Dr. Eslami, the surgery went ok other than a lot of pain and nausea which is to be expected I suppose. However, he flaked out on two of my post op follow up visits and then the office called to say I would need to find a new doctor because he was no longer working with Dignity Health. Ten months post op I had a serious complication that put me back in the hospital at UC Davis Medical Center although it wasn't because of anything Dr. Eslami did wrong. But the Bariatric Surgery team at UC Davis was shocked that I had no surgeon. If you have other options consider them. I honestly don't think Dr. Eslami is a bad surgeon. I think he's fairly competent. I just don't think his head or heart are into Bariatric surgery anymore. read more

Took my money and time for 6+ months and when i finally met their goal they booked a final consult appointment for me so we could book the surgery date, to which I had to drive 45min to AND they took a copay from me, only to be told that I need to find a new surgeon because they didnt have anywhere to actually operate and was given no empathy. Dr Islami is a great surgeon in my opinion. I experienced zero pain after surgery. The nutritionist Irina is very supportive and encouraging. The MA Ricardo is the best MA I have dealt with in many years - always helpful and returns calls and emails promptly. Receptionist is very pleasant always. I hade my surgery during COVID and it was postponed once for a month or two but I got it done within the year. I have lost 90 pounds and feel fantastic! Dr Islami has not tried to sell me any other services but I will be going to him for skin tucking surgery for my arms and abdomen as well as butt lift if he does those....Highly recommend if you follow the plan they make for you! I am 60 years old and feel better then I did at 45 now! And my body looks better then it did at 35! However gravity needs to be dealt with...lol! read more

Dr. Eslami did a good job on my gastric bypass surgery. I was in horrible pain through my recovery, but I'm not sure if that had to do with the surgery itself or if it was how he did the surgery. Like many of the other reviews, Dr. Eslami is always fast with appointments and does not give very much time to his patients. He gives the impression that everything is about money. I have decided to not return to him for my follow up appointments. At my last two appointments he told me I now need Botox. Even after I told him that I was happy with the way I look, he was adament that I need Botox. I told him that I would remove the skin on my stomach before I did Botox and his response was "the problem with that is that nobody has to see your stomach, but they have to look at your face everyday." I lost my first 95lbs in the first six months, since then I've only lost about 10-15 lbs. However, I explained to him that even though I'm not losing much weight, I have gone down in pants size. I work with a trainer twice a week and workout on my own 2-3 days a week. His response was that I'm failing and that he doesn't want me to ruin his reputation. As my punishment he said I have to meet with the nutritionist and him every month. He seems to be more concerned with himself, rather than his patients. Dr. EslamiI is an unprofessional and unreliable doctor. I saw Dr. Eslami in October 2021 for a bariatric surgery which he initially was scheduled to perform in March 2022. As part of the surgery process, Dr. Eslami ordered me to attend various diet classes, see his nutritionist once a month for six months, perform complete Xray and lab work, and go through psychological evaluation which I performed all of them. After completion of all these procedures, I saw Dr. Eslami in March 2022 to schedule a date for the surgery. Dr. Eslami initially said he wants to be selective on bariatric surgeries. He only wants to concentrate on cosmetic surgeries where there is more money and everything is in cash. He said, however, as I went through all the process, he will perform my surgery. He asked me to return in May 2022 to schedule the surgery. When I returned for the second time to schedule the surgery, Dr. Eslami told me that he no longer performs bariatric surgeries and he is not going to do my surgery. I consider this behaivor rude and unprofessional. For over six months Dr. Eslami led me to believe that he is going to do my surgery. In 2017 Dr. Eslami was my doctor for gastric bypass. My personal opinion is he is a "cattle call" doctor. He did not care about me and my health and was only interested in milking my insurance. He forces me to buy shakes and vitamins from him so he could make money there also. More importantly the after care and follow up was awful. All he tried to do was sell me plastic surgery services. I have seen Dr Eslami 3 times now. Once for the pre-op appointment, time of surgery, and after the surgery for the follow up. As I read through the bad reviews, I experienced many of the same issues that the others stated. This doctor just does not seem to care. He was rude and short and hurried at my first appointment. He scolded me for not having the mass removed sooner, but didn't listen as to why (insurance took forever for approval, etc). Prior to surgery the staff told me he is "fast", not a good thing in my opinion, and that is exactly what I got, fast! Instead of hand stitching my 5 inch incision on my thigh, which would have taken him 5 minutes, he decided to go with staples, and didn't do well with that either. I guess I just didn't matter enough for him to give me the extra 5 minutes for a nicer looking scar. As for my follow up, they booked me 21 days after my surgery to have my staples removed from my leg. I questioned this when they gave me the date, since standard is 10-14, but their office was busy moving, and told me I would have to wait. By day 14 the staples were hurting more than the wound itself, so I had someone else remove them for me. In my opinion, this doctor in only in it for the money and does not care about his clients or people in general. read more

This doctor should not even be practacing medicine, let alone preforming surgeries. He said I needed to lose weight. Really Sherlock? I already know that! Plus, my consult was for gallbladder, NOT weight loss. At the hospital, he did not check on me after the surgery. He only stopped by to tell me that I needed to leave right then and there, even though the nurse had told me I was supposed to stay another night. Not to mention the fact that he did NOT send me home with antibiotics. He does not listen to concerns, is always in a hurry and shows little or no care for patient welfare or feelings. I think he should have became a butcher instead of a surgeon. No bedside manner at ALL. He did not listen to anything I had to say about MY health. As far as staff goes, I called the office four times and left a message three times. In the messages, I clearly stated that I needed a follow up appointment. After the fourth message, I was contacted and nonchalantly asked, "what was your question?" Err...really? Did you not listen to the three messages?? Nope! Never again. I'm giving this doctor 5 stars because his bedside manor is above and beyond what a patient can expect today. I went in for consult for a tumor on my thigh, he actually treated me like a human being. The office staff are also very wonderful. Last year I was going to get weight loss surgery but ended up later finding out I had some issues with my stomach that made it impossible. But I'll tell you when I heard this was going to be the doctor to remove the tumor, I was pretty excited. Too bad more patients cannot encounter doctors like this every day. Since my surgery I've done great. I was 335 when first came in. I wasn't determined bc of the way I looked . I had health issues and was ready to take it on. Going to the seminars and being surrounded by people that all wanted a better life for health reasons made it that much easier . I don't regret it one bit. The Dr. was there and was very comforting . Short at time but straight to the point like he's done it a million times. The hospital where I recovered was awesome . Giving the facts I hate hospitals . It's change my life and feels. Little guilty I haven't been back to see him. Shame on me. Britney (which is gone now ) was the best !! She's so sweet. I'm ow down to 220. Going to the gym and making better of my life . Giving the fact I had huge health issues like sleep apnea , acid reflux , diverticulitis. Etc . Now all gone . I admit . It's hard when you can't eat the way you want, but just like in real life . Took my daughter there for a hernia. We found him to be very non caring and rude. He offered weight loss surgery. My daughter said she wasn't interested in that. And that we are her for hernia repair. He was only concerned with giving her weight loss surgery. But could not repair her hernia that bleeds through her belly button until she lost 100 pounds are you kidding me! He can do weight loss surgery at her current weight but fix her hernia he cant??? To summarize in a sentence; stay away from this surgeon if possible and only use as a last resort. Read below and decide for yourself. - Very little medical knowledge, just surgical. - If you have complications post-op, he'll send you off to various Doctors which offer no solutions. - Takes on way too many patients causing very long wait times(1-2+ hrs). - Takes a long time to get an appointment with him. - His bariatric vitamins and shakes are expensive and you have to buy them or he won't do the surgery on you(it will cost about 300 dollars). - The "dr. eslami" brand protein shake, are just the normal shakes with a label glued over. (I peeled the label off and saw the store brand label under it.) - His bariatric vitamins are also overpriced but not too bad. You can find multi-vitamins online that have everything you need and the correct percentages if you mix and match. Don't do this if you are unsure. -Afshin eslami is very cold, very uncaring about any of your problems and offers no solutions.(mostly because he doesn't know). -Do not argue with him or he will delay your surgery as punishment. He delayed my surgery to the point where I was unsure if he was ever going to approve it. - He'll use anything as an excuse to delay the surgery. For example, I was dieting and preparing for the surgery and made the mistake of saying I went out for fast food. Before I could say I had just a salad, he delayed my surgery and rushed me out of his office. - Horrible bedside manner and a very poor understanding of medication and how it works. - His lack of knowledge about gastrointestinal medication is shameful given his line of work. Go to your primary care or research online because he cannot help you regarding this matter. - Day of surgery he will make you sign something saying that you can't sue him or take any action against him at all if he makes any mistakes or have any complications that arise from your stomach being too small. Standard except for that last part.. - Regarding the standard size of the gastric sleeve, he makes them smaller because it causes more compilations (i asked other bariatric surgeons about this). More complications means you are sicker for longer and lose more weight(this is the only plus). But you can have complications for longer then a year, like I did. I was forced to drop out of college because I was so sick I couldn't leave the house for the first 6 months. -This Dr. Afshin Eslami really seems like he doesn't care at all about his patients, just about his stats and his wallet. He makes your sleeve small, you lose a ton of weight and then are stuck with the complications of losing weight too fast. You can't exercise too much because you are so nauseous all the time. - All the medication you'll need to combat the complications may cost 500-2000 dollars a month(higher during the first 6 months) on medication and specialized food. You eat less but much more costly food to keep the complications at bay. - Dr. eslami will tell you before surgery that he's never lost a patient, but after surgery he'll tell you that he's lost plenty; but never his fault.. One could think that this could be for your own good(lying to you to keep you scared like an adult does to a child), but all it does is cause a lack of trust between you and the surgeon. Not good when your life is in his hands. - He's very self centered only caring about himself. For example he'll say things like, "I don't have to do this surgery, it's an elective surgery and I am not going to risk my career on you if you're just going to die"(sum) This is not the way a Doctor who's job is to help people, should act. -If you have to use him, try and prepare for the complications that will come. Research online. If you have to use Dr. eslami for bariatric surgeon, be very careful and expect complications after surgery. If you still have a choice in surgeon, choose a better one. Awful service! My husband was seen in July in the South Sacramento location and was told he needed some tests that the front office would set up and call us regarding times/dates. It's now October and no one has called, we've even called back in August inquiring and was told we would get a call back that day, nothing. We've moved on with a much better office and surgeon since he doesn't even seem to know what's going on with his patients and hires unprofessional office staff (think cheap and not trained properly)! We will not go back nor ever recommend his services, you probably won't get the services anyhow if his staff has anything to do with it! read more

Dr Eslami is a sleeve god! Hes the best hands down! Super Professional and honest which is important. I wanted to rush my surgery but he was like nope and made me drop more weight. At first I didn't understand but now I know it was so he can perform safely. I had my surgery on 7/18/18 and everything was fine, no complications nothing. His office staff is also great. This MD was very rude, and very dismissive to my sister, who had an appointment with him about the surgery. He was quick, blunt, and not encouraging. He denied her surgery ,and she was told no other doctor would consider doing the surgery. Then soon right after started tapping his fingers on the desk like okay you can go now. He made her feel so uncomfortable to the point she cried in the car. I understand you can get straight to the point but you can still be professional, and have little consideration for people feelings, and not be so arrogant, and dismissive. I wish I can give NO stars, that is just not how you deal with potential patients. My sister was very excited to come to the appointment whether her surgery was going to be approved or not. The MD could have called or sent a letter if he was going to be so rude, dismissive, and inpatient with her. I would give this guy no stars. I had a diastasis repair by him. I overheard the nurses right before surgery that they were waiting for the Eslami Tsunami. My abs were separated from my pregnancy by 5 inches, but he did not know this because he did not ever examine me before the surgery. My guess is that he went in and saw it. He told my mom that I would be angry at him when I woke up. They tried to dismiss me the same day at Folsom Mercy but I was unable to move. The nurse forced me to walk around with her assistant. I almost passed out and the asst brought me back from my room. I was in so much pain that I threw up and that put pressure on my stomach. MY heart got tacky and I got sweaty everywhere. My nurse that forced me to walk told the charge nurse that she couldn't handle me and other patients and told her to call the emergency team. Dr Eslami never told anyone that I was not a hernia patient. I hurt for at least 9 months after and had to take additional disability from the place where I worked. I have tried to get my records form this doctor many times and he has never delivered. read more

BAD Surgeon with very bad bedside manner. He runs out of the room and wont even listen to ALL my symptoms. He left a large hole in my gut after removing my gallbladder. Several weeks later I had quarts of bile drained, sepsis, ulcers, pneumonia, almost a month total, three different visits, they kept shoving me out the door while in 10 out of 10 on pain scale. Outpatient gallbladder surgery turned into almost a month in the hospital after 3 return visits! I first met Dr. Eslami while waiting in the operating room to see the surgeon who would be operating on my gallbladder (emergency gallbladder via Mercy ER). He was very kind and explained the procedure to me completely. He asked a few questions about me and asked if I had any questions. Not once did he make me feel rushed or hurried. Immediately I felt like I was in competent hands. As soon as surgery was over he went over the surgery with me and saw me every day while I was in the hospital. I'm not sure where the negative reviews are coming from. Even visiting him for my 2 week post op appointment, he was nothing but kind and asked how I was feeling and if everything was okay. I saw him ~5 weeks after surgery because one of my stitches was dissolvable and hadn't quite dissolved yet and I was worried. Once again he completely put me at ease and was so relaxed and took his time with me. His office staff is also wonderful. I do agree that they sometimes don't always pick up their phone, but for me I've simply just driven down to his office and gotten whatever I needed taken care of. Granted I can't speak as to how Dr. E is as a bariatric physician, but for an on call doc at the ER who operated on my gallbladder he was wonderful. read more

I had an appointment to see Dr. Eslami on August 9th. It seems that he has an entirely new staff of people. I went last year and the office manager didn't handle things the way it should have been handled. This time as soon as I walked in the door I was greeted by Juleta S. Her bright smile, efficiency, and professionalism were wonderful! It made me feel as though something was going to be accomplished. I had a wonderful conversation with Dr. Eslami and he gave me some things to follow. I also spoke to the new office manager Ricardo J. He answered all my questions with patience and kindness. The surgery scheduler (Cervantes) introduced himself and asked if I needed anything to just let him know. Wow! This was great! Brittany is the dietitian and she's the best!!! From the second you walk into this place, you feel like you are being sold something. Unfortunately this didn't sit well with me, as this is a doctor's office, not a store. But I thought whatever, maybe the doctor would be nice. I was sent here to see for consultation about a hernia. While I sat in the waiting room, it seemed like all of his patients were there for botox or weight loss surgery. I overheard a patient say he was great and that she loved him, so I had positive thoughts about going into the appointment. However, I was very wrong. Dr.Eslami spent all of 3 minutes quickly pressing on my stomach and telling me he would not operate to fix my hernia unless I lost 100 pounds or had weight loss surgery. First off, I didn't come here for weight loss surgery. I understand that is how Dr.Eslami makes most of his money, but he doesn't need to push it on patients so he can make more. Secondly, If he can proceed with a weight loss surgery as soon as a few months, why can't he proceed with surgery to fix my belly button? It doesn't make sense. You don't just lose 100 pounds in a few months, so it doesn't make any sense as to why you are willing to do one elective surgery but not the one I need. Honestly Dr. Eslami is a great doc!!! If you need someone to hold your hand and walk you through every single detail instead of you doing your own research, this is not the doctor for you. Come in with knowledge of your procedure (something that they tell you to do at the first orientation; to read up on the procedure that you want). Ask him questions and he will answer. This doctor is to the point and precise. My procedure went great!! Minimal scarring, minimal pain and all-around a great experience. His staff was the cherry on top of the cake. They answer calls and give extra information when needed. Do your research this is a procedure that's happening to you. Because bariatric surgery affects everyone differently, it's good to know the steps to the best of ur knowledge. So read up! If you don't like to read up on something that happening to you then you only have yourself to blame. I read the other reviews and the problem is they don't want to read up on their specific procedure. Most expect the doctor to explain everything over and over again. Please be considerate of the fact that he has dozens upon dozens of patients that also want that same care. He can only do so much. So read up on your procedure!!!!!! Because I read up on my procedure ( gastric sleeve), nothing was foreign and all I had to do was clarify things with him. I would recommend him to any of my friends. Lynette, Valerie, and Rondi are the best contact people. Lynette is a lifesaver and she is patient and tries to get back to you as soon as possible. Be aware that she is the scheduling person so she's extremely busy. She might not get back to you on the same day that you leave a message but she will get back to you. Email her and be considerate cause she is the only one. But again she is great!!!! Valerie and Rondi run orientation and group meetings. They are the ones that you go to for more clarification about diet and pre-and post op care. They are also great and helpful with what to do and not to do.
