We went on the Northern Lights excursion. Jason, the owner picked us up in the van right on time. It was about a 30-40 minute drive. I'd rented a camera from him with the proper settings preset. He also helped anyone who needed their camera phones adjusted. They provided tripods for free. Jason, and his wife Heather have a great set up. Big cabin for warmth. Lots of beverages, snacks, seating. Indoor plumbing. They have modern technology for tracking the northern lights. They told us when to head out. They have a huge, dark field for viewing. We watched a great Northern Lights show. We also saw a lot of stars and constellations. I'd definitely book with them again. read more

If there were half stars I'd give the experience a 2.5- because the actual dog sledding portion (all 20 minutes of it) was 5 star fantastic, but the getting there and getting back was a one star. Let me explain: Pick up was at Walmart because we stayed in a VRBO. There wasn't very clear communication ahead of time as to exactly where at Walmart and what vehicle I was looking for- tho I was able to reach someone on their business number after I arrived in the parking lot. A large passenger van picked my son and I up, the driver was very young and pleasant looking but literally said nothing but "hello", not even his name. There was one other couple in the van. Here's the weird part- the driver gave us ZERO communication on anything. Not how far we were going, or where, or some background on dog mushing, or pleasant conversation. I asked maybe 2 questions and he answered them but it was clear he wasn't going to offer anything further. The van was so uncomfortably silent I felt like I had to whisper to my son. After about a 35min drive "out of town" I guess I expected to arrive at some kind of professional kennel/facility but it was actually someone's house with dog kennels out back. Again, we piled out of the van, I was holding my purse and my son had a backpack (do I take them? Are there lockers? Do I leave them in the van? Who knows...) and our driver just walked off, giving no instructions. We decided to follow him. I asked if I could use the restroom before we started and he waved me in the general direction of an outhouse in the woods (which I never found- I just took care of business in the trees, clutching my nuisance of a purse). There was a team of dogs already hooked up, and he told the other couple "you're first" and loaded them on the sled with the owner/musher named Amy (we didn't know any of this til my son and I actually got our "turn" because again, ZERO conversation or communication). I guess I expected that if there were other people we would be on separate sleds but all go out together? Nope. Other couple took off with musher. So here we are, standing in the middle of the dog yard with significant dog kennel odors and yelping dogs and van driver than won't say a word and wondering what the hell is going on. I'm still wondering what to do with my purse, as it's obvious this is no place to be carrying it and there's no where to put it. I asked the driver if I could put it back in the van, and he said, "I guess I can take it for you, they'll be back any minute". (Again, I'm confused... they've only been gone 10-15 minutes... is that how long the "experience" is?) Sure enough, they returned a few minutes later. So my son and I load up. Here is where the 5* part comes in. Amy (owner of kennel/dogs/professional musher) quickly introduced herself with a smile and warm welcome. We took off into the woods on a well groomed trail, and she talked the whole time about her dogs, the breed of Alaskan Husky, the sport, her experiences, and more. It was thrilling and fun and interesting to hear her point of view and expertise! Tho the time on the sled was only 20 minutes or so, my son and I both really enjoyed every moment. I booked a dog sledding tour for my daughter and I, that we were very excited about. This experience was underwhelming and over priced. I would not recommend. We were picked up 45 minutes later than expected, and dropped off an hour and a half early. My daughter and I enjoyed the dogs sledding (all 8 minutes of it) but we spent more time in the sprinter van than we did sledding. There was no interaction or directions given from the host. I recommend Alaska Aurora Adventures if you're not familiar with the Fairbanks area and really don't want to drive out in the country and sit in your car waiting for the Northern Lights! They have a very nice lodge with plenty of windows and comfortable furniture to use while you wait in warmth. They have plenty of snacks and a wide variety of drinks so all you need is your camera... oh, you can use their tripods (for free) which is a great bonus since you won't have to pack one. I booked the 3-night tour to better my odds and it worked out perfectly. The clouds essentially blocked everything the first two nights, yet they let me make the final decision about going or not. The third night was a winner and although I didn't need assistance, Jason was helping others with their camera settings so everyone could get decent photos. DO NOT BOOK A TOUR with this company. Save yourself a lot of $$ and frustration. This is going to be a long post and I apologize now for that but please read this in its entirety before you consider booking a trip with Alaska Aurora Adventures, LLC. Jason Peters is the owner of this company and I honestly don't know how he could still be in business. He is extremely rude and opinionated and doesn't know the first think about running a successful tour business. Jason unfortunately was our tour guide. He never introduced himself. He never talked to the group to inform them of the plan for the day, we were spoon fed that info as we went along. Most tour guides will start the day with a brief overview of the plans for the day, not Jason. Typically when you go on a tour the business understands that you are the customer and that they are offering a service to you. Without you, a happy customer, they have nothing. So the successful tour company will go out of their way to make sure that you are happy, comfortable and satisfied. They will make sure that they communicate with you every step of the way, not so with Alaska Aurora Adventures. Our group of four felt like we were held hostage on some crazy amusement ride. It appeared as though Jason (the owner) had our money ($200 each) and all he was to provide was to drive us to the Article Circle, nothing more. We booked the Arctic Circle Tour and Aurora Viewing Combo. We knew going in that this was going to be a long day. However, we didn't know how painful and dangerous that was going to be. We understood that this is mostly a dirt road in the vast expanse of the AK wilderness. We didn't know that the driver would be so reckless as to put his paying guests lives in danger. Jason drove entirely too fast for the conditions, was getting angry with the cars driving slower than him and making racist comments about them. He would take his eyes off of the road for long stretches, even looking at his cell phone while driving. When we confronted him by merely saying, "eyes on the road please" he got defensive and denied it as most young teens would do, not a responsible adult and business owner. We were told to bring food as they would only be providing snacks and water. We didn't see the snacks until six hours into our trip and that was handled by passing a bag of small snack bags back in the van. We never saw the water. We brought our own food but there was really no time set aside to eat it. There were two stops and they were both very brief with nowhere to sit and eat comfortably. There was no way you could eat while this vehicle was moving. Jason didn't offer much in the way of information about our 10 hour drive to the Arctic Circle and back. Tidbits of info were shared but nowhere near what other tour companies provide. You would think for the amount of money we paid he could do some research and tell us some facts about AK. What Jason was good at was talking about himself, and very loudly at that. He shared his political opinions and complaints. All things that paying customers would love to hear, NOT! The tour van was filled to capacity with no room for a bag of say, food, water or other provisions that you might need for a 10 hour excursion. We found out, literally 2 minutes before he stopped, that we were being dropped off at our car and that he would be back in an hour to pick us up for the second part of our trip, the Aurora Viewing ($75 each). We were so glad to be out of that vehicle that we never took that part of our trip. We asked for a refund but he refused to give it. Our fault for not doing more research. After the trip we see many comments like this, some going a long way back. Clearly Jason is not going to change as he continues this bad behavior. Finally, think very carefully about spending 10 hours and $200 each for a two minute photo op in front of a sign. read more

The first leg of trip where we went to the arctic was nice. Our guides were great. The goodness however stops there itself. The cabin for aurora viewing was hosted by Jason and Heather. Jason was super racist and it was very hard to make a conversation with him. He was always trying to be over smart and sarcastic. We were not at all explained what all was included in out trip. They claimed that the camera setup was free but upon showing them the camera there were like camera is broke(it was not) and totally refused to help us. Jason also made some super sexist comment to my fellow travelers which made trip very uncomfortable for them. Overall I wouldn't recommend them. read more

This could have been one of the most definitely one of the worst experiences of my visit to Alaska but we still got a dose of the bad treatment from the team at Aurora Adventures. We fell ill a day before the trip and only asked them if they would be able to refund our amount if we were to cancel the tour, and we were in Anchorage at this time. We were not really really sure if we would be able to drive up to Fairbanks just for the tour. So I emailed and asked them about this. They, on the other hand took us off the tour and didn't even have the courtesy to acknowledge doing that. In their reply, they wrote that the money can't be refunded but never said that they've removed us from the tour. I called them back to see if some accommodations can be made for the tour as we didn't want to harm other passengers too when Heather informed that we're no longer on the tour and she hung up the phone. I tried pursuing them again and we were never answered back. We lost our money and also received this horrible treatment. Later, I felt really thankful that we didn't go with them for the Arctic Circle tour. Would never recommend the Arctic Circle tour with Aurora Adventures to anyone. read more

We did their Aurora viewing tour, which runs from about 9PM-3AM. Basically, you wait for the aurora to come out while in the comfort of a warm lodge (with unlimited snacks and drinks to help keep you awake). NOTE: I highly recommend renting a professional camera, if you don't already own one. They picked us up from our hotel at around 930PM (there were about 5 other people on the tour, whom they picked up before us). At around 10PM we got to their lodge, where we waited for about an hour or so with no aurora in sight (the aurora was out, but the clouds were against us). In the meantime, you get your cameras ready, play with their adorable dogs, and wait around. At some point, we hopped back in the van and drove to another location for a chance to spot the aurora. The van stopped for any animal sightings and to check for the aurora at a given location. We ended up driving to a lake, which was completely frozen over, and observed aurora while standing on the lake (or you could wait in the car). We technically saw the aurora but not to the scale that you see in all those amazing photos. However, we saw so many stars (as in I never realized how big the big dipper constellation is and how easy it is to spot when in the right conditions). At the end, they drop you off at your hotel. I'm pretty sure we all fell asleep on the way back. Would I recommend? - Yes, especially if the goal of the trip is to see the northern lights and you don't know where to go. It was an easy start to our trip, though it is a little pricey. read more

Jason and his wife, Heather are lovely and care deeply about customer experience. it was easy to book, they came and picked us up at 10pm and took us to a camp that was well built, lots of activities for everyone while we waited for the northern lights. There were tons of snacks and warm drinks while Jason helped to set up everyone's cameras. When the lights finally came out, he was ready to take portraits of us in the Aurora and had them sent to our email before we left. That was a bonus because everyone wants the one picture that shows "you were there". Was not expecting that. The hole thing was so well organized. I would use them again in a heartbeat. The hosts who took us for arctic circle tour were good. But the hosts for the northern lights tour, Jason and Heather were very rude and kind of biased and racist. I was playing with their dogs and unknowingly came close to the host's desk. The host asked me to step out of the way and turned towards the other people around his desk and said "right, $1 a lap dance haha". He didn't have to say that, he could have been polite about it. He helped others set up their camera to capture the Northern lights but he didn't help my friend set it up. Both the husband and his wife both were very rude. I planned 2 trips with Alaska Aurora Adventures for a surprise trip for my husband's birthday! We did the Dog Sled/Chena Hot Springs/Ice Museum on Saturday, and the Wildlife Tour on Sunday. Greg went above and beyond to make sure that we were having a great time, warm, seeing new things, and having all the photos we wanted. He tailored our trips and made sure we packed our days with new adventures! Trip 1) Firstly, Amy was amazing. The dogs were so kind and playful when we arrived, and were so speedy and smart. We had a great time! Chena Hot Springs was amazing. Toasty and beautiful. Definitely our favorite hot spring that we have ever done. And the Ice Museum was one of a kind. Super cool, and how can you beat a martini served in a glass MADE OF ICE? I mean, come on. Trip 2) Although we did not see any moose, we did see fox, lynx, bald eagles, and salmon. The scenery could not have been more beautiful. We took great photos and loved the landscape. Greg took us all over creation trying to seek out the bison and moose, but in the end we had a wonderful time, and understand that you can't predict those sorts of things. And the car was toasty the whole time we looked, so it was still comfortable and relaxing for us. Thank you Greg and Jason! We had a blast! read more

So we booked the dog sledding tour. Felt very underwhelming for many reasons. When we arrived Jason felt automatically hostile. We had an Airbnb and a car so we decided to drive there. He emailed me not saying anything about anything else but to be there at 10:30. We got in the van feeling rushed, he tried to keep conversation but didn't talk much about the dog sledding already feeling a little awkward and confused on why we were rushed. We get to the dog sled with the dogs ready Jason tells us to get in and feeling rushed once again for the ride. It is a 5 mile drive and did feel short but that is what the site said. Amy did talk to us a little about stuff about the dogs. We got done with our ride still really confused on what is going on. Our friends got on their ride we pet some dogs but nothing was explained by Jason since he was with us while they were on their ride. For something that cost $120 it felt like we missed out on a lot of what this tour should offer. Learning about dog sledding, their names, petting the puppies. From being rushed from the beginning, it was very hard for me to enjoy the experience. If you want to do dog sledding solely I would book with someone else. read more

I was lucky enough to have found a family-run tour company in Fairbanks, Alaska that provided down-to-earth conversations about life in and near the Arctic. Jason and his staff are experts. I wish them all the best with their business. You can't get a more hands-on experience unless you go with a smaller company that can afford to take the time to cater to each tourist's needs. And I felt they accomplished that for me. I did the Wildlife Tour and Arctic Circle Tour and believe I got the best bang for the buck. Tours don't always offer guarantees on what you will or won't see, but the people make a huge difference. If I could give zero stars I would. My husband and I booked the wildlife tour. Jason emailed my husband at midnight 2 days before our date to fly out to notify us that he would need to cancel our tour. My husband then called Expedia in order to book another activity. Jason then called us literally SCREAMING that we should not contact Expedia for a refund as it would be inconvenient for him. My husband tried to calm him down and explain that this wasn't the case, he then hung up on us. I then called back twice (the first time they sent me straight to voicemail) and when he finally answered he began yelling at me. I told him he was being inappropriate and that I needed to speak to a manager. He then put me on hold and answered the phone again and I asked if it was Jason again, (it was) he then yelled that he was the boss. I told him I needed to speak to someone else. He then put a woman on the phone who claimed she was his wife, and then she began yelling at me for trying to cancel the activity even though THEY WERE THE ONES WHO ORIGINALLY CANCELLED. She kept yelling and I told her she was also being inappropriate and tried to explain that we were not cancelling, she then THREATENED TO NOT GIVE US OUR REFUND at all (a $400 refund!!!!!) not once but twice! Then she hung up on me. These people were absolutely disgusting. I've never had someone speak so openly disrespectful over something that was not our doing but theirs. read more

My wife called him back and he started yelling at her so my wife asked for a supervisor he asked her to hold and answer the phone himself again pretending to be someone else and when my wife call him on it he says IM THE BOSS after that he put his wife on the phone to yell at my wife. She threatened to NOT give us a $400 refund twice on an activity that THEY CANCELLED ON THE SAME DAY WE WERE SUPPOSED TO FLY OUT. ONLY TWO DAYS BEFORE THE SCHEDULED ACTIVITY. They were both very rude and unreasonable. They had no excuse to verbally abused both me and my wife when they are the ones that CANCELLED and then made an ASSUMPTION that we went to expedia for the refund. You do not call yelling at your clients for calling the company were they book to begin with for something you are canceling on the first place!!! This review is well over-due. My partner and I had the amazing opportunity to experience Fairbanks in December 2016. We booked the dog sledding, Ice Fishing, Wildlife Tour, Aurora Viewings with Alaska Aurora Adventures and had the best time. The ice fishing was surprisingly fun (they provided snacks, hot dogs, hot ramen, and prepared our freshly-caught fish for us). I highly recommend this experience. Dog Sledding was a thrill, a real treat coming from NYC, and the owners of the dog kennel were friendly and knowledgeable. The Wildlife Tour was stunning. Unfortunately, we didn't see much wildlife, but the landscape was more than worth it alone (plus we saw the pipeline up close). We were in Fairbanks for 3 nights, the first two nights were a bust, too cloudy, even though we booked the tour for that night, Jason was frank about our chances of seeing the lights and he advised us to try another night. We were incredibly fortunate on the last night to see the lights, they were absolutely incredible, nothing I had ever seen in my life and definitely made the trip to the North worth a life experience. I absolutely recommend booking your Northern Lights Viewing with Jason. They keep the groups small. Where you are taken to a warm cabin with snacks, on a beautiful property. Overall, my partner and I felt that Jason, Dan, and their family really made our trip something special. We look forward to another trip Fairbanks in the future and will be booking with Alaska Aurora Adventures when we return. read more

While I cannot review the actual tour sadly, since they cancelled it, the person I spoke to was not very friendly or helpful. We booked an Aurora Viewing tour same day. We received an email stating the tour was booked an the card was charged. Then approximately 30 minutes later we received an email from Jason stating that they were not doing the tour that night and asked if we wanted to rebook for the next day. We were bummed but realize things happen. I responded to let them know we could not as do the next night and asked about a refund. I never received a response and emailed again a couple hours later asking for confirmation that we would be refunded and explained that we were unable to rebook as we had other things planned the next 2 nights and where leaving after that. Still no response. I got on the website and they were still taking reservations for that same night so I was very confused. I called and had to leave a message. I did get a phone call back, although the caller did obviously did not listen to. my message and just stated he missed a call. When I explained I was just confused as I never got an email in response he wanted to know what kind of response I was expecting. I stated I just wanted confirmation that we would be refunded. He rudely stated that it was refunded and that is how it worked. I stated I never received any correspondence about a refund so I was just checking. He was very rude. While I'm sure, based on reviews, the tour itself would have been great, I will never book with them again because of the horrible customer service nor would I recommend them for that reason. read more

If I could give it six or more stars I would. From the northern lights tour to the Chena Hot Springs visit, this company is first class! Very knowledgeable, hospitable, and professional! We travelled in the winter/spring and the roads here are very treacherous. I recommend going with a safe and knowledgeable company because we did pass another tour company flipped over on the side of the road. Our driver stopped and gave the members of the other tour a ride back into town. When booking your tours, I recommend you ask for Scott as your guide to the Arctic and Meghan as your northern lights guide. When booking with this company...if you do not have a camera then spend the money to rent theirs, trust me it's worth it! iPhones or any variation of such can not capture the northern lights. Meghan will assist in the shot angles, setting up of the camera/equipment, and will explain the basics of photography if wanted. Side note...Meghan is a professional photographer and is talented beyond belief! I look forward to going to the Arctic with you guys and many other trips in the future! Not only did we not get to see the aurora, Jason wasted our entire night driving hours south into weather that had no chance of seeing the aurora in. He crammed 14 people into the van with bags so there was absolutely no leg room. I ended up throwing up half way in due to his crazy driving. We booked the Arctic Circle tour COMBO with Aurora Borealis viewing at night. The tour van is comfortable and not cramped. The driver Greg did a great job on that rough road keeping us safe, getting us to our destination and explaining all things Alaska! Jason, Heather, and Megan helped us photograph the Northern Lights in the best location possible - their lodge in the woods of North Pole Alaska. All in all, it was a spectacular 17-hour day. This was an amazing adventure! My husband and I did the Northern Lights tour. This family-owned business was very well organized and communicated clearly before the adventure began. They picked us up at our hotel and took us to the viewing site - a small cabin on their property in a beautiful setting. Our wait time was made comfortable by snacks, good company and comfy Alaskan decor. My only suggestion: After the Lights were finished about 130 in the morning, we had to wait for a while before getting our ride back to the hotel. It would be nice to have the option of leaving after the lights are done instead of having to wait. But otherwise..An AWESOME adventure. Support LOCAL Business! read more

The Artic Circle tour with Art as the driver was unbelievable!! We have been to many amazing places in our lifetime but this was the best vacation we have ever had. He is a true "Alaskan" - and knows so much about Alaska. He talked the whole trip - answered every question - told hilarious jokes - introduced us to the locals - made sure we were comfortable. How lucky were we to have him for our driver? The road was treacherous and dangerous - but he made it fun and exciting. We felt safe because of his experience as a long time Alaska driver. His stories were amazing. There were also very clean restrooms during the day. I would love to do this trip again.....but only if he was tour guide. That night we went directly to the lodge/cabin to view the Northern Lights. It was very comfortable - the lights came out but were very faint. Not the fault of the tour company. We chose this outfit at the last minute to complement one we selected on expedia at home. They were happy to book us for our Northern Lights trip, and told us what time we would be picked up and by who (Megan). Megan arrived in an older 12 passenger non-descript van, and safely drove us to a virtually brand new viewing cabin near North Pole AK. Once there, she told us to help ourselves to treats (candies, popcorn, chips, etc.) and drinks (coffee, soda, hot chocolate, tea) all of which were plentiful. She then offered to help those with cameras to get properly set up for the aurora display. About 1.5 hours after we arrived, she announced the auroras were starting and we should get outside to see them. She then accompanied us outside and again helped people get set up to photograph and enjoy the display. She was enthusiastic, helpful and just fun to be with. We ended up staying later than we anticipated viewing the Northern Lights, and returned to the cabin numerous times to get warmed up and then back outside to view. You could also view from the inside of the cabin (although not as well). She then safely drove us back to our hotel. A thoroughly professional, fun and enjoyable affair. Bad, bad, bad owner...Jason. The tour we went on with his guide, Greg, to the Arctic Circle was amazing, however if I could have gotten a refund I would have cancelled it. Jason is a real a**hole. Narcissistic with a holier-than-thou attitude. Talks down to people and when confronted, makes feeble excuses. He also will scam you on his Aurora tours. Takes you to his private house, rather than to a venue where they are frequently more visible, and lets you sit (sleep) there all night while he goes to bed. Be sure and question the options if the weather is not conducive to seeing the lights. If he can get away with not telling you, and keeping your money when you don't see them, he will. The options include: going on the tour anyway, rescheduling the tour, scheduling a different tour, or getting a FULL REFUND. Take the refund!!! His star rating has decreased dramatically in the last few months and if I had bothered to read them again after I signed up and paid for the tours last fall, I would have cancelled. I did end up going on the Arctic Circle trip and his guide Greg was amazing! He is the only bright spot in the entire experience! Simply superb Yes, simply superb experience -in terms of flexibility in booking/cancellation of the trip even 10 mins before the scheduled pickup time -in terms of friendly nature of driver/guide/professional camera expert and what not...the all in one MEGAN who helped me setting up my camera to get stunning shots of Aurora -in terms of friendly and non commercial nature of JASON. Jason sent out an email with satellite forecast screen shots when the forecast was cloudy all the night and offered either to cancel/reschedule for free of cost and even offered 50% off for the next night aurora viewing tour if we are not able to see any aurora with the actual scheduled tour. -in terms of cozy and most comfortable heated cabin with a good variety of snacks, water, hot drinks and fruits. -On top of that they offered us a quick 10 mins Snowmobiling in their property (as a passenger) as there are only 3 families in the tour that day. -Particularly my daughter enjoyed playing with two beautiful huskies named Aurora and Turbo and a cat Mr.Rocky -Jason's wife(sorry I forgot her name), she even took care of my daughter while me and my wife were busy capturing the aurora. -I might have asked for the discount as we went on the second night as well but I paid them full as I'm very much satisfied with their hospitality. My sister & I feel very lucky that we found Alaska Aurora Adventures to do our Alaskan Adventures with. Love that the business is family run, it was very personable & everything from the day trip out to Chena Hot Springs, Northern Lights and the Dog Sledding were fantastic. Megan was our guide and her knowledge was brilliant & she was very friendly. The lovely viewing cabin made waiting for the lights a very comfortable experience and even though the Northern Lights didn't show for us we had a lot of fun. When I come back up to Alaska to try & view them again, I'll be booking with this company again. read more
