In the area for the first time, this strip mall is full of goodies. We stopped after dinner at Albasha to satisfy our sweet tooth and it was not disappointing at all. They have an impressive display of choices and all look delicious. We had a hard time selecting so we bought a bunch of things -we overdid it, and that is okay as I had some for breakfast for the next few days - Lucky me I had Knafeh for the first time, it was delicious, and a few different types of baklava. Well, I visited Albasha for the first time in a long time, and apparently things have changed. The interior was totally different, with some counters and tables removed. It was mostly booth seating without tables. Odd. The selection of desserts looked similar to what I remembered, so I ordered my two favorite items: basbousa and harissa. I also got a piece of cashew baklava. Pricing was very reasonable, as it was in the past. Unfortunately, however, the basbousa and harissa were not as good as before. They were dry and stale tasting. The harissa actually had an odd flavor to it - almost sour - which makes me worried that it went bad. The cashew baklava was very good, though, and it only cost $7 for 7 pieces of dessert, so I'd like to still give them 3 stars. Not sure if this was a fluke or if ownership changed, but it's disappointing because Albasha used to be my favorite dessert spot in the Bridgeview area. read more

I used to be obsessed with this place, when the original Albasha bakers still owned it. Grandma made the BEST Shaabiyat; always with fresh, warm cream and crispy pastry. I looked forward to coming here on the weekends, just to order a box full. Then, they changed ownership. The place hasn't tasted the same since unfortunately. Possibly the best Middle Eastern sweets in South Suburbs of Chicago. Very polite people always hand you a sample when you walk in. I've tried a few in Chicago but nothing compares to AlBasha, make sure you get it HOT & FRESH and don't forget to ask for syrup and pistachios for your Knafa. I swear this place serves the most addicting hot knafa and wabrat/Kolaj! I hope they start adding new items to the menu like layalee Lebanon, and the cheese rolls I don't know why you call them. I wish they had a bigger dining area to site with friends or family and enjoy your sweets on the spot. This place is a Chicago treasure. A family business that started on 63rd St with the dad and his sons.The Knafa and specially the BAKLAWA are the best in town. And trust me I put all the baklawa in the area for a taste test, AlBasha Sweets were the winning one. This is a business that are rare to find. HORRIBLE Customer Service on the phone: I usually get authentic olive oil from a local sweets shop. Unfortunately, they're out of it. So, I am trying to find a replacement. I called this place to ask them if they sold authentic olive oil. The woman was so rude. She started yelling and cursing and calling me bad things non-stop that I had to really hang up on her. She called me impolite because I asked if she sold olive oil!!!! I will not even think of having any kind of transaction with this place and I don't recommend it. I have come to this store for years and I can not say enough good things about it. I'm so happy to see all the five star reviews, it's certainly true. The owner is the nicest person, always giving you something to try the second you walk in. The sweets are the best! So fresh and tasty I've not had a single bad item at this store and the pricing is SO fair for what you get and the portion sizes. Every time I go I get the triangles that are philo with cheese and the kunafe and they are both exceptional. Also there are these little balls covered in coconut they are soooo good. So delicious, great service; wish I could have this in San Diego! It deserves its stars.
