptable. The lady was all over them saying if she knew it dirty she would just get a paper towel and wipe off the windows. The older gentlemen looked at me in astonishment, then the angriest lady in the world stormed off outside and started up a cigarette and called somone on her cell phone. The man with the dirty car and his wife came up to my wife and I shaking their heads. I said she is a real peach isn't she? He had grabbed a business card and was going to call and complain about her and the car. I asked to see the card and took a photo of it. I too plan to let Alamo know about the angry, bitter and nasty front line employee they have greeting customers or former customers of Alamo on November 5th at the Jacksonville NC airport. . read more

I was harassed and ripped off by Alamo. They did not do a walk around before we took the car or after we dropped it off. We dropped the car off and several days later received a call accusing us of damaging the car. KRISTEN the manager would not talk to me about it and sent me to their damage recovery unit and no one from there would talk to me either. It was all so sketchy. I disputed the claim and finally talked to someone who was rude and condescending. They told me it is not Alamo's policy to do walk arounds.... they finally sent me documentation of the last time the car was examined it was 6 months before when it was owned by a different rental car company... They also tried to bill me for a cigarette burn in the seat... none of us smoke. A very rude woman kept calling and telling me that I needed to take responsibility for my actions as if she was my mother, and didn't care if I didn't actually damage the car since I signed a contract... they actually could never find the contract I "signed." I guess this post is long enough without talking about the up sale, extra fees and hassle it was to get an active military discount they promised... Don't use Alamo and especially not this one! read more

We booked a car from here for 4 days, the receipt we received when booking online was $106.00, the rental was for my brother who is a marine in NC and 24 years old, i called after booking online to make sure there wouldn't be additional fees for being under 25. I was put on hold for a few minuets then told there was no additional fee and the total would be only $106. When my brother picked the car up, he was charged $330!! They made him pay for additional insurance when we already paid upon booking, also a $25 a day for being under $25! I called the day my brother picked it up and was told they can try to take the fees off, when my brother dropped it off they took the fees for the insurance off as he had proof of already paying for it but they refused to take the $25/day off when it is what i was told. I called and spoke to a employee and also the manager. The manager told me there was no way they could take the $25 a day off when there were no exceptions to that rule. The girl that my brother dropped the car off with told my brother if he books through usaa that he can avoid the young renter fee, so when i mentioned this to the manager who told me there were no exceptions, he then agreed that there was this exception. Anyhow many hours later and very frustrating being lied to about what i was going to be charged, DO NOT BOOK with this Alamo, very unprofessional and will charge you 3 times as much as you are told regardless what your booking looks like. Worst customer service ever. I show up after being assured they had the car i rented. I flew in to see my husband on leave and I get stranded at the airport because they overbooked by 200%. they would not offer me any alternative and basically told me it was not their problem. they were rude and did not have the services they promised me. The ONLY reason I put one star is because there's not an option to put negative stars. DO NOT RENT FROM HERE. My sisters car broke down and is in the shop. She went on Hotwire and reserved AND fully paid for her rental. I drove her 30 minutes down to pick up the rental at 11:30 am. When she went in, alicia (front desk girl) got an attitude pretty much immediately. She told my sister that she couldn't rent with a debit card which is says you can online. She then asked my sister for a pay stub and an utility bill or a flight itinerary. Obviously we lived in town and don't carry bills and pay stubs. Hello...it's 2016 everything is online. So she said whatever I'll fill out the paper work now and have them her I.d. To make a copy of. Then at 8:30pm last night we go to pick up the car. We get in there and Rachael (the attendant at the time) says she needed to fill the info again, my sister was given hassle again about the debit card again, and then the attendant said her license was expired and gave her attitude about that. My sister had previously renewed her license online but they wouldn't accept that either. So once again my sister said okay since this is already paid for can I put my sister down as the authorized driver and she takes the rental but I take her car. They said okay. I came in and was told the card had to have my name on it to match my license. I said okay here's my debit card and the gave me attitude and grief about that AGAIN. We were told that the reservation (THAT WAS FULLY PAID FOR) would be given away. We are currently online with their customer service line. Will update once this is resolved. Overall the sarcasm, attitude, and snide remarks from the people we've talked to so far was ridiculous. We have done nothing but follow the rules and were courteous the ENTIRE time. We live in a military town, had they treated a service member like that, all hell would've broken loose. DO NOT RENT FROM HERE. read more

Very similar situation as another previously mentioned in this low rent dumpster of reviews. I was told that we had not pre-paid. When I tried to show that it was pre-paid, all I got was blank stares and the standard "well there's nothing I can do" when I asked, pleaded for something more, I was yet again told "there's nothing I can do" finally after prying information like it was classified, I was simply told to call the third party I booked through and work it through them. I did. And they told me... That my reservation was pre-paid. I explain to them that the brilliant woman at this counter is saying that she doesn't see that and there's nothing she can do. Well the third party rep talked to my ever so helpful counter worker, and she tells him she doesn't see that confirmation and there's absolutely nothing she can do. Third party rep pulls in an Alamo rep on the phone, now there's 4 total people involved in this situation. Alamo rep get on phone with counter Alamo rep, explains my reservation is pre-paid. She tells him there's nothing she can do.... Have I mentioned her attitude yet? It's as if this job she somehow gained is somehow way below her while also being incredibly hard for her to comprehend how to do. So... Finally we get counter reps manager involved (after much resistance from the counter rep) and she comes out, she speaks to my conference call of representatives, begrudgingly agrees to stick to the terms we had originally paid for, and let's me know I can now wait an hour for my car. I was finally told that the problem was that we wanted to adjust our pick up times for the car and that messed everything up.... Which I can understand and is totally fine, these computer systems can be finicky and weird things can make stuff go wrong. The issue is the massive lack of any kind of willingness to assist me to solve the problem, based on what they found (after 40 minutes) the problem to be, is something that if the original counter rep had gotten off her cell phone long enough to see, would have been solved in maybe 90 seconds, and that's taking into account how incredibly incompetent she is. It just takes the smallest amount of effort. -10 stars for the counter rep, Latoya. She should consider herself lucky that she ever got any job, ever, based on the work ethic I saw today. 1 star for the manager, for doing the absolute minimum expected of something in a position of authority at an airport car rental desk. read more

I'm sitting here as we speak.. I rented the car the same time I bought my tickets, and my flight times changed last minute. I show up an hour and a half ahead of the scheduled time and without any politeness and customer service I just get told "you have your pick up for 11." So I explain my flights have changed and I also tell her I need to adjust my times for Sunday. So she doesn't say anything just types away.. Then says it'll be $120. Uh.. No.. I prepaid. She lets me know that it doesn't say I prepaid.. So I show her the email SHOWING I PREPAID. She's like "there's nothing I can do"... Um what? So I let her know I'm not paying you when I already paid.. We had to call Hotwire since we booked through them. They confirmed it was paid.. They call Alamo who also says it's been paid.. So the only person who says it's not paid is this worker who didn't even lift a finger to do any kind of investigation or work. Now we have the representative on the phone, ON OUR PHONE... With the girl behind the counter. And she still refuses to accept that we paid for it even though we have a receipt and other people telling her it's been confirmed.
