When I walked in I didn't know whether to relax on the deck and enjoy the scenery or lie down on one of the beds and take a nap. If I could afford a vacation home, this is exactly what I'd want. My words won't do it justice, but I'll try. The lodge is in Indian, about halfway between Anchorage and the bus depots for people traveling to Whittier or Seward. The views of snow capped mountains and ocean water of Turnagain Arm are unforgettable. We were even able to watch passing Beluga whales for a few minutes. The lodge has three floors, three full baths, four HUGE comfortable beds and two smaller beds. There are upper and lower living rooms with big windows looking out at the mountains, as well as a full open kitchen for socializing. There is a wide deck around 3 sides with a railing that even a toddler couldn't get through, plus lots of chairs, deck chairs and rocking chairs. Roger and Arlene, the owners, are a lot of fun, and can really entertain with their stories of Alaska and gold mining. After several days of sightseeing, this was the most beautiful and perfect place to rest and relax. The icing on the cake.

In the evening, as you are enjoying your evening drink of choice, you will decided your next days adventure. Fly-outs are a thrill. Landing on a small pond or river just adds to the fishing adventure. Once you have rousted you gear from the plane you will hike down to the river. Your day could be a float down a river or a hike up or down. No matter which you choose, you will come back to Kulik with many stories of your days adventure. Kulik is "rustic", but with first class service. Meghan will make sure when you return to you room, beds are made and everything is spotless. Lindsco in the kitchen will make sure your tummy isn't being forgotten too. Breakfast is basically anything you want. Lunch, most times you guide will be carrying your choice of sandwich and treats to be eaten on the river. Dinner is family style with anything from roast beef to lamb loin chops to salmon. Yes, there's breakfast but it's nothing special and it is not a sit-down hot breakfast. The location is awful. Yes, it's close to the airport so if you need to be close to the airport that's a good thing I guess. But there's nothing other than a gas station and a couple of chain restaurants (McDonalds, etc.) within walking distance. And because it's right on Lake Hood the seaplanes are taking off and landing throughout the day which is VERY loud. If you're hoping for a mid-day nap be sure to bring earplugs. The entire hotel is decorated in a plane/flying theme - it was way over the top in my opinion but I guess that appeals to some people. The rooms are very dated (think early 90s) but clean and comfortable. The prices are really high, it was more expensive than the awesome B&B we stayed in just a few days prior (Wildflower Inn near downtown Anchorage, do yourself a favor and book there), and it didn't even have a full breakfast. The woman (owner?) who checked us in was nice but a bit disorganized. Overall I would not recommend this hotel, there's places that offer much plusher rooms and amazing breakfasts for less cost.

I have heard stories about how it was quite the place back in the day, but now it just strikes me as odd. They have less oil and gas folks than they once did which speaks to how anchorage has changed, but I never would have expected a baby to appear in the bar of the PCA but it happened. The food is nothing special and the service isn't the quickest but if you want to have an a good place to people watch, this is it!

If you're in for a bit more of the long haul, the wings, steak bites, pork bellies, and phillys are all outstanding. There seems to be a contingent trying to make the two-martini lunch cool again, and while I will not join them (until 5), I applaud and support their efforts. Still a private club, so not everyone can go, but getting set up as a member is cost effective compared to what I think people might be imagining. Check it out!

There's a nice boardwalk that encircles the pond which is filled with lily pads. As we walked around the lake we saw baby ducks swimming which just added to the serenity of the nature outside. Inside the venue there's a kitchen/bar and an upstairs area which was used by the bridal party to get ready - and hide from the groom! Views from the balcony are just beautiful! Flowers, trees and mountains. It's really breathtaking! You are responsible for cleaning up and table decor. The owners were very kind! My favorite thing was he fact that with the customers consent, they will donate the center pieces to the nursing home nearby.
