There are a couple negative reviews on here that lack context and full understanding. ASPCA is a no-kill nonprofit run by a small but dedicated staff, with some help from volunteers. They care a lot about the animals, and yes that means occasionally rejecting applications. I'm sure that is not a fun part of the job, but the process is there with the best interest of the animals in mind. If you do happen to come in and aren't immediately greeted by one of the people you see, keep in mind it might be someone doing their first day as a volunteer! The adorable cats and dogs here are well taken care of by a nice staff that really just wants to see them go to a good home. If you love animals and have the right home and schedule, consider adopting or fostering!

You might get free cat or dog food, no matter what you ask for. I asked for cat food, and got both cat and dog food. Not complaining, at least my friends cats can get some food! By the way, free food is given between 12noon and 2pm. Remember, you had better not be in a hurry/rush, they have two speeds, slow and reverse.

Oh where to begin.... I would like to preface this by saying any community members who ask…read morequestions about the most recent incident have been immediately blocked by the zoo. that is enough of a red flag but i shall explain more ref flags. there have been many instances of aggression from one animal towards the next and with warning signs that have been repeatedly ignored. Most of the aggression is with the bears unfortunately. We have all heard about the most recent event, where a very small, blind, and deaf female bear was placed into the enclosure with a much larger boar (male bear) during peak mating season. that was reckless and resulted in a bear fight, the boar ripping the females skin off of her back, and it took over 30 minutes for the staff to even get to the scene and begin to assess the situation. 30 minutes. the zoo is small why did it take thirty. minutes. mind you, the warning signs hours leading up to the event were noticed by the visitors for the bears unusually closed off and defensive behavior... but the staff didn't care. (picture included) The smaller bear, btw. was never around any other bears... so why the h.. would they throw the small solo non socialized bear with a huge male bear in peak mating season??? COME TF ON NOW DUDE. what an absolutely embarrassing and disgraceful way to represent our beautiful state. common sense says that's a bad idea, but whoever was in charge of the placement shares a brain cell with a rock. NEXT. in 2022 there was a polar bear and another species, i believe a grizzly, housed together. why would you put different species of bears together? especially the 2 most aggressive species.... they also got into a fight before separation. One bear had a pretty messed up bloody jaw and there was no closure to their habitat. The staff allowed their habitat to remain open despite the animals need for "peace and quiet" as well as no regards to the families and young children who came by seeing the poor bear (picture inserted below) NEXT. There were 2 more bears that were constantly on edge constantly fighting. it took MULTIPLE incidents for them to finally separate the bears for good. I could continue with more and more they've done (or didn't do) but i think we get the point. the zoo is a sad excuse for a zoo. they're volunteer based and not part of the AZA and clearly aren't trained properly and have no real knowledge on how to read wildlife behavior and have no intention on maintaining a SAFE and FRIENDLY environment, just money hungry individ

The emails were friendly so I felt positive.. I arrived at the shelter and Jillian said she had not been emailing me, and some other woman had. So she lied about exchanging emails. Our cat was really upset in her carrier and I almost changed my mind. She took our cat and she refused to let me see where our cat would be placed . She said something about a quarantine which was totally ridiculous. Our cat's shots were very up to date. Then Jillian had me fill out a very lengthy registration for our cat's history on a super tiny laptop which was incredibly difficult to use. I finally was done filling out the forms. I decided to just look through the window to try to see my cat. Jillian came over to me and said in a very rude tone, nothing is needed from you, so you can leave! I was very upset that Jillian would speak to me in such a horribly rude manner. I had donated a lot of towels, to the shelter and they were still sitting on a chair when I left. Not one word of thanks! I looked at my cat on the SPCA website and I felt sick! Our cat was sitting on a stained pet bed and half of the bed was hanging off a shelf. It did not look like a big space and there were no windows. I regret very much giving our cat to SPCA. Jillian should not be working there at all. She's a terrible example of customer service. I will never recommend SPCA to anyone in the community. I would go pay to get out cat back if I could. I am very worried about her. They have a weird rule about that though!

They seem to take on the hardest cases, like cats who need the most medical or socialization care. I love that every cat they adopted out has been fixed, vaccinated and microchipped (although I think most of the rescues do this as well). They always make sure that the cats they adopt out go to the right home. They can be a little strict and particular, but that's because they will always do what is best for the cat no matter what. They have an amazing group of volunteers who work hard to help our community by rescuing cats. I'm very grateful for them! I adopted a cat from them a few years ago and I always Pick Click Give around PFD time!

Animal control asked if we could bring the dog in but it was way too large to fit in my boyfriends car and could have fit in my SUV, but was so spastic it would have definitely done damage to my vehicle which I know no one would help fix. Animal control asked us to just keep it contained and they'd send someone over to pick the dog up. We tried keeping him in the garage but he started body slamming the door so we opened that before he broke it. After about half an hour I called animal control back asking about what time someone would be here because we had to go to work soon. They told me they don't have anyone to come get him so our only option was to bring the dog down ourselves, which I already expressed wasn't really an option. I reiterated how we cannot do that and will just have to let the dog back outside by the time we have to roll out for work and she kept insisting. Absolutely unacceptable to tell someone you're sending someone over when apparently you don't currently have any employees. Completely and utterly unacceptable.
