They also have big selection of Stella & Chewy's freeze dried raw dog food toppers. My dogs especially like the raw freeze dried chicken. The place was super clean and organized when I stopped in a couple weeks ago. I don't think I've ever walked out empty handed. The staff is consistently friendly and approachable. When I asked for a manager to see if there was a bag stored in a cleaner area I got a woman with offensive tattoos all over both her forearms who looked more like a carnival show freak than a professional. When I addressed the filthy bathrooms and mouse droppings near the dog food shelf she was rude and as unprofessional as she looked. I will drive to PetSmart moving forward. Shanna was the alleged manager at Pet Zoo who should be be taught how to keep a reasonably clean store and how to talk to people.

It's not a giant store but so far they've had what we needed all but one time, but were able to make do with something else there. Most recently I had to get the Cone of Shame for our boy and I opted for a soft cone, rather than the hard plastic e-collar. I debated on sizes and when I got to the register, the gal asked me about my dog and let me know that if it didn't fit to bring it back to exchange it. She was really nice and has been each time we have been in there. I would be docking them a star due to the prices but I won't; they're definitely higher than some of the big stores but I still choose to go to Pet Zoo because of location, locally owned and customer service!

They have so much to choose from. They happened to have some doggy donut samples out, which immediately grabbed my attention. One doggy donut quickly turned into several because I have three dogs and there was no way they were going to share. The fresh treats were such a fun touch, and I loved seeing options like donuts and cookies available right in the store. AK Bark has a really nice variety of dog toys, clothing, accessories, and treats. Everything was easy to find, and the store itself was clean and well stocked. The staff made the experience even better. Everyone was friendly and helpful. No pressure, just good vibes and great customer service. Heather (dog trainer) is the only bright spot within this facility who's always on top of things. We notice on days she's not there the cleanliness, customer interactions, and overall functioning of this business becomes extremely degraded. We've had a standing appointment with our 3 dogs every other Friday for over 2 years and schedule 2-3 months in advance. The previous owners always insured a gap with our pups since one of our dogs is reactive. This courtesy wasn't just extended to our dogs but to all clientele that needed a small buffer to get their dogs in/out of the pool. Recently, when the new owner was doing orientations with new clientele 2 dogs were brought in during our swim time and our dogs immediately stopped swimming and began engaging the dogs that had suddenly appeared. The new owner did not address the situation appropriately and should have politely asked new clientele to wait in their vehicles until we completed our swim time. The previous owners had this as a standing rule so clients renting out the pool were not disturbed during their 30 min swim time. The new owner asked if we wanted our session comped and stated we just didn't want dogs coming in during our session which until recently had never been an issue. We asked if this would be a problem in the future and the new owner stated you can just take the last session of the day if it's going to be a problem. It appeared the new owner didn't want to extend this simple courtesy. My spouse texted back and forth with the new owner stating that we would wait until Heather returned prior to scheduling another appointment. She abruptly, credited the remaining balance of our $1,200 punch card and sent us a comp for our session that had been interrupted without discussing with us first. Apparently, losing an established client after 2 years is this new owners only solution to this "new" issue which was never a problem with the previous owners. I sincerely hope that the "New" ownership can adopt/enforce the established policies the previous owners had in place. This would create a safe, clean, and enjoyable environment for everyone.

Ice Fishing was my favorite part of our trip…read more We did a lot of fun things on our trip to Alaska and ice fishing was by far my favorite. My husband may disagree but that's only because I caught more fish than him... Dustin is the shop owner and an all-around cool guy. He had a great set up for us before we even got to the location - a heated shelter, cameras so we could see below the ice, and rods all ready to go. We enjoyed chatting with him about his experiences fishing all over the world (he won't brag...but he's kind of famous). We're always looking to support Veteran-owned businesses and we're glad to have found The Bait Shack! Don't worry, all of the big char went back into the water to swim another day. But man was it fun! It was so exhilarating to watch these fish come up from the ice. Dustin also made sure they were handled gently and watched for any signs of distress from the fish as we were sending them home. We're fully committed to a summer trip so we can fish out a few Kings with Dustin and his crew. If you're looking for a fishing adventure near Anchorage, call The Bait Shack!

Oh where to begin.... I would like to preface this by saying any community members who ask…read morequestions about the most recent incident have been immediately blocked by the zoo. that is enough of a red flag but i shall explain more ref flags. there have been many instances of aggression from one animal towards the next and with warning signs that have been repeatedly ignored. Most of the aggression is with the bears unfortunately. We have all heard about the most recent event, where a very small, blind, and deaf female bear was placed into the enclosure with a much larger boar (male bear) during peak mating season. that was reckless and resulted in a bear fight, the boar ripping the females skin off of her back, and it took over 30 minutes for the staff to even get to the scene and begin to assess the situation. 30 minutes. the zoo is small why did it take thirty. minutes. mind you, the warning signs hours leading up to the event were noticed by the visitors for the bears unusually closed off and defensive behavior... but the staff didn't care. (picture included) The smaller bear, btw. was never around any other bears... so why the h.. would they throw the small solo non socialized bear with a huge male bear in peak mating season??? COME TF ON NOW DUDE. what an absolutely embarrassing and disgraceful way to represent our beautiful state. common sense says that's a bad idea, but whoever was in charge of the placement shares a brain cell with a rock. NEXT. in 2022 there was a polar bear and another species, i believe a grizzly, housed together. why would you put different species of bears together? especially the 2 most aggressive species.... they also got into a fight before separation. One bear had a pretty messed up bloody jaw and there was no closure to their habitat. The staff allowed their habitat to remain open despite the animals need for "peace and quiet" as well as no regards to the families and young children who came by seeing the poor bear (picture inserted below) NEXT. There were 2 more bears that were constantly on edge constantly fighting. it took MULTIPLE incidents for them to finally separate the bears for good. I could continue with more and more they've done (or didn't do) but i think we get the point. the zoo is a sad excuse for a zoo. they're volunteer based and not part of the AZA and clearly aren't trained properly and have no real knowledge on how to read wildlife behavior and have no intention on maintaining a SAFE and FRIENDLY environment, just money hungry individ

We've had a Clay as our guide a few times before, and he's always fantastic--knowledgeable, patient, and genuinely fun to be around. He made sure we were in the right spots, gave great tips, and kept the energy up all day long, even at 4am. The owners, Lori and Travis, clearly care about their business and their guests. You can tell they've put a lot of heart into making sure every trip is a great experience. The boat was clean, well-equipped, and comfortable, and we came back with not only a great haul of fish but also memories we'll talk about for a long time.
