While visiting Monterey, I Yelped my way to Comanche Cellars Wine Room. There are plenty of options in the area, but I was in the mood to try someplace new. I'm very glad I did, because this turned out to be one of the best wine tasting experiences I've had in town. The service was fast, friendly, and informative, with staff who really knew their wines and took the time to walk me through their options. The atmosphere was super relaxed and welcoming, and the clientele felt like a good mix of locals and visitors, which made for great energy all around. The wine itself was very good and simply enjoyable across the board. Whether you're a seasoned wine lover or just looking to try something new, this is the kind of place that makes it easy to enjoy the experience. Highly recommended, and absolutely a spot I'll return to the next time I'm in Monterey. read more

I was in town for a solo birthday trip and stopped by for a wine tasting. The wine tasting is affordable - I chose the summer tasting and sat at the bar. The lady (I'm sorry, I have completely forgotten the name!) was very warm and friendly and provided a great explanation to each wine. Once I was done, I asked for dinner recommendations and she pointed me to a few places. She pointed me to the British pub down the street, which was a great recommendation. I had a great time chilling here, reading a book and drinking wine. Would recommend! read more

Comanche Cellars Tasting Room, Monterey, CA - February 6, 2025 We came in around 5:30 on a Thursday evening to do a little wine tasting before heading across the street to hear some music. It's a comfortable and cozy little wine tasting bar with many varietals to choose from. Linsey and Sarah were our servers and they were a delight. They were preparing for a Valentines wine pairing with Girlscout cookies and they shared some of the choices they were working on. I was very pleased with the wine pairings they were considering. Wish I could have been there on Valentine's Day for the actual event. I bet it was a blast for those who attended. They are dog friendly and I'm hoping to bring my young new spaniel with me the next time I come! read more

We wanted to get some wine and hang out, but didn't want to spend an absurd amount at the hotel. We found this place on yelp, which was like a 5 min walk from the hotel. It's such a cute & quaint place to hang out with your girlfriends. We ordered the charcuterie board and did a flight of wine for tasting. Everything was decently priced and service was great too! If you're in the area and looking for a low key place to hang with your girlfriends or even a date, check this out! Note that there is no bathroom inside. read more

Love this place! Small and boutique with great servers. I walked in and didn't want to spend anything ridiculous for a tasting. So $20 for 5? Yes please. Add the yelp voucher and it was only $10. This place is popular understandably! The snacks are also delish. I got a cheese and charcuterie board to pair. Get this, I was waiting to eat next door for some sushi. Me and wife came in here for a wine tasting. It's a small tasting room but very nice. They have a couple different tasting menus. They also have small bites which is really nice. The staff are all very friendly and it's a nice relaxed atmosphere. The wines were good and the pour sizes were generous. Recommend to stop by and give a try. read more

The tasting room is adorable & they have done a great job with their seating packages. This location is smaller, so attending with a group of 2-3 would be recommended. The tastings are excellently priced & the pours are generous. The wines are very good. My opinion is they excel in their reds, but they do have a sparkling white wine that is really well done. The tasting itself took upwards of 2 hours, which is too long. There was an expectation (from reviews on Yelp) that staff was going to be warm & inviting, etc. Unfortunately, our group was met with quite the opposite from the moment we walked in. Hospitality can be tough. I would recommend the Pinot Noir & their Syrah. read more

Comanche is an excellent winery to visit whether you're local or taking a vacation in this sweet city. I've been to winery many times with friends and family and have always felt warmly welcomed by the friendly staff and the overall ambiance - the design and decor here is beautiful. This time my husband and I were trying out the new tasting flights, each menu thoughtfully curated. The tasting fee is also waved if you purchase a few bottles, which we did! I have been here a few times as a local that just in general avoids the downtown chaos for the most part. But I had heard good things and decided to try - the staff that I encountered (Yasser, Lindsey and Angela) were all very kind and in my opinion, did a great job to make you feel welcome in the environment. I would say this is a great place for a casual hangout with friends, the ambiance is perfect. And the prices are reasonable. They also allow you to order sushi from Kuma and have it as you sample their wine, which I thought was a beautiful experience - a truly charming experience. read more

After long days, I don't complain but wine, especially when there is a 2-for-1 deals on flights upon checking-in on Yelp. Comanche Cellars delivers on local selections and affordable prices. There is indoor and outdoor seating. However, it can get busy and service is slow. See below for more info: 2-for-1 Flight Deal: Upon checking-in on Yelp, Comanche offers a 2-for-1 deal on flights. This is such an amazing deal, worth $15-$20 depending on your selection. I highly recommend y'all take advantage of this great offer. Local Wine Selections: Comanche has local wine selections. Whether you are drinking a glass, having a flight, or buying a bottle, there is an option here for all palates. I got the flight of the day for $20 and got to sample a rose, white and three reds, all of which went nicely together. Wines come with complimentary breadsticks and water. Rose: My favorite of the five. The wine was dry and light. White: The Chardonnay was medium in body and tannins. Reds: The three red selections were high in tannins and earthy. Affordable Prices: Prices are affordable, even in a tourist destination. Glasses are $10-$18, flights $15-$20, and bottles $28-$60. Boards are $12-$20. If you are part of the wine club, you get a discount. Indoor and Outdoor Seating: There is an indoor and outdoor seating. However, there are only two tables outside and a combination of bar seating, couches, and high bars inside. Busy: Comanche is a great wine option, so of course it can get busy. If you want to avoid the crowds, get your wine on early in the day, i.e., before six in the evening. Slow Service: One aspect of wine bars I like is the relaxing ambiance. Yet, this may not be everyone's preference. The service here is slow. I got here when there was only one other party around five and the wait time was about 30 minutes per pour. However, service appeared much more attentive and friendly towards bigger parties. Luckily, I was in no rush and just making the most of the start of the weekend. read more

Giving this little wine bar 4 stars for the great vibes! We walked in on a Wednesday, which happened to be bingo night (with some hilarious puns interspersed in between). There were two tasting flight options available, both priced at $20 for 5 wines. Our standouts were the 2020 Dog & Pony Trousseau and 2020 Dog & Pony Il Rinnegato. IMO this wine bar is unique, carrying some lesser seen single grape varietals like carignane and negrette. Definitely worth checking out if you're in the area! read more

This is the perfect spot to stop by and do an indoor wine tasting. The whole staff is very welcoming and friendly. Visited this boutique wine bar twice, on 11/3/2023 decided to give it a try, had heard wonderful things about the place. The tasting fee is very reasonable and the pours are generous, the staff very welcoming and friendly, we had Lindsay and she seemed very knowledgeable about the wines and area, when we mentioned dinner, she suggested the sushi place next door, she went out of her way to bring us a menu and place the order and the food was br5ought over o the wine bar!! A great experience, loved it!! On 12/18/23, got tickets to their ugly sweater and dumpling party, it was so much fun, wine and dumplings we4re yummy and even had some dumplings to take home!! What a delightful and unexpected surprise! We were on our way to dinner and thought we should stop and have a glass of wine. My partner night love the whites and we're not disappointed. In fact, discovering they had a cheeseboard had us cancel our dinner, plans and take on a wine flight. The winds are simply easy on the palate. The cheeseboard @ $20 rivaled more expensive serves locally. When we entered, we were the only people there by the time we left after a game of Bingo, make that two games of Bingo and a cheeseboard, the room was hopping! Met some delightful folks from London, a couple of tables of locals, and it felt like a private party. In fact, they host private parties. It's right smack dab in the middle of Alvarado Street and I couldn't be happier. Congratulations on a job well done. read more

What a wonderful wine tasting experience. We came in on a rainy day and I popped my head in asking (quite desperately) are dogs ok inside?) to a very enthusiastic yes as a response. This tasting room has plenty of tables as well as bar seating and the most wonderful staff. We opted for a Spanish wine tasting as well as the tasting of the day so my partner and I could try all the things. We ended up taking 5 bottles home. Extra stars for being so kind to our dogs. One of my dogs is antisocial and fine hiding behind the chairs while my 90lb boxer was whining until she ended up on my partner's lap. The tasting room staff kindly gave my dogs snacks and made us feel very welcome in spite of my dogs being prissy and I'm very grateful. I ended up enjoying both flights but highly recommend the Spanish flight as we mostly took home wines from that menu. Great variety but especially if you enjoy Pinot noir. Overall wonderful experience and we're looking forward to our next visit. read more

I really enjoyed my visit at Comanche this past weekend. It's right on the main street of downtown Monterey, and feels casual and inviting. The staff was very welcoming, approachable, and knowledgable. My husband and I shared a summer flight wine tasting, glass of sparking rosé, and cheese board. We ended up taking home two bottles of our favorites: 2020 Dog & Pony Albariño, and 2019 Pet Nat Sparkling Rosé. We were waiting for our table to be ready next door and were lucky to do some wine tasting while we waited. Daverle was the best hostess. She welcomed us with open arms and introduced us to the delicious Pet Gnat sparkling rose. We drank two bottles and bought an additional two bottles to take home. What a great little spot in downtown Monterey! The staff is so friendly and very knowledgeable about wines and Monterey history. They are also very welcoming to dogs! We ordered the charcuterie plate with our wines and we enjoyed learning about the history of Monterey Jack cheese and sampling some other local jams and cheeses. Was in the mood for wine tasting and Comanche Cellars stood out to me as a good place to try. They're dog friendly so I was able to bring my pooch in with me. They have seating available at the bar or in comfortable chairs in either corner of the room. You can order wine by the glasses or choose from two of their tasting menus - 5 tastings that come with 2 white and 3 red, or a 4 pinot noir tasting. My husband and I decided to go with the former and settled in to enjoy our wine and the complimentary breadsticks they had on the table. I'm usually a white wine type of gal and I was very surprised that out of everything I had the Trousseau was my favorite. It's a very light wine, nicely balanced with some sweetness but also a very strong peppery taste. Normally I wouldn't like wines that have that peppery kick to it, but in this wine, it worked. We ended up leaving with a bottle of this to go and for purchasing a bottle, we got a 2 for 1 tasting price. Overall, Comanche Cellars is a great place to relax with friends and enjoy some tasty wine! read more

What began as a passion for wine and winemaking for owner Michael Simons turned a basement project into a sustainable winery. In 2018, we opened Comanche Cellars Wine Room in downtown Monterey. I was very close to hiring my own day-of coordinator after doing all of the planning myself, but ultimately decided to have faith in the Events by Classic team. Luckily, Susan was our day-of Event Manager and ended up staying with us the entire day. She did a great job executing the decor, managing vendors, and making our day as smooth as possible. The event staff were friendly, kind, and very attentive and the food was fantastic! Many of our guests commented on how good the food was. All in all, we are happy we had our wedding here!

It was super windy, and Charlene had great advice on how to handle my long veil. They were prepared for everything. Since we had a small guest count we even got to add on a slew of extra desserts to reach our food and beverage minimum and additional decor/rental items which was great because it felt like every dollar went towards something. They were even accommodating to our specific signature cocktail requests which were off-menu and our specific NA beer requests. Everything the day of the wedding went smoothly and without a hitch. I was torn about whether to stay in Carmel by the Sea or Monterey so when I did a google search for hotels and saw this one had great reviews I picked it. I was on day 9 of my trip, was exhausted and flying back to New York the next day so I really just wanted a quality, safe, clean, nice hotel to end my trip and that didn't happen. The hotel is massive, it gave me real old school, resort vibes. Enormous lobby with televisions, dark wood chairs, giant bar and restaurant but it was horribly outdated. I mean, green carpet, I felt like I was back in the 90's. I checked in they could not find my reservation. I had booked on hotel tonight and they asked me what kind of room I booked. I told them one with a view and a manager came out and told me they didn't have any ocean view rooms. It was 10:30 at night, at this point I didn't care I just wanted to go to sleep. Eventually, after waiting at the front desk for a half hour they were able to locate my reservation. In the meantime I had left my luggage with the bell hop. They told me they would bring my suitcase up for me. I asked the guy to take it out of my trunk because I had just had surgery and couldn't do any lifting. Remember that for later. They gave me directions to my room and I couldn't believe the path I had to take to get there. Elevator up to the fourth floor, then I had to walk down an extremely long hallway, down another hall to ANOTHER elevator. Then I was to take that elevator DOWN a floor to get to my room. It felt like a joke. It was so unbelievably inconvenient. Throughout my journey to my room I noticed all of the windows in the hallway were cracked open. I realized quickly this was to air out the moldy musky smell of the hotel that desperately needed renovating. The carpet was filthy. My hotel room was so bleh. So outdated, the bed was so high I had to jump out of it my feet didn't touch the ground and I'm 5'8. The furniture was old, the carpet, I wouldn't take my socks off. I set up the luggage rack right in the front of the room so that when the bellhop brought my luggage up he could rest it on there for me since I made it clear I couldn't lift. I saw two bugs when I pulled down the comforter and at that point I was done. I went down to the front desk and told them about the bugs and that I wanted a new room. They couldn't help me. Completely ignored my request so I called the booking agency to tell them what was going on. I went back up to my room and saw my luggage in my room, horizontal on the floor despite the luggage rack being open and set up, right, next to it. Cool. I had to call someone up just to lift my luggage onto the rack because again, couldn't lift, post-surgical, made that clear. Whatever. Long story short by this time it was 11:30 pm I just wanted to sleep so I did that and left first thing in the morning. This hotel has absolutely no business charging the rates that they do. None. I would not stay here again.

The walk (70 minutes or so) will take you a bit but if you have time and are up for the exercise, we enjoy it! The Trident room is in the basement and parking is available on the grounds restricted during the week to certain lots as parking is needed for students and faculty.
