I`ve been insulin dependent 30 years. More recently, trying a new med. I`ve had hypoglycemia more than I have in 30 years. HOWEVER, I have had to call the Physicians after hours for assistance. 48 is a frightening number. I couldn`t be more impressed by the knowledge and professionalism that I`ve been helped by. I think it`s important to keep expectations in view of the bigger picture for our region. There`s a tremendous provider shortage. Do what you can to be your own advocate and part of the healing. Staff, lab attendants, and physicians are friendly and I am usually seen on time. However, the phone system needs some work. The only time you can actually speak with a human is when making or changing an appointment. Any other department it goes to an answering machine and no one ever calls back. read more

Find another place. Find someone who actually cares. I have seen 3 Doctors here and they are all the same. When you talk to them, it's like talking to a brick wall. Dr. Leinung can't even look you in the face when he talks to you. It's like you are a complete waste of his time and he could care less. He never smiles and treats you as if you're a scumbag. Doesn't listen to anything you say, and only cares about the numbers. If your bloodwork comes back normal, he just shrugs his shoulders and implies there is nothing wrong (instead of trying to help you find out WHAT is really causing the symptoms). If your blood test comes back showing an issue, he will tell you that you are not taking your medication properly. Good Grief Charlie Brown. I have been going here for a few years now and I am still no further along. Horrible! The give away that this was a chop shop Doc that gets em and in out was the rope. The rope. The rope that you see at a club, a bank or waiting to see a movie. A line rope. Yup....a line to check in with the front. The horrible Doc I saw knew nothing about hashimoto or hypothyroidism. I knew more than him. I begged to be put on Armour. Ok sure. DONT LISTEN TO THE BAD REVIEWS!! My Doctor is John Dowling. I absolutely love him, he's 100% better than Dr.Shawa ever was. He made such an effort to get me back on a medication that CDPHP had decided was not covered when it was working so well for me. Dr.Shawa simply put me on a medication that didn't work and left it at that with no effort at all. Dr. David is polite, quiet and knows his stuff!! I am 100% pleased with the care I am getting. Remember there are some people you can not please no matter how hard you try to help them. **If you are going to be late for your appointment CALL! You can not expect the entire office to shut down because you are late for your appointment! **If you are not happy with a Doctor or Nurse do something about it, take charge of your health care. There is no reason to sit there and let someone poke you 5 times..I stop at 2 times. Doctor Warshaw is without a shadow of a doubt the absolute worst doctor I have ever met. He needs to be fired and have his medical license stripped from him. Treats his patients worse than the DMV. His front desk staff made me wait more than an hour and would not allow me back until I was in the system after showing up ten minutes late because of a snow storm. Doctor Warshaw yelled at me for being an hour late and treated me subhumanly, cattle are treated better at the butcher shop. He then called in three times for my prescription, yet forgot some of the medical supplies. There's another doctor/PA there who is supposedly able to actually do his job. I'm giving that guy a chance. However, if you ever get offered Dr Warshaw, make sure to say NO! Shoot, i would scream it emphatically unless you want to be treated like shit and are an avid fan of having a medically incompetent doctor! read more

I see Hassan Shawa, M.D. I had an appointment back in March 2013 and the reception girl never checked me in. 2 plus hours of waiting then I finally get in the the doctor pushes me through. Then they tell me another 1 1/2 to 2 hour wait for blood-work because they are so far behind. So far I am not impressed. read more

I have been going here since I was diagnosed with diabetes 25 years ago and have seen various levels of competencies. However, since becoming pregnant, I realized that they literally know nothing about diabetes during pregnancy and don't care. I left every appointment in tears feeling like I am harming my baby and not getting any answers from them. I recently switched to a new endocrinologist (St. Peters Endo) and they are AMAZING. I wish I had been with them since the beginning of my pregnancy. Please don't go here. The doctors/students, whoever they are have no idea what they are doing. read more

We met with Dr. Shawa, who was taking over my mother's doctor's caseload while she was on temporary medical leave. Dr. Shawa was fantastic. He made himself available on short notice, because my mother was ill. He was extremely patient while we helped him get up to speed on my mother's multiple conditions and her immediate needs. His questions were pointed and clear. What we found particularly helpful was his additional training in cancer at MD Anderson, since my mother has concurrent illnesses. He was able to advise us on treatments relevant to my mother's endocrine issues but also relevant to her cancer. His advice seemed extremely thoughtful - while some tests could easily be done, the evidence did not seem to support her needing to endure those tests. Dr. Shawa was just extremely knowledgeable about my mother's multiple conditions and recommended new treatments that research seems to favor for her conditions. We are just extremely grateful for the time he took with us, the expertise he provided, and the evidence-based strategies and hope we have for the near future. Thank you, Dr. Shawa. read more

After being diagnosed with thyroid cancer I had been seeing an endocrinologist in New Hartford, NY who had no idea what he was doing. Four months following surgery, my thyroglobulin was still very elevated when it should have been close to zero. My endocrinologist assured me my cancer had been caught early, but never prescribed enough Synthroid to lower my TSH in order to suppress the growth of cancer cells. A majority of the time this cancer is cured with surgery and a radioiodine treatment. However, I'm 24 years old and I had a moderately large tumor at 4cm which to my understanding had begun to grow into my trachea, and invade nearby lymph nodes. It wasn't until I was referred to DR. HASSAN SHAWA that I was told something else was going on. He immediately sent me in for a CT scan, which showed the cancer had spread to my lungs. On the initial visit with him, he spent an HOUR with me. He did an ultrasound on me PERSONALLY, thoroughly explained the diagnosis, answered all of my questions and explained the next steps that needed to be taken. For thyroid cancer to have metastasized at age 24 isn't typical, but he didn't go off the statistics as my other endocrinologist had and instead did what needed to be done to find out what was going on. Every time I have a question, I speak with the receptionist initially and DR. SHAWA calls me back within a few hours at MOST. If it wasn't for DR. SHAWA, who knows how long it would have taken for the cancer in my lungs to have been found. After having awful experiences with multiple doctors, and a surgeon who didn't biopsy even ONE lymph node during my surgery, I have to say he has truly made me feel valued as a patient and I have no doubt in his capabilities as a doctor or his recommendations as to what needs to happen next. He's extremely knowledgeable and I'm so grateful to have been referred to this doctor, I highly recommend him! read more

Very glad Dr. Warshaw is gone. He did a biopsy on four thyroid nodules and was actually teaching someone else as he was doing it!! I'm no guinea pig!! On one biopsy, I was actually bleeding! All the while Dr. Warshaw was mumbling words like cancer and "That thyroid has got to come out". I was so worried, but the results came out benign. This ass had me worried for nothing! Treated me like a slab of meat. I am with Dr.Joseph right now and I'm happy with her. Do NOT go to Dr. Warshaw, wherever he is. read more

They totally suck!!! Had a needle aspiration of a thyroid nodules. The doc, Dr. Joseph stuck me 5 X's missed 3 xs hitting my other organs. Within a few days my neck was totally bruised and swollen had difficulty swallowing. It should not be that way. I had the same procedure 10 yrs. earlier by a ENT, only had 1 stick, no bruising, no swelling. Go some place else. read more

Went to see Dr Sharma- I take 2 types of insulin & he changed the amount (units) of 1 of them to a lesser amount. I specifically requested he send a 'new' prescription to my pharmacy. (I actually made the 1st request & two reminders before the visit with him was over) He said not to worry, he'd send it 'right away'. That was TEN DAYS ago. I've been trying for 2 days to get through to the office-I was told I have to wait for sharma's nurse to call me back. That was TWO DAYS ago. Still no prescription. Still no insulin. Guess I'll try to get some at the Emergency Room. But that's not the important stuff. The important stuff is to make SURE you stand in the 'right' line when checking out.
