With 28 years in healthcare leadership, I was highly impressed by the flow of operations. Sometimes in healthcare, we forget how confusing the process can feel for patients - but Fondren Orthopedic Group truly has this on lock. It is one of the best, most seamless experiences I've seen. Our 5th floor visit went extremely well. From check-in to check-out, everyone was attentive, professional, and genuinely helpful. The 2nd floor visit was a bit different. At check-in, the young man appeared to be disengaged or bothered which is the person that checked us in and the young lady sitting next to him was preoccupied with her cell phone. While some may not notice, it was clear: head down, hands moving, and unaware that patient standing right in front of them. This comes across as disrespectful. A simple shift - putting phones away and being present - would make a significant difference. Aside from that, the care and service on the 2nd floor matched the excellence of the 5th floor. I brought my toddler here at the recommendation of his chiropractor. We were thinking there was an issue with his hip. We had a little bit of a wait, but with as many patients as we saw in the waiting room, it really wasn't bad. The ladies in the front had everything running like a well oiled machine and with me filling out paperwork ahead of time and also being able to pay in advance, we had no clipboard full of papers to go over and we didn't have to show anything other than our ID. Once in the room, Dr. Gary Brock came in and was friendly. He immediately introduced himself to me and my husband and then tried to interact with my toddler who just wasn't having it. That's no fault of Dr. Brock... he's just a two year old who doesn't like being in one spot longer than 32.7 seconds lol. Dr. Brock DID manage to get a high five and as he was looking at my son's legs and hips, he was talking to us about what he was looking for and what he saw. He was also being as playful as my little guy would allow in his annoyance of not being on the run. My husband went with my son to get a couple x-rays and just about the time I thought we'd be doing some more waiting, Dr. Brock was already back with copies of the X-rays telling us everything looked good. He made sure that we got his card with his personal number on it and encouraged us to send him any videos of our son walking/running if we saw something that didn't look/feel right. He said he didn't want us to have to bother making an appointment and coming all the way to the office if he could help us over a text or call. Even though our initial wait was longer than a two year-old would prefer, we spent a grand total of 1.5 hours from the time we got our parking garage ticket to the time we were back in the car. The building is very big and impressive, but a majority of the space within the building is just waiting rooms. You check-in to sit in one waiting room, then are called in to sit in another, smaller waiting room. We arrived early for our appointment but it's been 2+ hours since our appointment time and we're still waiting to see the doctor. It's not efficient. read more

Hottest mess ever. I don't even have time or energy to recount all the things wrong with this place. Lesson learned on going to my referring dr's recommendation instead of checking reviews first. Never again. Holly Jones Rheum - might be good at another facility but will never go there again. No matter what time your appointment, expect to be there at minimum 2+ hours after you appointment time. the parking is a nightmare. Desiree, the front desk reception, was passive aggressive, lacked any clear communication and was trying to give me an attitude after having trouble submitting my paperwork. Then went on to tell me that because I took too long with the paperwork, they skipped over seeing me and saw other patients. I told her I need to leave in 30 mins to see another specialist and she said she can't give me a time frame of how long it'll be. She was laughing at my frustration, and after I walked to the elevator, she began speaking under her breath about "that girl that just walked to the elevator". As if I couldn't hear her. Arrived at 1030 for my 1030 appointment with Nizar, the nurse practitioner for David Wimberley. I was asked to complete on paper the same forms that I was asked to complete online. So I did. Then waited. Waited. Waited. At 1115, I asked what was going on and was told that I was next in line. At 1144, I was directed to x-ray. At 1155, I was sent to an exam room where I informed the nurse that I have a 1300 appointment and needed to be out by no later than 1220. She said that it would not be a problem. 1215 came along and I was still waiting. Told the nurse that I had been waiting since 1030 and would have to cancel if I didn't see Nizar within 5 minutes. Nurse told me there was nothing she could do as he was still a with a patient. I waited again and then had to leave. Went by front desk where they were apologetic and wondered what the delay was. One of the front desk ladies looked at Nazir's appointments and said all the patients before me had already checked out. So she did not understand why Nazir would still be seeing someone else. Then the front desk boss called Winberley's staff and was told that they were running late. Front desk boss was also wondering why I was waiting for Nazir and not Wimberley. I told her that it was because the appointment scheduler said I had to do that. I then told her that two hours late is unacceptable and that my client would fire me if I made them to wait for two hours. I was then told that I would be charged for the xrays. I said that I would not pay for the xrays as I am not planning on returning to this clinic after the unprofessionalism exhibited. If Nazir, Wimberley and their staff were running that far behind, they should have informed the patient waiting for two hours. More importantly, if they can't get their appointments straight and are two hours (and more) behind, even though all prior patients to me were already gone, then they are doing something wrong. Total disaster. Had to take off from work and wasted the 30 minutes drive there, 120 minutes of waiting, and then 45 minutes to my next appointment, where I ended up late. HIGHLY NOT RECOMMENDED. read more

I was sent to see Dr Harrell by my pain management physician. Although I was scheduled for what I thought was a consultation, the nurse took me straight into the procedure room. After she saw the look on my face, she said why don't I put you in an exam room to talk to Dr Harrell. Thankfully, after meeting him and talking with him he agreed that we didn't need to do anything since I wasn't experiencing the pain. He listened to my concerns and was very patient, he never rushed me. I know that I can go back, if my pain returns, so I was grateful that he didn't push an injection if I wasn't in pain that day! I recommend this practice and Dr John Harrell! And the front desk staff are awesome, as well! read more

I like my doctors here a lot, but the current process for getting an appointment is unacceptable. There no longer are appointment makers at my doctor's office. So I called the phone number to make my next appointment. I dealt with an electronic system and hold music for seven minutes before I hung up. I will have to call back. The Fondren Orthopedic Group at the Medical center is a joke. I would like to start off that the receptionists up front do a good job trying to relay information to us for when the doctors is running late and they are nice. This review is in regards to Dr. Behrens and his medical staff in the back. I have waited two hours to be seen. I'm patient and I waited for the first hour bc he was called into a surgery, but instead of rescheduling me they stated that he will see me with in the next 30 minutes. Well, an hour later they still have not called me. I went up to the receptionists three times and they kept going back to see what was going on... but they keep coming back to me with saying "I'll be seen in no time". Wtf? I'm in pain, and I'm determined to wait bc I already took a half day and really want to see what's wrong with my hip. Do doctors not care what patients needs are? Clearly, this place is definitely that place. If you want to wait hours and not shown any kind of compassion or care then this is the place to feel like you are not cared for. Also, the aesthetics of the office looks like the late 80s early 90s. The chairs look like they have seen everyone's a$$e$ of Houston in there. You would think that this "supposed prominent" orthopedic group would have money to at least buy new chairs for those who have orthopedic issues that wait for over 2 hours for a visit. I can't even leave a review for the doctor... bc I'm still waiting. I'll update this review. After some time and pondering, I decided to post this review versus being angry and posting it right away. The visit was a disappointment. The doctor looked at me and spoke to me under 10 minutes. Didn't do any kind of orthopedic testing... (I'm an occupational therapist) and most qualified doctors will conduct certain tests to identify the problems. He came in with blood on his shoes from his post surgical procedure... yup... let's stroll on in with blood "pathogens" into a room versus changing his shoes. I'm warning everyone, find another doctor or location. read more

They did my husbands neck fusion with no issues...perfection and now they are working on my lower back and hopefully come out with a perfect outcome as well!!! read more

Most of the doctors are great. However, the support staff and scheduling staff are unorganized and misinformed. No communication between the departments causes patient inconvenience and additional discomfort. They are either undertrained, uncaring, incompetent or uncommunicative. The pre-admission staff are rude and condescending. I drive a couple of hours to make appointments and they call me on the way or back home to change care plans. read more

I really like Dr. Kevin. I have a hurt hip. He was very knowledgeable and sat with me for a while and really checked my hip. It does a bunch of stretches and moves to find out what was wrong. I fractured my skinny calf bone & received treatment here @ Texas Orthopedic Hospital, where Fondren Orthopedic group surgeons work. Arrived at 1130 AM, on a Wednesday. I spent less than 15 minutes waiting for the Nurse Supervisor to chat with me. She got a wheelchair for me & wheeled me from the paperwork window to the treatment room. My radiologist tech gently manipulated my lower leg to get a good x-ray. Treatment doctor, Dr Taba, requested a surgeon to step away from operating area & give some detailed guidance. Dr Loncarich spent time with me explaining the appropriate treatment for the fracture. He was textbook perfect in presenting pro's & con's of leaving the area intact or performing surgery with metal reinforcement. We were impressed with his even-handed approach. Unfortunately, for myself, my marketplace exchange insurance, BrightHealthCare, is not accepted by Fondren Orthopedic Group. I have to take my followup surgery to another, less prestigious, practice. Does Dr. Wimberley even exist? Both times I've gone to my appointment with "Dr. Wimberley", his physician assistant, Nizar, comes in and conducts the entire appointment. He's a real nice guy and likes to hear himself talk in Dr speak but I've never met the actual doctor! Haven't even seen him in the hallway! Even when my imaging results came in I saw Nizar. Don't get me started on the office staff. A total joke. No eye contact. After driving over an hour and a half to Houston for my appointment, Carmen spent 5 minutes with me. When I asked questions about the tests she was ordering, she became mad. She actually stood up and walked out of the exam room saying, " I am done with this appointment." I was wondering what just happened!? I was left in the room to collect my belongings and leave. Carmen ordered an MRI and some inflammation test. When I asked why these tests are needed, Carmen responded that my tests are old and Dr. McCann will not provide any services without new tests. While I can understand that explanation, I am not sure how that would change my treatment. Carmen seemed uninterested in hearing otherwise. Ultimately, for the first time in receiving care at Fondren Orthopedic Office, I left after the most uncomfortable and confusing appointment ever! read more

Just let me start out by saying that I have been going to Fondren Orthopedic Group since 2018 and saw Dr Uday V Doctor who has regrettably since passed away. He was the BEST doctor and he and his office were 5 stars. Flash forward to 2022 September with Dr Michael McCann and his office staff and every "supporting " group from billing , to his insurance person and every department in between....horrible to get a hold of anyone , long wait times and several transfers to get a hold of a different department only to find that you can only leave a message. I had a test done in September then anMRI was scheduled only to find that it wasn't really scheduled , had a hard time setting that up even though it is in house...finally got the MRI done....they used to set the testing up for you ....no more you have to do everything yourself which requires going thru their horrible phone system , being transferred and the left hand not knowing what the right hand is doing. I had an appointment scheduled for today to finally get the results from the DOCTOR and yesterday they call and say they no longer take my PPO Aetna health insurance based on a meeting they had 2 WEEKS AGO!!!! so they called to tell me that YESTERDAY. When I called to speak with someone who I FINALLY got a hold of (after all the normal fiery hoops you have to jump through with this office), either I was disconnected OR this lady HUNG UP ON ME....I was pleasant enough but to the point when she told me I would now have to pay out of pocket to even get my results; I asked for my medical records because I would have to find another doctor now ( and then the line went dead . UNBELIEVABLE. I had Aetna call them to make sure because the agent said they still had them listed as in network.....sure enough they dropped a major corporation I work for from their plan. Steer clear of these people the are all about your $$$$$$ last April they changed over to some other system and it is horrible , time consuming, frustrating and ultimately fruitless for me. Absolutely the WORST experience ever! Dr has no concern about pain the patient is in. NO AFTER SURGERY INSTRUCTION! Had numbness and tingling in hand after surgery, called and was told "it was nothing that I did" funny, it NEVER TINGLED BEFORE SURGERY!! Post op follow up was to sell CBD and tell me that they screwed my tendon on... I DID NOT HAVE TENDON ISSUES BEFORE SURGERY! No mention of physical therapy, no follow up AT ALL! Having emotional distress and physical pain WORSE than when I went into surgery. I am ashamed that I allowed such heartless people touch me. Watched as the "cattle" were herded in and out of the patient rooms. Currently seeing multiple dr to get referrals I need to start post op physical therapy and find out EXACTLY what was done to me and why is it I AM IN SO MUCH PAIN! UPDATE: Had to have the surgery redone bc the "dr" did not clean the tendon, fix the tear or ATTACH THE TENDON BACK TO THE BONE PROPERLY!! RUN AWAY! Do not let this quack touch you! read more

His bedside manor is second to none - he, himself, actually pushed me on the wheelchair from radiology to the room, something most doctors would delegate. DO NOT waste your time with this facility!!! They have little concern for you or your time. Twice I scheduled an appointment to see Dr. McCann and walked out both times without seeing the doctor after over an hour wait both times. Last appointment was at 12:30 and at 20 minutes to 2:00 I asked the desk how much longer will it be and they informed me HE WASN'T EVEN THERE YET!!!! So why make an appointment at 12:30 if your staff knows you will not be in until after 2:00!! If they can't even inform you that the doctor will be late imagine what type of care you will receive. read more

HIP PAIN FOR 2 YEARS: Went to Dr. Robin Goytia. Told me to keep taking Celebrex and come back in 10 years. I went back in 8 mo. He said "Is it your other hip now?" I said. "Nope. The same one." He said "I'll give you a hip replacement, if that's what you want." Nope. I need a new doctor. Never once manipulated my leg. I had to plead for a cortisone injection which he reluctantly ordered. No compassion, no empathy, no bed side manner. No manners. Tried Dr. David Vanderweilde. Fantastic physician who gave us a proper diagnosis. Prescribed the RIGHT anti-inflammatory and I'm up and running. Don't settle for a subpar doctor that's irresponsible. read more

Dr. Mehlhoff performed and excellent surgery on my thumb to remove arthritis at the wrist joint. The surgery and recovery went as described. I have no more pain in my thumb. He and his staff were wonderful. read more

Was sent a bill for 175 for service on January of 2022. I have two insurances and claim pain in February of 2022. I was told that l am being audited 15 months latter. Orthopedic is the highest paid specialty and it is never enough. I owe nothing snd called my insurances etc. read more

Had two knee replacements by Dr. Mathew. He is an excellent doctor. Everyone at the hospital during surgery was great. Don't understand some of the complaining on here. I would give this place 5 stars. I was in a lot of pain with my knees. I have no pain now and I am able to go, walk, climb stairs pain free. Dr. Mathew is a wonderful doctor. read more

The doctors and support staff are outstanding but the "book an appointment" online feature is the worst. I have been trying to book with a doctor I've used for years for knee issues and it says he doesn't practice in that area. This is by far the worst Dr office in the world! I have not had an appointment yet where the dr was running a minimum of at least an hour behind. Then after the major surgery they do not believe in pain management what so ever! I had to argue and fight just to get some pain relief. Also they don't believe in assistance after major surgery. I wasn't given a walker or even a cane to get out of bed! I had to roll literally in excruciating pain to stand up. When it was time to go home I was give one change of bandages even though they said I needed to change it out every other day! So your telling me I just spent $1000s of dollars on major back surgery and you can't give me the bandages I need? This place is flat out awful. read more
