My son injured his knee and he had to have a ACL and meniscus replacement. He is very thorough and took the time to explain everything in detail. He also let us know what to expect. Even after the surgery he reached out to my son to see how he was doing. I was very happy with the results and I would definitely recommend him to anyone who needs orthopedic services. I would not recommend Dr. Alan H. Lee to anyone At ALL for orthopedic surgeon. Today was my first day visit him in Alhambra facility. My leg was in pain for months but he just had a brief examine my leg. The first thing he talked to me was that he will do the injection today. I requested to do MRI and he said in a very mean voice " insurance won't pay for it, you have to pay from your own pocket". "He also said that "You can't see me again and I have no time and will let the PA to do the injection". He is extremely Rude Office Personnel and very unprofessional. read more

We saw Dr. Lee for my elderly mom's arthritis in the knees. The first appointment we had with him was in the late afternoon and, even though we were on time, while we were checking in, we were told that he was leaving for the day. The staff tried to catch him but he just picked up and left! In subsequent appointments, he was just condescending and dismissive. You can tell he doesn't like dealing with the elderly population, wouldn't directly talk to her, and would make snarky remarks under his breath to us. We tried to ask clarifying questions to understand the recommended treatment because I thought you are supposed to work with your doctor on developing a treatment plan that is realistic (logistics with an elder for treatment and care is more difficult than than of an athlete). He said something to the effect that we can go to another provider in the office if we don't like his recommendations. So there's that... if you want to ask questions, discuss possible options and alternatives, or even get a little bit of compassion and understanding, do yourself a favor and start out by going to someone else (especially if you are a senor)! read more

I have never posted a yelp review, although I have used yelp as a resource for years. My recent experience with Dr. Lee prompts me to provide this evaluation out of respect and appreciation for the care I received. If you are looking for a consummate professional orthopedic specialist, who knows his medicine, understands his patients and is comprehensive in his approach, look no further. After 11 months of increasing arm and shoulder pain, visits to my personal doctor and a sports medicine specialist, I was losing hope of ever getting a diagnosis and wondering if I would have to live with lifelong impairment and pain. I spent 3 to 4 hours researching specialists on health grades.com, vitals.com and yelp, comparing medical backgrounds, patient reviews, clinical philosophies, etc. I chose Dr. Lee for all of the above. The day before my appointment I received a call from Sally, Dr. Lee's fabulous assistant, asking me if I could get a shoulder x-ray prior to the appointment. Dr. Lee had apparently already evaluated my other x-ray and knew I had two MRIs for his review. I was impressed that he ordered an x-ray so as to make a well-based diagnosis. During the appointment he listened to my extensive description of symptoms, reviewed my MRI images and the written results and did the normal series of physical tests. He explained the three conditions I have in simple English with no medical mumbo-jumbo and what, if anything, he recommended for each. He patiently listened to me ask a dozen questions, as I am very detailed about my health. I left the appointment fully confident in the diagnosis, something I did not feel with my previous sports doctor. A week later I received a very thoughtful thank you follow up note from Dr. Lee. I was in sales for years and fully understand the value of such notes - but no one, no one does them! I've certainly never received one from another doctor... It's only been a few days, so I can't speak to results quite yet. But I can't say for the first time in nearly a year I have hope that I will reclaim my normal active lifestyle and be pain-free. My grandson saw Dr. Lee following a knee injury sustained during gym. Dr Lee was wonderful dealing with a teenage boy, he explained everything that he needed to do to aid in his recovery. My grandson failed to go to his physical therapy and Dr. Lee was VERY firm with him explaining that if he did not go to PT the alternative was surgery. When we went to his last Dr. appt. , my grandson got good news that since he did follow through with PT his knee had healed and he needed no more Dr. visits. I Would not recommend Dr. Alan if he was the last Doctor on the Planet. I was appalled in his behavior over the telephone regarding a resident. I have never been yelled out in the 20 plus years of working in the assisted living field until this Doctor. My number one concern is to provide quality care and maintain my resident's health, when I requested clarification's on a incomplete order, he literally went off his rocker. Dr. Alan Lee has been my Orthopedic Surgeon for 3 months. I came to him for a Torn ACL, and he has given me options concerning my knees. My right knee has arthritis due to weight, and wear and tear. My left knee keeps popping out, which gives me discomfort and I can't walk for a bit. He had me fitted for a brace and that seems to help my knee. He set it up for an MRI, which I will receive next Monday. He is very professional, pleasant, and engages with his patients. He came from Stanford which he knows the State of Technology, and Sports-Related Injuries, total knee/hip/shoulder replacement. Dr. Lee preformed carpal tunnel surgery on both of my hands. I didn't realize how bad it was until I got the feeling back in my fingers. He was a very to the point Dr. and I did appreciate that. I can be the worst patient. He told me from the very beginning that the procedure is not always 100% and it will take time for things in my hand to settle down. I still have the tingling every now and again but my life has improved so much more since the surgery. My hobby is woodworking and now the difference is just amazing having feeling in my fingers. I was referred to Dr. Lee by my long time orthopedist, who reported that I was a 70 year old female who was athletic and in great shape. I was instructed to get an MRI and an X-ray, which I did. I took these to my appointment and was pleased with the medical assistant. She took my MRI and X-rays and the usual vitals. She stepped out and returned to tell me that the doctor wanted to look at his own X-ray, a single front view of both knees. Then she showed me to a room and was shortly visited by Dr. Lee. He began by a sarcastic remark about my supposedly athletic, great shape of a 70 year old. Then began the torment. First, he agreed that I had a meniscus tear, but implied that "his" X-ray could not detect a torn ACL. I responded by asking if he had reviewed my MRIs and X-rays I had brought in. Instead of an answer, he took my injured knee and "popped" it about four times, saying I don't think there's popping, it's just meniscus tear. Then he took my other knee, without my permission, and pulled it severely and twisted it until I was in agony! Stunningly, he said to me, this knee has a complete tear of the ACL! I told him I was sure that before he yanked and twisted it, it was fine. He went to my thighs and pushed on them at the top of the knee and said, you are too weak for surgery, I'm going to recommend physical therapy. (I play competitive tennis and do circuit weights, and walk 3-5 miles a day). Seriously, this obese one is telling me I'm not fit! It seemed more an insult to me than a medical opinion. I said I'm done, he started to argue and I told him I just wanted to dress and leave. On his way out, he turned and quipped, "just so you kn w, I rarely do surgery on someone over the age of 50! When I went back to the surgeon who did the ACL repair on my first knee, he walked me through the MRI showing me exactly wear the ACL was torn and the meniscus torn. I had surgery two weeks later and now, after four months am back to walking, working out and playing tennis.
