My husband has a Steinway Essex piano that had to sit in storage for a couple of years until we moved into a more permanent home out here. It finally made its final journey to join us recently and required a full tune up. I of course turned to Yelp for help and noticed the amazing reviews that Alan has. I called him and left a message and he was able to come work on it the very next day! When he arrived, he started by cleaning all of the dust and pet hair out. He then began playing all the keys and went to tune then but noticed that due to its extensive time in dry climates the pins were too lose to tune properly. He had to go home to grab another tool after discussing my days schedule with me and when he returned he began the process of hammering in all of the pins and tuning each chord. While it took longer than I had imagined it would, I did assure him throughout that I could be flexible with my work schedule for the day. WOW! Our piano has never sounded as beautiful as it has after Alan tuned it and voiced it. We recently moved our Mason & Hamlin Grand piano and were really worried about finding a piano technician who could tune it properly. Alan set the tuning pegs a bit deeper ( since they had loosened a bit with the change in humidity), tuned it, and proceeded to work on a few of the dampers as well. Alan is great! He does an excellent job tuning, and was flexible with making the appointment. Called on Monday, and was able to make an appointment for Wednesday evening. He tuned it to 440 for me (it was probably about 20 cents off or more), and even was able to tighten the action to fix a few keys that were clicking! I saw Alan's reviews on Yelp and decided to contact him. I Emailed Alan on Friday morning and in a couple of hours he called me back to schedule an appointment for the next day. Once he arrived he took the time and care expected from a professional with 40+ years experience. We have an old Wurlitzer that hadn't been tuned in probably 15 years and Alan got it sounding amazing! He said that he could tune it where it was at for $99, but could get it up to "concert pitch" for a little more. I do a lot of accompaniment playing and decided on the latter. Boy, am I glad I did!
