Dr. Rechter worked with my son as he was having pain in his shoulder from baseball. We had visited several other surgeons who would take an X-ray and see nothing wrong, then send us on our way. After ordering an MRI, it was discovered that he had a torn Labrum. We were scheduled for surgery as soon as possible, hoping he would get some playing time in his Jr year. Although that wasn't to be, Dr. Rechter was with us every step of the way. He performed the surgery beautifully and got him ready to return to the ballfield for summer ball and Varsity in his senior year. I would highly recommend him and the staff as your first choice. read more

i will start off by saying do not go to this office! i repeat do not go here! do not allow dr rechter to perform any type of surgery on you! my first issue i was suppose to start physical therapy the next day after surgery didnt get into therapy until 2 1/2 weeks later!!!!! major set back! i had to do all the lead work myself to get therapy started. yesterday made 8 months i still hurt every day! i cry every day! my knee stuck at 90 degree! the staff here is horrible dont return calls! make you suffer for days without refill requests being done! poor poor poor bedside manners. didnt even get a call to check on me after surgery! i found out two months ago my knee cap is not in place! very heartbreaking to hear dr rhecter say to me i dont know what happen, dont cry we will fix this & i will have you back every month until we are both happy. lies have not heard from this dr or the office staff since that day 2 months ago! i have been calling the last 4 days to get information, leaving messages and yet to get a return call! dr rhecter did my dad knee surgery on both knees sad to say years later and he is on a cane and neither of his knees can bend back! red flag why i should have not went here!!!!! so again i say beware! i am beyond hurt, angry, and frustrated! i pray others experience is better if you do use this dr! read more

Five days ago, my daughter was taken to our nearest ER after hurting her arm at the park. The diagnosis was a buckle fracture, and her arm was placed in a sling. We were referred to a well known children's organization to follow up in 2 days. The soonest orthopedic appointment available was 7 days later. Even though her injury was "stable", I didn't want to wait that long. My neighbor is a nurse who used to take care of Dr. Rechter's patients for years. She referred me to his office, and they were able to accommodate us the next day at the Katy location. The experience was extremely positive, from check in to check out. Dr. Rechter's bedside manner is professional, yet endearing. He confirmed the type of fracture and recommended continuing the sling for 2 weeks to allow the humerus to heal. We will then repeat the x-ray, and he will show her exercises to do and avoid to prevent reinjury. He asked about her pain, and it was well controlled with Tylenol and Ibuprofen. As patients, we see a limited side of our providers, yet we place our complete trust in their hands. My neighbor adds that not only do his patients love him, but he has the respect of his colleagues too. Her words, "Dr. Rechter is impeccable and the most genuine doctor" she's ever known. She commends his positive demeanor and expertise. Health care professionals have the best insight into physicians. I'm in no way criticizing the network where I was referred, but if my daughter did need surgery, I would wait weeks to see Dr. Rechter if I had to. My fairly recent and only visit with Dr Rechter was in June 2022. He was very thorough evaluating my knee sprain. I was there for a work injury, and that may have had something to do with the fact that I waited in an exam room for about 45 mins, before an X-ray tech came in to say she needed two views of my knee. Then shortly after, I saw the doctor. Other than the wait, he was otherwise very personable and knowledgeable. I currently have an old shoulder injury and I plan to see him about it, so YES, I would recommend him. His office staff was pleasant and helpful, as well. read more

Visited Dr Rechter and he ordered a MRI for a shoulder injury seven months old. Dr Rechter informed that he would get back in touch with me within a couple of days after he received the MRI. Weeks went by and I called a bunch of times. Anyone that goes to Dr Rechter knows how difficult it is to get ahold of the office personnel. Marlene finally called and instructed me to call Josie and set up a surgery date. Still no word from the Doctor. So I show up at 06:00 am and at 08:00 am the take me back to prep for a 09:30 surgery. While signing the paperwork I refused to sign the document that stated I had talked to the doctor and understood what they were planning? At 09:00 the anesthesiologists came to the room and performed nerve block and gave me some pain meds which made me a bit loopy. At 10:00 the top nurse came in to get me to sign the paper. I finally gave in after the PA, the nurse and the assistant all told me I just needed to trust them. The reason behind my desire to talk with the doctor was because it had been 7 months since the tendon in my shoulder was severed and was concerned that they might not be able to reconnect. Well so the do the surgery and afterwards no one found it important to tell me or my driver(sister) that the surgery failed. So I have my sister drive me from the hospital to the doctors office to find out the surgery failed. I was told prior to the surgery that physical therapy wouldn't help but after the surgery failed they wanted me to go to physical therapy. On top of all of this they lied like dogs and the medical report at the hospital. I would look long and hard before letting Dr Richner and staff take care of your medical needs. read more

I have back pains due to a work related injury. I was referred to Dr. Alan Rechter by the employee health Doctor, Dr. Rory Owens. I first saw Dr. Rechter on 1/17/2023 . I was given 3 conditions such as R shoulder strain, Trapezial Myositis and backpains before my request for an MRI was ordered by him. He persistently offered me steroid shots, first to be administered to my right shoulder joint, second visit was to my muscles which was a trigger point injection. On both times I declined steroid shot until I would be given a definitive diagnosis. My request for an MRI was only ordered by him not until 3/29/2023. I had back pains since my injury on 12/20/22 and since that time I wasn't able to perform my duty as an ICU nurse which required 12 hours to be on my feet, the use of my upper extremities in order to perform my basic functions of delivering care to my patients. Lack of concentration due to my back pains, side effects of the pain medications I have been receiving. As a prudent Registered nurse and with a License to protect I had constantly communicating with my immediate supervisor my inability to perform my Rn duties. I was given the assurance that my job is secured until I'm well and able to return and work full time. As an injured worker, my temporary benefits which was to receive compensation while off work was discontinued on Feb. 8, 2023 because of Dr. Rechter certifying that with my back pains and other physical symptoms related to my injury, that I would still be capable of carrying my duty as an ICU nurse. I have been a nurse for 33 years; 13 years with my current employer. I have worked through the pandemic, through typhoons with dedication and courage. I considered my job as my family's bread and butter. I don't cheat the system for my personal gains. I'm just an injured worker trying to fight for my rights. read more

Dr. Alan Rechter and his PA, Marlene, have successfully 'put me back together' over the past 20 years as my days of body building caught up to me: Both knee replacements, shoulder surgeries, hip replacement, etc., half a dozen surgeries along with other non-surgical treatments. I have read the reviews complaining of long wait times or excessive forms, difficulty with overworked office staff, lack of follow-up, etc. Here is my response: Rechter is worth the wait and worth any extra effort needed to chase the office staff or make a few extra phone calls. Period. Hands down. Notwithstanding my past 20 yrs of being a patient, last year was perhaps the most severe injury I have been treated for, and from what I gather, it is one of the most difficult injuries to treat, with only a handful of orthopedics having the required expertise. This severe traumatic injury landed me in a level 2 trauma center by ambulance and required several extensive surgeries along with a stint in a trauma rehab hospital. The injury was rare enough and severe enough that after a year of healing and outpatient physical therapy, the trauma surgeons informed me they were no longer able to help me and I'd need to proceed to one of two specialized physicians that existed in Houston to see about additional treatments and surgeries. The prognosis was grim, and there wasn't even the slightest glimmer of hope when I was discharged from the trauma center and left to wonder if I'd ever regain the use of my right leg after a year of pain and suffering. I tried to locate contact info for these 2 special doctors to see about my next steps. It was at that time, I decided to call Dr. Rechter instead. Yes, I waited an hour in the waiting room. And when I did get to see Rechter, he informed me he could absolutely help me and answered all of my questions that had remained unanswered by the trauma center docs. The next visit was my actual repair surgery which involved a hip replacement and clean up work with bone grafts. Less than two weeks later, I was pain free and walking better and faster than I had since my traumatic injury. Rechter is extremely knowledgeable in his field and a brilliant surgeon. He is down to earth and will take the time to address your questions and concerns in layman's terms that can be easily understood. He is personable and very laid back and I appreciate his great sense of humor. If Marlene happens to be the one to see me, she is competent and also just as easy to speak with, and will take the time to address my questions, also has a great sense of humor and laid back demeanor. Josie in the office has always been on top of things and has managed and coordinated my case details competently and efficiently. In summary, my quality of life exists because of Dr. Alan Rechter. So take a book to read while waiting, call the office a few more times if you need to, and make that extra effort if that's what it takes, but know that it's all worthwhile. Do you ever see long wait times at a restaurant with bad food? Are tickets to an epic concert hard to find with long lines and sold out shows? Nuff said. read more

I tried to see Dr. Alan Rechter for a mild injury in a hand. He was recommended by a Dr. that I use to see. He may be a good Doctor but I did not have the opportunity, or should I say... The "Opportunity" of evidencing how well or not so well he is in the medical field. Lacking of a better term, I would say that his "gate keepers" (the people at the front desk) impeded that. This office is so oriented in having you forms that I have never seen before. I am not saying about the typical insurance documents, nor the typical obligations and responsibilities you tend to sign to insure that they will be fully paid. I will explain... On one of the forms they actually asked my authorization for allowing a Non-Physician, Assistant to address my problems. I clearly told the "Gate Keeper" that I did not want an Assistant to see me, but a real Doctor. She (the "Gate Keeper") insisted that needed give them explicit signed written authorization for the "Assistant" to address my medical problem. She also said that I could later object it even though I was already objecting and opposing the "Assistant" intervention from the beginning. That did not matter, they wanted my signed approval to let the "Assistant" come and show his experience. Then, I learned the reason: They also wanted me to sign another authorization so my Insurance could pay for this "Assistant" intervention even when I clearly stated that I did not want a student or an assistant or anybody with no Physicians' grade to be in charge of evaluating my medical needs. That form said that with the new Health Law, the payments to their "Assistants" should be approved differently. Then... Another form in which I needed to authorize them to prescribe some medicine based on some very harmful chemical. Form that I did not want to sign. That form was not simply informative it was drafted in a way that I was supposed to give them my permission to prescribe me a harmful medicine based on a hallucinogen. I, of course didn't want to sign that form. The "Gate Keeper" clearly upset with my concerns and objections to follow "her commands", turned the papers to another "Gate Keeper" and without saying anything to me, nor telling me what to expect or if I should wait or not. I just use my common sense and decided to seat and wait to see where these concerns and objections of mine would take me. After about 10 minutes later the "gate keeper" called me to tell me that no service was going to be received if I would not sign the documents, which were their policy. I assume their policy is to have inexperience associates that may address or perhaps prescribe medicines. I assume that their policy is to make sure those "assistants" are well paid even though the law may say differently. I assume it is OK to authorize them to prescribe you a medicine that may have a hallucinogen or even may have fatal effects on you She finally asked me: -Are you going to sign them? My obvious response was NO, then she said that they could not service me. Fortunately, I asked for my signed documents back. I had keep them as evidence if needed. Just to emphasize and add clarification: I am not saying about the typical insurance documents, nor the typical obligations and responsibilities you tend to sign to insure that they will be fully paid. I am saying of forms that were clearly drafted so your insurance should pay for more of what you requested or needed. I still do not know why I should allow them to prescribe me a drug based on a hallucinogen. I don't tend to write reviews but I hope you read this lines and be prepared to deal with the "keepers" Dr. Rechter may be excellent. But you have to pass the gate first. His "Keepers" will have you waiting there and if you do not agree to sign their "special" documents, some of which may be very compromising, they may not allow you to pass through their "golden doors to heaven". Save your time and find a real professional, someone more interested in your health than in covering their bills even if those should not be paid. Try to find a real doctor and a real Health Provider, not just a bunch of abrasive unfriendly "gate keepers" like the ones that made me waste my time. read more

I went to the office for a foot/heel injury and saw Dr. Recter at the time of the visit. Dr. Rechter was my go to for a second opinion regarding my condition. I decided after the consult with Dr. Rechter to go with him for my procedure. He was not only knowledgeable but his staff from the receptionist to his PA was great. Haley who works in the office and wears many hats was superb, she handled my FMLA paperwork and was very responsive and attentive to my questions and concerns. I fractured my clavicle Saturday morning and needed to see a specialist ASAP. I called the Katy Office early Monday morning and got an appointment before lunch. I had read the reviews about a Great doctor and waiting time so I was prepared and brought a book with me. As a new patient there is always a lot of paperwork to fill out, wherever you go. It took me about 45 minutes to complete and then I read for about 15 minutes. I was called and invited into an examination room. Dr. Rechter came in after ~2 minutes. He has a great personality, very professional, friendly and caring. Listened attentively and seemed very knowledgeable and experienced. I have a background as Critical Care Nurse and I am very picky about who I trust to treat me. I felt very confident with Dr. Rechter and trusted his advice. He took his time both to listen and to explain different treatment options. I have a very active lifestyle and my goal is to recover 100%, ASAP so it was a great plus Dr. Rechter is a Specialist in both Orthopeadic Surgery and Sports Medicine and understood my urge to keep up with AMAP of my activities during my recovery. I was ready to go for the surgery and Dr. Rechter advised me to give it 1-2 weeks first with conservative treatment, 'Figure 8' Clavicle Splint, and then evaluate the healing progress during my next visit with X-Rays etc., with surgery still an option. His assistant came and helped me with the splint and then Dr. Rechter checked so it was supporting and stretching out my clavicle enough and in correct position. I am not visiting doctor offices more often than necessary so even if the waiting time can be annoying, to be treated by the best Doctor is far more important for me. I was prepared and brought my book and phone. There can be many reasons for why there are waiting time, e.g. many Patients take longer time than expected and the doctor takes the time necessary with each and everyone... maybe the office staff can go over their scheduling and allocated patient time and make some adjustments... I will return to see, and be treated by, a fabulous doctor. read more

I am not really sure how to rate this practice. If my rating was directly associated to Dr. Rechter and his nurses/techs, I would give a rating of 5 stars. However, the office staff completely ruins this rating. I have never come into contact with such an unprofessional and RUDE billing assistant as I did at the Orthopaedic Associates in Katy. I was asking a simple question in regards to a charge. I was charged $25 for cast supplies to waterproof my daughter's cast and I paid it out of pocket. I also paid my co-pay and co-insurance. When we went to have her cast removed, they asked for an additional $30 for what insurance did not cover. I paid the $30, but asked about the $25 charge that was on the itemized bill that stated it was for cast supplies. The woman who handles billing could not figure out what the difference was between the 2 $25 charges for cast supplies, but I was just supposed to take her word that it wasn't for the same thing. I explained that I wanted to make sure I was not being charged twice for the same "cast supplies". Her response, "That wasn't billed to you. It was billed to your insurance." I guess her insurance is free and she doesn't have to pay premiums or for any services. I then explained to her that if she was billing MY insurance, she was in fact, billing ME. She was rude and would not simply answer what the $25 charge was for. She kept saying you're not paying for that. "You're paying for that, you're paying for 'this'." I finally got her supervisor on the phone and after explaining the problem to her and the other woman, LAUGHING, I was able to have my question answered in about a minute. In addition to dealing with this outrageously, rude employee, they have the most RIDICULOUS waiting times. We only had 2 appointments. The first to get the cast, and the second, to have it removed! My daughter's first appointment was at 10am, we were not called back until 11:45, then we waited another 20-30 minutes for the doctor. The waiting room is HUGE and every seat was filled. I assumed since it was an emergency, they probably worked us in and I just dealt with the wait. 3 weeks later, we go in to have her cast removed. Her appointment is at 4pm, we go in early, I assume they might get to us in a more timely manner if we arrive well before her appointment. NOT SO!! At 4:45, after a patient who arrived at 4pm was seen by the dr before us, I walk to the woman checking people in and ask when we will be seen since patients who arrived after us are being seen. She sincerely apologies (as I've heard her apologize to all the other patients waiting) and says that they're running behind because the doctor is going out of town next week. I told her it was the same last time we were her and he wasn't going out of town then. She says, "I know we're always busy like this." I offered the suggestion, of possibly NOT booking so many appointments, that it causes you to remain chronically behind by 1 hour. We were finally called back at 4:50 and after scheduling a 4pm appointment, we left the office at 5:30pm!! If you have absolutely nothing to do for the rest of your day, and enjoy sitting in waiting rooms for a couple hours, this is the practice for you! Such a shame that one person and poor scheduling can cast such a dark shadow on a fabulous doctor. read more

I was torn what kind of rating to give, because there is Dr. Rechter and the office experience. If it was solely based on Dr. Rechter, it would be a 10!! He is great, one of my absolute favorite doctors. He is funny, genuinely interested in what is going on, and thinks outside of the box. I have seen him for 2 different ailments and he always tries the least-invasive first instead of jumping immediately to shots or surgery. The office, however, is ridiculously slow. This wouldn't be enough to turn me away, I just know going in to expect a wait. But do not make an appointment if you only have an hour, or even 2. I have waited over an hour in the waiting area, then almost another hour in the room. Appointments can be a pain to get, but if you are flexible on which location and time, you can usually get in within a day or two. I would recommend to someone trying to find a good long term doctor, but not to someone who has an issue they need fixed right away. read more

This review is about his office staff. I made this appointment for my son many days ago expecting to see a "good" doctor. This afternoon, after driving 45 minutes before I reached his office, I happened to make a call to confirm the office address but was told over the phone that my son's appointment was actually canceled by the doctor because he decided to work at a different location today. No one from his office ever contacted me for any cancellation. Simply not professional! Not only we had to drive 45 minutes back, but we had missed all the days that we could have booked with other doctors. Now my son has to leave for an out of town trip for two months, which means he has to delay another two months for an doctor's appointment. I remember many doctors who charge the patients for no show or notice less that 24 hours. I do agree with that. But there also should be a law that protects patient's rights. read more

I used this office in the past, the wait is terrible, one an a half hours in the front waiting room and another 45 minutes in room. This time was terrible. My daughter needed knee surgery for a torn ligament, I tried for 2 weeks to leave message for Josie Smith, supposedly office manager, I lost count after 6 and also for Dr. Rechter secretary and Marlene to give me a school excuse since my daughter is in Band and Sports. I have daily emails and notes from school that my daughter needs to be excused, she cannot just just retract from activities. Ultimately the Doctor has to be in control of his lousy staff and don't make appointments that you cannot keep or disregards voicemail's. How busy can someone be, not to return a phone call? I believe this doctor is caring and competant and works hard to keep athletes competing. However, a work-in appointment kept us waiting 1 hour and 20 minutes. We were ok with that since they were doing us a favor. However, a regularly scheduled appointment kept us waiting 1 hour and 40 minutes. In addition, there was also a billing question that was poorly answered. After paying over $300 out of pocket for what we were told would be complete care for the injury, we were charged an additional amount when returning for checkup and xrays for the same injury. Amazing doctor, he shows such an amazing interest in his patients injury, he is non-invasive with surgery when it is not needed, and he is incredibly personable. There are bad reviews on here for wait times but he sees SO many patients in a day, there is a reason there is a line to get in and you can't get an appointment right away, everyone wants to be with him! Dr. Rechter and his PA are wonderful. We couldn't be happier with the service we received from Dr. Rechter and Marlene. Unfortunately, his office staff can be difficlut to deal with. Some are very nice and professional. One lady in particular is very rude, we waited an average of an hour and we were overcharged. I asked questions which were directed to the insurance person who was apparently out when we had our first appt. The office person who overcharged me was rude but my child was not going to be seen until we paid, so I paid eventhough the amount and explanation did not seem correct. The next visit I asked more questions and the insurance person was there who eventually confirmed we were overcharged. We often change doctors because of the office staff. In this case, I will not change doctors but will be very careful before paying more money and will expect to sit in the waiting room a long time. This doctor is worth it to us. read more

I would rate Dr. Rechter and his PA are pretty awesome. I have been seeing them for about 5+ years, and he has performed surgery twice. No Complaints...HOWEVER..... I recently had an accident in my home while cleaning. I went to see Dr. Rechter for ankle, knee and neck pain as a result of the injury. He offered a prescription for pain, hydrocodone. He then told me that I would have to submit to a drug screen since hydrocodone was now a controlled medication. I asked if insurance covered this test, and was told it most likely would be. I asked if it was an expensive test in case it was not covered, and the girl that administered the test told me she did not think so. I just got the bill, $3922 and not covered by insurance!!! This was for a prescription that I walked out with, and filled even before they had the results of the test!!! I asked my General Physician about this, his response was he could have done a test for $150 and gotten the information he needed for prescribing a controlled medication. Needless to say, I am very upset, left a message with his office, and believe I will be changing Orthopedic Doctors (I know it will not make a difference to him, but it will to me...) read more
