Kathy Alonzo was our host and she was a wonderful host. We stayed with her for six nights and every morning, she made a delicious breakfast for us. When I'm on vacation, I like to sleep in and wake up like at noon or in the later afternoon, but here, I would get up at 7:30am just to have a serving of her yummy food. On our arrival, she took my husband and I out to a saloon and made burgers for us there. At home, she read poems to us in front of a fireplace. Also, she would alert us when the Northern Lights would come out. THE PLACE: It was impressive and exceeded our expectations. It was a wooden log house that I believe is about 2,000 sq. footage. We had the upstairs bedroom and it had windows that allowed you to see the Northern Lights when they came. Additionally, we had a jacuzzi. We also had two other beds behind our room that was kept separate as if the two beds were in a secret room. Our room was very spacious and super cozy. It's like, we never really wanted to leave our room space because it felt so good just being in there. The house also has a sauna room and a washer and dryer for your clothes. The service we received from Kathy along with the comfort and beauty of her home is unforgettable. Leaving here, was like leaving a family member due to the great relationship we were able to build with her and I HIGHLY recommend her place!

Our room was comfortable, quiet and tastefully furnished. Note that this is a home in the midst of a residential neighborhood, so it did not fit our notion of a lodge. This is not meant as a negative, but rather it just did not fulfill our uninformed expectation. Also, it is 10-15 minutes to get to the airport, train station, or downtown, which was fine for us but to some it may matter. We highly recommend the accommodations if you are looking for a delightful night in Fairbanks.

Also, Bill is such a great person, he has a ton of knowledge and talking to him seemed like I have learned so much about Alaska and other aspects of living. We went for 2 nights, 3 days during the week because the cabin was booked solid almost every weekend. I'd advise at least doing 2 nights as getting out there is a bit of work no matter how ya do it (skiing, hiking, snow machining). We started the 10.1 mile trail out by snow machine around 1:30 and it took a few hours to get there as we got stuck and overheated a few times. Dropped our things and headed off to the hot springs almost as soon as we arrived. Chose the middle - a cedar tub (the other two were plastic) - for our first dip. The second night we did the top one which had a fabulous view -- although you had to stand it in pretty much (the middle one you could comfortably sit and lay down in). The sunrise on our second morning was stunning - purpled, oranges and blues! I'm only sorry I didn't snag a photo of it riding behind our cabin (I'd misplaced my phone during the fun the previous night). We also rode down to the lakes in our snow machines the second day -- it was absolutely beautiful and the boys really enjoyed sliding around and doing 360s on the ice of the frozen lake. Lots of trails to choose from too. AN ADVENTURE DEFINITELY WORTH HAVING!

This is a rundown apartment complex from the 80s badly in need of…read morerenovation, but I give two stars because the trails around the wildlife refuge are very nice to walk. The worst thing about the property is that it is supposed to be non-smoking "all suites" and we open the door to our two bedroom suite, and it was like walking into an ashtray. The smell hits you in the face so strong and horrible with stale smoke like the previous people , or previous hundred people, had been chain smoking. This was a nasty, smelly shock when we were expecting a non-smoking room . We asked to be moved to another room and they did and that one also smelled strongly of smoke but not as bad as the first one. It should be made clear and imperative to housekeeping staff that if they walk in to clean a room that smells of smoke when it should not have been smoked in it should be immediately reported to management so that they can do an ozone treatment on it before it is booked again though after years, and currently being smoked in I don't know if anything would really clear that stink. I have never before booked a non-smoking room anywhere and walked in to have it smelling like smoke. They should just give up on advertising these as non-smoking rooms. Another problem is that it's oil heated, and the boiler tapped all night, interfering with sleep . The microwave is worn and looks like it's from the 90s, as do the other kitchen appliances, as does the whole suite, as do the exterior buildings, some of which, clearly visible, are apartment buildings with long-term residence with bicycles and barbecues on the balconies! The shelf paper on the shelves is tattered and worn. The bedspreads are 90s and extremely heavy and fall off the bed . The main entrance lobby and check-in is nice, but then you are sent across the parking lot to your room number which is still signed like the original apartment buildings. There are no elevators so you are dragging your suitcases up stairs. This suite was over $300 per night and we expected much better. The place is not a resort, and our two bedroom "suite" an old two bedroom apartment that had been smoked in for decades. I asked for, and expected the price to be adjusted and they took off $20 per night for the three nights we were there, paying over $1000 total .This was not anywhere near an adequate adjustment. I wish that we had just left immediately upon smelling strong smoke in a room advertised as nonsmoking, and it is really nervy to be charging resort prices for an old apartment complex.

I later learned that these buildings were meant to house workers when there was an influx of people in Fairbanks during the Alaskan pipeline construction. Well now they are being used as hotel rooms/suites. It was just my husband and me staying there for 2 nights, and we had 2 queen size beds and a flat screen tv in the bedroom, plus a living room with a pullout sofa bed, a love seat, and an even larger flat screen tv. There was also a full kitchen and a small dining room area. (Even a large walk-in closet!). Someone could easily live here for a year or more! Our sliding glass door had a view of a wooded area, and if you went outside in back it was kind of a shared balcony that all the apartments on that floor had access to. The grounds were very well maintained and there were flowers planted all around to give it a park like setting. There was a nature/conservation area right out back with several marked trails; but the mosquitoes were so bad that we only made it about 1/10 of a mile before we had to turn back around. There was a restaurant and a bar in the main building. (We checked out the bar, and the service was friendly, and there were a few other friendly customers hanging out; but the menu was a bit limited and overpriced for what it was. Plus it didn't stay open very late.) I was surprised that there was no convenience store/gift shop on the premises. They did sell some bagged chips at the front desk, and there was a soda machine and a snack machine in the lobby. There was a convention center right next door and an adjacent automobile museum, but we didn't have time to check it out. All in all it was a well-maintained facility with a friendly staff.

This campground is super close to the highway, but far enough off that you don't hear the cars passing by. It's $10 for tent camping with a fire ring and picnic table. $20 for a hard side tent with two cots and two sleeping bags with pillows. I'm not sure what the cost is for RV hook up but they had plenty of spots available. Free wifi available to all. They offer two male and two female showers and toilets in a code access building. Very friendly staff. And within walking distance is "downtown" which has two restaurants, a bakery, and a microbrewery. Also.... what an amazing spot to catch the northern lights!!

The staff are friendly and helpful and you can tell how much they truly care about the property. The bathrooms/ showers are always clean, the laundry mat is as well. Our family is in North Pole but we prefer to stay at Rivers Edge in spite of there being other parks closer. We did eat at Chena's Alaskan Grill this past may. They had changed to only having a buffet. It was a tad expensive for my taste but the food was very good and the service was too. The Rivers Edge Rv park is our home away from home while visiting Fairbanks.

I paid $1,600 upfront for one month and explained my situation to the office staff, including that I would probably be extending for an additional 2-3 weeks. I was hoping for a little compassion and understanding during a very difficult time, but that was not my experience. Once I parked, I realized the sites were very small and cramped, with the picnic table sitting right by the sewage line. There was very little room between campers, and it was not what I expected. Also the WiFi was very slow and almost none existent. I was told the overflow parking could be used for guests or an extra vehicle, so I had a friend park there when she visited. I was never told she needed to check in at the office first or that there would be a fee. Over the Fourth of July weekend, my friend parked in the overflow lot and, within minutes, two office employees came over and rudely told her she could not park there because the park was "full." In reality, there were around 20 overflow spaces and only one vehicle parked there all day. The next day, I went into the office to ask where a guest could park if they were picking me up. I was told there was a $10-per-day parking fee, but that I would not be charged because I was staying long term. I had no problem paying, but that had never been mentioned when I checked in. I was also told my friend's vehicle had been trespassed from the property for parking there a few days earlier. My friend was never contacted by police or notified and only found out when she returned to visit. She had to park outside the park and walk in. I only had company over five times total, and they never stayed more than an hour. The staff's communication was inconsistent, and the rules seemed to change as they went. I felt singled out and harassed throughout my stay. At that point, I had been planning to extend for another month, but I decided not to. The day before I checked out, my son stopped by for about five minutes to load my barbecue into his truck. Despite the park being nearly empty and check-in not starting until 4 p.m., staff were knocking on my door and questioning us almost immediately. This was one of the hardest times in my life, and I expected professionalism and kindness. Instead, I experienced rude treatment, confusing policies, and constant harassment. I would not stay here again or recommend this park.

Not only did we find a random person sleeping in one of the beds of our private room one night, but we were also yelled at for having a beer in the dining room as this is "a non drinking hostel". This rule is not listed on any websites, including Billie's, in the hostel itself or upon checkin, or on any 3rd party bookings. We also had to share our "private" space with someone who enjoyed chanting at night outside our room at a loud volume. Really horrible experience, wouldn't recommend to anyone.

As an…read moreout-of-town'er working in Fairbanks over the summer, I used their tenting sites to car-camp in my Toyota 4-Runner while waiting to move into my rental house. At $25 you can't beat it, especially considering the astronomical hotel prices in Fairbanks. To that end, the campground served it's purpose in my "just to get by" situation. Unfortunately the shower facilities were closed during my stay because they were being renovated. I wasn't happy to discover the closed-off showers & restrooms because it was't mentioned on the website. As a matter of fact, the website still touts the showers as an available amenity, and the reservation confirmation email includes the entry codes for the digital combination locks on the shower building doors. It wasn't until my attempts to get into the shower building when I learned that they were closed for renovation. (The combo code was no good). That irked me, but it was't a deal-breaker. I had access to showers at my work as well as a local gym, so I adapted and kept on camping. This probably won't be the situation for other campers though, so the campsite owners are leaving themselves wide-open for confrontations with rightly-infuriated customers. Don't worry about trying to use the Wi-FI. If you do happen to be in an area of the campsite where it actually connects to your device, it does little more than infuriate you with an unusable snail's pace. Then it kicks you off and tells you that you have the wrong password. Then the password magically works again just long enough to disappoint you with its slow uselessness. But hey. It's a campground. Don't get on the internet. Build a campfire and swat mosquitos like mother nature intended. The main area of the campground, (mostly RV sites and a few tent sites), is clean and quiet. The double-letter tenting sites are in a separate section, much closer to the road. I skipped around the different tenting sites from evening to evening just to check things out. I prefer the single-letter sites that are in the main campground area, but the double-letter sites aren't too bad either. They all served their purpose of giving me a quiet place to park so I could get a good night's sleep. If the place had been much more than $25 for a tent site, I doubt I would have stayed there very long.

Yes their hours have been a bit crazy due to the gal that normally worked the office has had COVID for the last 9 days! We stayed there for 5 nights and it was great. Yes they aren't brand new facilities but the laundry was good (was just $2 wash and $2 dry). It's close to everything! Was pretty quiet as there's only 30 sites and half of them are non-electric.
