Dr. Sampson told me I needed cataracts removed in both eyes. They scheduled surgery for the right eye the first week in November, 2025 and a second surgery for the left eye the first week of December. The office called and canceled both dates. They did not explain why or set up new dates. They said they would call me to re-schedule. It's going on four months now and still no communication. I have Glaucoma and Cataracts in both eyes that need to be monitored and treated on a regular basis. It is not acceptable to be left hung out to dry for months. Very professional and expert care. We are lucky to have Dr.Sampson practicing here. The office experience was certainly no worse than any other physician's office. I understand the need for patience given the challenge of handling unexpected delays. I have good friends who are physicians. Dr. Sampson went out of his way to be cordial and receptive to any of my questions and concerns. He gave me his personal cellphone number to call him directly while my cataract surgery was healing. My surgery has been cancelled twice. I understand the problem, which is not the doctor's fault. I've tried talking to the office staff and they give different answers. I went in, after my surgery was cancelled and asked to speak to the scheduler and that didn't happen. I called two weeks ago, left a message for the scheduler and she hasn't returned my calls. Now the phone is ringing busy. It's just very frustrating. read more

Dr. Sampson is the best ophthalmologist my wife and I have seen, here and in Germany ! My wife had a scare re flashes she saw in her eye. He and his staff made time to see us right away. He meticulously checked on everything, has best technology, and at a late hour in the day took ample time to explain to us what's going on, and what the treatment would be. He invited us to look at the computer screen with him, and showed us all the detail of the inner eye. He and his staff had a soothing and calm presence which felt very reassuring. I would say, these qualities are not necessarily common nowadays. The appointment happened at the Medical Center on Parallel Dr. in Lakeport. The office was pleasant, spacious, comfortable seating, guest WiFi, and staff adjusted the lighting to where my wife was accommodated when she took the pupil dilating drops. I want to honor and appreciate the commitment Dr. Sampson has to help us. Thank you Doc !! read more

I waited 2 months for my first appointment. i arrived 20 minutes early it's 3 other patients. The office was dark with a sign that they after lunch. I Had been first in line, I gave my id and insurance info. I was given a restaurant beeper and told to sit in the cold hallway , until the beeper went off. It was lik being kicked to the hallway in high school, except everyone was very 60. They beeped the other 3 people and I remained. went in to ck if my beeper worked. there were 4 assistants behind the counter. One handed me my ID a and insurance no. She advised me they did not accept my insurance. perhaps they could have advised me before I drive an hour to get here. i never met Dr Sampson. However , while I was waiting, a paitient came in loudly complaining about a botched surgery. They told him he would have to wai 4 months to see the Dr. Perhaps, I as all just as well! read more

Outdated ophthalmology exam, inept patient handling, and poor front-desk management. This office can exist here only because the locality is severely doctor-deprived in all specialties, so in medical care, far too often it's underwhelming. Sampson's accreditations are distinctly suspect concerning medical expertise and insight into eye disease condition and treatment. Believe the low scores: Don't go here. read more

My doctor was unavailable to see me for a painful eye injury (a tear) and I called many ophthalmologists in town. No one would see me because I wasn't established. I called Dr. Sampson's office and his kind wife agreed to see me within a few hours. They gave me a discounted self pay rate because they are out of network with my carrier. I received excellent medical care (not one, but two thorough exams ) and left feeling so much better. I would give this office an A Plus and I will surely be back for my eye care needs. I went to Dr. Sampson for a second opinion. I took an appointment first in the morning because I my time is important. There was a sign on the check in counter saying we respect our patients... Something like live with when we get to you. Like his time is more valuable than mine. There was no seating in the waiting room! Chairs were in the hall!!!! It was colder there. I learned 4 people were scheduled for the 8:00 appointment. I went to the desk at 8:20 and said I only wait 30 minutes. I was brought in at 8:23. I mentioned to the assistant I only wait 30 minutes because my time is as valuable as anyone else's. She didn't acknowledge my statement. I said again. After a few more questions from her, she asked me to leave, they wouldn't assist me! Knowing it was a one time deal, I wouldn't be bothering them again. But no! As I walked out, the two that were taken in before me were sitting in the inner hall waiting! Doctors are not more important and should not make the patient wait unreasonable wait times. I understand and emergencies, but this was a usual way of treating patients. read more

Very positive experience. I purchased a new pair of glasses at this office--affordable prices, excellent customer service. My going to a doctor's office was an interesting choice (usually, I think Lenscrafters), but I was new to Lakeport and the location was convenient...and while I was accustomed to a doctor's offices pricing their glasses high, that was not the case here. For all of his years of experience, my family expects more regard for his patients. No matter what insurance a patient uses, the staff are instructed to bill for a portion of the eye exam AFTER the exam has completed. So a patient is not afforded an opportunity to make an informed decision. They are sticker shocked into paying for services that were not disclosed in advance. The refraction test, for example, is part of a routine eye exam anywhere else (and the uninterested staff tells you that if you complain) but at this office, it's extra! That's just the way it is, and they don't care if you complain. If you use this doctor's services, be prepared to be price gouged. If it's not the "extra" routines in eye exams, you're being told to purchase one of their many eye care products right there in the office. No, you won't get a prescription for a similar product so your insurance can cover it. Instead, you will be asked to buy it from them out of pocket right then and there. And if they don't have it, you will be told to go the store and buy an OTC remedy. This is a very do-what-we-have-to and nothing else kind of office. So, my family's response to their indifference is to only go there if we have to, which is not going to happen again anytime soon. read more

This office doesn't give surgery times, until NIGHT BEFORE. They blamed issues on being "short staffed". Doctor blamed patient for having cataracts and needing eyelid surgery. Dr. requires ALL surgery patients to arrive post op at 8am, at the same time! Rather than move patients forward from future dates to fill surgery spots, they move all surgery times on patients for that day. There are no checks or balance to make sure staff is scheduling surgeries on correct days, despite patient confirming appointment three times read more
