We went to their store to buy some fish for a band-new freshwater aquarium we had set up with tap water just the day before. But they cautioned us against buying any fish on this visit, because the fish might well die in the water that had not had enough time to clear chemicals that are okay for humans, but NOT okay for fish. The people here are incredibly knowledgeable about their fish! Michael is the fresh water expert, Jayden & Cody the salt water fish experts! But they all are true fish guys. You can trust their info. It's a joy if you're into aquariums like we are and our setup is Salt Water Reef for both tanks! You want a specific fish they'll figure out your current fish types and order you one, after matching their compatibility, consider your aquarium is it reef or not, some fish will eat your corals and corals aren't inexpensive so it saves you $$$ to get their advice. Here's an example of why you test your tank water. I'm on well and my water is high in phosphates and PH is high too so investing in a Reverse Osmosis filter to take out impurities is the key to keeping algae growth to a minimum. "An Algae-Free Tank is a Happy Tank!" They are the go to for aquarium supplies, from the lighting requirements needed for all tank types including the ones needed for reef and coral growth, filtration and tank selection. They are comprehensive and we've all become good friends over the years with these guys! Alaska, coral and fish is hands-down, the best and most advanced aquatic store in Alaska. If you're looking for a store that's beyond your normal PetSmart simple fish and tanks and this is the place to go. They have a large selection of rare freshwater fish, and of course all the supplies needed for the freshwater fish. The other side of the store is a saltwater fish area. That side of the store was extremely impressive to me because I didn't have any knowledge about saltwater fish they not only had the saltwater fish, but they had all the supplies right then and there. The staff was extremely knowledgeable and explained the differences between freshwater and saltwater and everything that I would need for my set up to be successful. This is the only store of its kind in Anchorage. Even if it wasn't, I would argue this place is AMAZING. They have both freshwater tropical and marine fish, coral, shellfish, anemone, etc. Honestly even though the store is small, I was more excited at some of the fish that in large scale aquarium attractions I've been to in the lower 48. The fish are expensive there's no way around it. But these fish are healthy, robust, and kept in immaculate tanks by knowledgeable staff. They also have a good selection of tank chemicals and fish pharmaceuticals. read more

This place has an amazing staff of people who are very knowledgeable about the fish they sell. Better than the big box stores in town. They sell all the same stuff at at little bit higher markup but with experience you cannot beat. Highly recommend this place for someone new or very experienced with having a home aquarium. read more

They will not sell you a fish that will eat all of the other inhabitants of your aquarium.
