Today, since there's a sale we're shopping for my office furniture. My buddy Josh it so happened left Scan Home and just moved to Treeforms. So Josh knowing our colors in our new house is looking into getting us some office furniture we might have to order. Before we left, on the wall which caught my eye were these killer Hammer Head sharks. The wife went to the bathroom, and I said, Josh I'm buying them! Josh said they're cool. The 3 others met us at our home and listened to our ideas and took measurements of the areas to be landscaped. Within a week we received quotes from two of the other companies that just parroted back our ideas without any design drawings or detail. The third company jerked us around for 3 additional weeks before telling us they were too busy and gave us a baseless and wildly expensive "estimate" for next year. In contrast, Josie Blumenthal from Faltz came to our house twice to sketch the area, take dimensions and develop our design ideas. On the 2nd trip she took aerial photos with a drone and prepared a concept design based upon our ideas. At our third meeting, Ben Brown, Faltz Landscape Architect, who was mentoring Josie, joined the Team and proposed some new design concepts that we liked a lot. We signed a contract and within a week the Faltz crew was on site. The 3-man crew were experienced, polite and professional. Most of the time while the work was in progress, either Josie, Ben or both were on site, assuring the work was in conformance with the plan. At the end of every workday, the crew cleaned our yard and driveway. Three days later the work was complete. The final product far exceeded our expectations, and we are very happy with the entire Faltz Team, especially Ben and Josie. We felt that Faltz provided a superior product and good value. We'd highly recommend Faltz for your landscape needs.

Rethink Home is a family-owned business located on W. Fireweed across from the VFW Post between Arctic and Spenard. The display floor is filled with an interesting mix of antique furniture, novelty items like 80's icon shirt button pins (Pac-Man, Mr. T, Galaga, Max Headroom, He-Man, and Q-Bert among others), a large detailed oil-style painting of Audrey Hepburn from the movie Breakfast at Tiffany's displayed on the rear wall in the back room, Alaskan memorabilia, and crafts from local artists. Like all of my other reviews on antique stores, my main focus is the vinyl they have in wooden crates set up by the front register. The collection here is relatively small and like the secondhand thrift stores, they will arrive randomly without notice. There was an array of albums from the 40's and 50's up to the more modern artists from the 70's and 80's. I saw a few that caught my attention but unfortunately had to pass on because of the condition of some of the records. Some jazz albums I considered buying had visible surface scratches and split seams on either the top or bottom of the album covers. At $5 to $8 on some of these, these were priced relatively high by their condition alone. However, they did have a separate crate of records that were marked down to $2 or 50% from their original selling price, but again the condition was a concern. The nearby secondhand thrift stores had vinyl in better shape at only $1 apiece or .60 at the lowest with minimal surface scratches or fully intact album covers with the original inner sleeve available. However, the people running this store are very friendly and this place is a good option for anyone looking to purchase some paintings or a detailed wood-carved piece of vintage furniture.

Fred Meyer's employees put themselves at risk of infection every day. They are overworked and understaffed and underpaid. They, along with medical professionals and first responders, are keeping us alive right now. The only difference is that they are paid and respected much less by our society. To clear a few things up: Instacart: is not owned by Fred Meyer. If you have a problem with them, you shouldn't put that on Fred Meyer. Also: Instacart workers are also on the front lines, and need your compassion. It's a GOOD THING: that grocery stores are being strict about returns. THIS DISCOURAGES HOARDING, in addition to being SAFE. In times like this, we should only buy what we NEED. OK, so with that soapbox out of the way: Freddies is doing a great job, all things considered. Social distancing markers are in place on the floors. Employees are constantly sanitizing and/or changing out gloves. Food is getting re-stocked only days after the hoarders take it all. Despite all the added strain, employees remain cheerful and eager to help. Oh, and they are keeping alcohol sales going...essential indeed. Let's be nice, and keep it classy, Anchorage.
