I sounded surprised because we never had a chance seeing them open. They open at 2p and we usually leave before that time. My husband loves wine so he had to go in and check it out. Most of the time, wine cellar stores like this don't carry decent selections. But Stave's selections blew my husband's mind. He said majority of their selections are decent and priced reasonably, which it's rare to see nowadays. So we decided to stay and open a bottle of wine that interested him. We also ordered their cheeseboard, which they said we can get more breads if we want. My toddler was a fan of their cheese and bread, she finished most of them. Steven was the gentleman who served us. He was friendly, attentive and patient. After I checked in on Yelp, there was this 10% promotion popped up. I showed it to one of the staffs, and she said they have new promotion of 15% off now - even better! Of course my husband had to get some. We ended up getting additional 6 bottles with the 15% off promotion. Loved our experience there. We enjoyed the atmosphere, the service, the selections. Nothing we can complain. This is a varietal that is usually used as a blending varietal in Portuguese wines. Not many places in the US grow this so it's highly unusual to see it here. Definitely make a reservation if you plan on swinging by in the afternoon. You might be able to walk in if you go when they open.

The wines were so good that we ended up purchasing multiple bottles and had them shipped home (and looking forward to having them). However, the big drawback was that there's no bathroom on-site, which is a surprising and inconvenient issue for a place that serves alcohol. Having to hunt down a restroom elsewhere really took away from the otherwise relaxed experience. Still, if you're prepared for that hiccup, it's a lovely spot to enjoy some truly great wine.

The tasting room itself is on the smaller side, with a stylish, cozy interior with TVs and private tables. I happened to stop by at a quiet time and was seated comfortably at the bar. The gentleman who helped me was relatively new, but you wouldn't have known it since he was incredibly knowledgeable and well-spoken, providing detailed descriptions of each wine on my tasting flight and answering all my questions without hesitation. I enjoyed the wines enough that I ended up purchasing a couple of bottles once I learned they could conveniently ship them to me. My only disappointment was that some of the higher-end wines weren't available to sample, which made it harder to justify buying a $100+ bottle without trying it first. That said, I completely understand the policy (but I definitely could have been sold on one if I could sample it and it was great). So far, I've visited three tasting rooms in the area, and Albatross Ridge might just be my favorite. Great service, delicious wines, and a relaxed vibe. It's definitely worth a visit.

We visited there on the recommendation from a sommelier in Paso Robles based on their excellent sparkling wines. You have choice of ordering a glass of any of the wines or the tasting flight. My partner decided to go with a glass of the Brut Rose whilst I chose the tasting flight (5 wines for $40). All of the wines here are expertly made and of a beautiful style. I can't say there wasn't a wine here that I didn't thoroughly enjoy. The Brut Rose is a beautiful champagne style rose. The Rose of Pinot Noir was also excellent. A fantastic light yet flavorful wine. The chardonnay was also excellent and of a beautiful style with just a touch of oak. Next was their Passetoutgrain, which is a blend of gamay noir and pinot noir. Also in the tasting were two pinot noirs, the base pinot noir and the El Bec. Both were beautiful expressions of pinot noir. Wonderful balance of fruit, earth and spice. Finally, we had to try the Brut Cuvee, which is only offered by the glass. A truly beautiful wine reminiscent of the Champagne region. Service was from a couple of friendly and very knowledgeable attendants. The glassware here is beautiful and perfect for the wine served. The wines were all served at the proper temperature. And the pours were of a generous volume such that you could fully experience the wines. If you're in Carmel, you owe it to yourself to visit Caraccioli.
