Yelpers near and far listen here and listen closely: you absolutely 100% want to stay at this incredible Bed and Breakfast known as Alaska Heritage House. My dad and I had the opportunity to stay here on Tuesday, July 2, 2019. We just needed a quick place to stay for one night in Fairbanks as we had another flight to Bettles the following morning. So, so many regrets - I wish we had at least two nights here! The place is listed on the National Register of Historic Places!!! How awesome! We stayed in the William Room ($131) which was on the first floor of this beautifully historic bed and breakfast located in the heart of Fairbanks. The manager (?), Melanie, greeted us and got us checked in for the night. We were able to make ourselves feel at home even with all of the antiques everywhere. I was truly amazed and got out my DSLR to take some more photos. We did our laundry every chance we got during our five-week trip so I was quite thankful Melanie allowed us to use the washer and dryer which were located in the basement. Although each room seemed to be booked, we actually didn't see many other guests during our short stay. Like I mentioned before, our stay was short and we had to leave to get back to the airport pretty early. Melanie was so gracious to accommodate us and still provide breakfast despite it being before the normal breakfast time - I really appreciate that! The pancakes, sausage, and fresh fruit were all incredible and I'm not just saying that - it was one of the best breakfasts of the entire trip! I'm going to let the pictures show how great this place is but I do want to note this is one of the oldest buildings in Alaska, built in the 1916s (I think) by a wealthy man to court a female to Fairbanks. It was sold a short while later to author Mary Lee Davis and has since changed owners upwards of 11 times. It's been restored and decorated to reflect the early 19th century. This honestly wasn't my first choice to stay in. I didn't wanna go for the usual hotels where the walls are the same, hallways are generic, and the people pass each other without saying hello. However the one I wanted was fully booked. Well they had one room available but the price was atrocious. However. How. Eh. Ver. Alaska B&B turned out to be the perfect choice. Smack dab in the middle of Fairbanks, everything is within a short drive. It was so easy to find places to eat, drive to neighboring towns for tours and activities, etc. The owners were very nice and accommodating. We arrived way too early prior to check in time but were ushered into our room for some much needed rest after our red eye. Breakfast is served every day between 7:30 - 9:30; there is no menu so what they have is what you'll get. They also have washer and dryer at the basement if you need to dry off some stuff after your Chena Hot Springs tour. As for security, you'll be given the pass code to enter the house anytime. Just make sure to lock it each time for security. The house is over 100 years old. It's got a lot of character. Definitely a nice step away from the usual hotel environment where you're just one of the passing occupants. read more

I can't believe my luck in getting a room here during AFN 2016! Well it was only for the first night of the entire conference but it was a great experience staying at this bed and breakfast. It's not just your typical place of lodging but a cozy and homey experience. A big part of that is due to Melanie. She is awesome and made my stay warm and inviting. I was only scheduled to stay for 1 night in the Williams Room and then shift over to Super 8 for the rest of my stay. I was set to arrive in Fairbanks around 10am on a Tuesday. Melanie called me on Monday to ask what time I was arriving because if after 10pm, they had a protocol to get into the building as it's usually locked and the owners don't stay onsite. I thought that was really nice because usually places will just expect their guests to read that type of fine-print when booking. When I arrived, 5 hours before check-in time, Melanie rushed to clean my room for me so that I could settle into my room earlier. In the meantime she told me to have a seat in the dining hall while I waited. I was amazed at all the antique and vintage things were in this historic place. Some shipped from Europe decades ago. The whole place was just beautiful and I could see why it is on the Historic Register. There were freshly made cinnamon rolls and round-the-clock candy and tea and coffee set out that I enjoyed. Melanie got me into my room around 11am which was again so nice of her. I really was expecting that I would leave my luggage and have to wander around town to kill some time before the typical check-in time of 3pm. This was great service going above and beyond. The Williams room was very cute and cozy. Sad that I didn't see that the TV was hidden in a cabinet in the wall but it didn't matter much as I didn't have time to watch it anyway. This room shared a bathroom with the Maids Room, and I didn't mind it for 1 night but the one complaint I have is that you have to constantly lock both the doors to the bathroom that enter into the 2 different rooms, and this lock was one of those metal sliding locks. So everytime someone went to the bathroom I could hear that metal clang on the door and it would wake me up. Usually I'm a pretty good sleeper but I'm more sensitive when I'm in new places. So just a heads up for those of you that are like me and stay in the Williams room. Other than that though, my stay was great. Breakfast was amazing. Melanie will make you whatever you want and ask you if you have food allergies. She made me waffles with a ton of fresh fruit, scrambled eggs and also offered me bacon (which I declined as not a big bacon fan). It was all delicious and she offered me seconds. Again, totally above and beyond. I love this place and would love to stay again if I ever am back in Fairbanks. Melanie will make you feel like you're at home-she's very friendly and helpful for all your questions. read more

We had a great stay at Alaska Heritage House. Perfect place to stay as a home away from home! Breakfast served daily as part of your stay. We woke up early specifically to eat the yummy food provided! Our host was so accommodating and nice! We received everything and anything we needed. It was really cool to learn the history of the property and a little history about the town of Fairbanks. Definitely would recommend staying here. Great value for the money. read more

We stayed here in July 2021 in the Blanche Cascaden room. What a treat! This room was great: queen bed and a separate single bed on the other side. Plenty of space, and two comfortable chairs with a sitting table for us to enjoy at the end of our day. The owner Telsy is wonderful. Very warm and friendly, and she made us feel right at home. She was able to provide a wonderful breakfast that met our dietary needs, and she gave us all the "insider tips" to Fairbanks. Truly a perfect host! This bed-and-breakfast was a real disappointment for us. The owner was completely absent, never met him. I am assuming this is a new owner because when I read the reviews there was someone to greet and welcome and there was a hot breakfast included. We paid twice the amount that was listed in previous reviews and there was no hot breakfast and no one to greet us, Give recommendations, or a history of the place. I would not recommend staying here without asking a lot of questions first. read more

What a great find! This wonderful B-N-B was awesome! The owner is wonderful, down to earth and will tell you the history of this very important home listed on the National Register of Historic Places. The draft for the first constitution for the present day State of Alaska was written in this home!!! We were so lucky we couldn't find any other accommodations in Fairbanks at the last minute, because this was the best place we stayed during our trip. Everything in the house is special- everything tells a story. There is so much history. The house is also so well preserved, with most of the original furniture that you can actually sit on! The rooms- we stayed in two (our own scheduling fault)- are super clean, nicely decorated (period) with historical photos and items pertaining to Alaskan history- or the house itself. Both the owner and staff were wonderful hosts. They were both so accommodating to all our requests. We also enjoyed breakfast with other guests- we stayed about two hours at the dining table. This is a wonderful bed and breakfast! The couple running it are kind and very accommodating! My room is clean, quaint and comfortable. I love the feel of this place, almost old southern. I'm 3000 miles from home but I feel much better now that I am here! Free books to read while you are staying & breakfast in the morning. My stay at Alaska Heritage B&B was one of the best travel experiences I have had. As a history lover, it was so fun to see how each room kept with the theme and time period of the person it was named for. Bed was comfortable and bathroom was spacious with abundant hot water. Telsie (the inkeeper) was very kind and an amazing cook! Breakfasts here should not be missed. She also had great suggestions for a tourist new to Alaska. 10/10 will be staying here again! The hotel definitely lives up to its name, and offered a glimpse into what Fairbanks was like in earlier times. The Garden Room was very comfortable & full of character. The breakfast was simple but perfect, and the service was attentive and warm. We had to take an early flight out, leaving well before breakfast hours. Stayed here for about three weeks with a coworker of mine while working in Fairbanks. From the incredibly inviting hosts, the delicious breakfasts, and cozy accommodations, the experience I had staying at the Alaska Heritage House has become my standard for a good B&B. I went to work stuffed every morning and do not regret getting to know the other guests. We sat around the breakfast table sharing stories and things to do in Fairbanks! I quickly felt like a local. I happened to stay at the Alaska Heritage House on Thanksgiving Day, and to my surprise the owners hosted a wonderful Thanksgiving dinner inviting both their friends and all of the hotel guests. I would give the Alaska Heritage House a million stars if yelp would let me for including me in their Thanksgiving celebrations and making me miss my home and family just a little less this year. I will definitely stay at this B&B whenever in Fairbanks and I'm sure you will enjoy your time in Fairbanks all the more if you do as well. A+. read more

My husband and I stayed here for our ten day honeymoon, best decision we ever made. The Alaska Heritage House is by far the best B&B I have ever stayed at, and I have traveled through Europe by B&B's alone. The house is full of history and character, the daily breakfast is always warm and delicious!, and finally the owner Telsie is amazingly wonderful. We were waited on and the staff was extremely accommodating, if you give enough notice you can even have a breakfast to go. The beds are comfortable, rooms are beautiful, free wifi, and is within walking distance to downtown. This place is amazing we can't wait to come back! read more

This is an incredibly beautiful, historic, well maintained house. I was blown away when I entered it and only wished I had more than one night to stay. It was like taking a step back in time. We stayed a few weeks ago and I booked it just a month prior. I actually wasn't looking specifically for a B&B but it came up listed with available hotels when I did a search. I was shocked at how inexpensive it was and I immediately booked it, thankful there were actually vacancies. So glad I did! We had a blast, even if only one night. And it was walking (even in the dead of winter) distance to some amazing Thai food at the Noodle House. Breakfast at the Alaska Heritage House was also delicious! I highly recommend! read more

Beautiful 1916 house furnished with pieces of the period. All of the rooms on the first and second floors were beautiful. I would not recommend the garden room, which is adjacent to the house and used to be the garage. That could use some re-doing. In addition to breakfast, there is always a freshly made cake for guests, as well as candy, pretzels filled with peanut butter, tea and coffee available all day and night. Melanie was our hostess and she is wonderful. Friendly without being to talkative, helpful and lovely. She also makes a delicious breakfast. We also met Gustavo, who is a charming young man and who made us hot chocolate the evening we arrived. read more

Excellent "homey" place to stay in Fairbanks, where you are in a neighborhood and can feel like a local. Downtown shops & restaurants are a short walk, which includes a portion along the river where you an enjoy the artistic wrought iron fence work. Van and/or Mary prepare a delicious breakfast...sourdough waffles were my favorite, and the crispy pancetta was a nice alternative to bacon. Van has a nice cake out every afternoon, and there are apples/oranges for the taking. Like many B&Bs, the rooms are variable, with interesting bathrooms. We had two different ones during our divided stay, and both had fun cast iron tubs with beautiful brass hardware. Everything was clean & comfortable, and it was a treat to have a pup like Mable to greet you. read more

My family and I stayed in the Bunker room the week of the Summer Solstice 2014. It was an easy walk from the Alaska Heritage House to downtown to enjoy the Chenya River and the Festival. The owner prepared delicious breakfasts each morning, far better and far more then I ever prepare for my family at home. She was a great source of knowledge about activities and suggested several things to see that we hadn't found in our research. We felt like we were at someone's home as a guest, not the impersonal feel of a hotel. And she has a darling long haired Dauchsand named Mabel who loved to be petted and filled in for my dogs left aft home during our sojourn to Alaska. read more

Late reviewing, I stayed here in December 2015 right before Christmas, and after 4 nights in a state public use cabin I was delighted by everything offered. The host was wonderful and a joy to talk to, the food was excellent, and the ambiance of the place was sublime--cinematic in a way.
