The tasting room is light, bright and inviting. JonPaul was our tasting guide who talked us through the wines, varietals and growing areas. We did one of each flight so we got to taste everything they were offering. I was surprised and delighted to see Touriga National on their tasting menu. This is a varietal that is usually used as a blending varietal in Portuguese wines. Not many places in the US grow this so it's highly unusual to see it here. Definitely make a reservation if you plan on swinging by in the afternoon. You might be able to walk in if you go when they open. read more

The space is nice. Lots of windows allowing natural light. A little more than a handful of tables but I believer there is also a back room for larger parties. We did not have a reservation and were just wandering around Carmel looking for a place that looked interesting when we wandered into the tasting room. The staff were nice and the wine was solid but it just felt like we were constantly being slightly forgotten. The wine tasting flight took a long time with decent waits with empty glasses. It was crowded at first which we understood but it continued even after it cleared up. Maybe try to sit right at the bar for quicker service. May come back but with the many options in Carmel I would prob try one or two other tasting rooms first. read more

Great wine and service but having no bathroom is a real issue. We had a great time at Scheid Vineyards Tasting Room. It's a cute, cozy spot with fast, friendly, and informative service. The wines were so good that we ended up purchasing multiple bottles and had them shipped home (and looking forward to having them). However, the big drawback was that there's no bathroom on-site, which is a surprising and inconvenient issue for a place that serves alcohol. Having to hunt down a restroom elsewhere really took away from the otherwise relaxed experience. Still, if you're prepared for that hiccup, it's a lovely spot to enjoy some truly great wine. read more

What a wonderful tasting room, and we had such a great time wine tasting here. We only had time to do one tasting during our visit to Downtown Carmel, and after much research, Scheid Vineyard was the one. Happy to say, we definitely picked right. JonPaul was an incredible host, guiding us through all the different wines. We especially enjoying trying their two dessert wines - both so decadent in their own ways that we brought home a bottle of each. They were telling us they do different events here, and sometimes partner with different food vendors. Definitely sounded fun and would look into when we come back. I got the reserve tasting flight, $35 for 5 wines (2 white, 3 red). Fee waived with 2 bottle purchase. They started us off with a bonus pour of gruner veltliner from the regular tasting and later gave us some more bonus pours after some wine talk. All good sized pours. Not stingy. We stopped by Schied Vineyard recently and had a pretty mixed experience. First off, it was surprising--and honestly kind of frustrating--that there was no bathroom on-site. For a place serving wine (a diuretic!), you'd think a restroom would be a given. Instead, my boyfriend was told to go to another location, which for some reason required taking an elevator to the third floor just to use the facilities. That definitely put a damper on the visit. As for the service, our server was attentive in terms of keeping our glasses full, which we appreciated. However, there was almost no information shared about the wines themselves--no background on the varietals, where the grapes were grown, or anything about the vineyard's story. Maybe it was a busy day or maybe our server was new, but the overall experience felt more like a wine bar than a tasting room. All in all, it wasn't terrible, but I wouldn't go out of my way to return. There are other tasting rooms in the area that offer more substance--and bathrooms. read more

They have a "reserve tasting" for $25 which features 5 wines and mostly pinot noirs, and an "estate tasting" for $15 with a broader variety of whites and reds. Like other reviewers mentioned, the tasting is free if you purchase 2 bottles. We decided to go with the estate tasting and it did not disappoint at all. I don't remember the name of our host but they were extremely knowledgeable about wine and also just really fun to chat with. We got small bottles of water and some sliced bread as a palate cleanser. Each person uses the same glass for the entire tasting. The host didn't stay with us the entire time but it felt as if they were keeping an eye on our wine glasses because they would pour the next wine as soon as we finished! We had some time to kill before dinner and this caught our eye. They have two tasting flights, $25 and $35. I don't go to that many tasting rooms so I splurged for the $35. The lady that managed our tasting was nice enough to substitute the champaign for a cab (I don't do much bubbly). Overall the wines were quite good. A good wine-tasting experience is always made great when staff knows the wines, can tell a story about each one, and offers a pairing suggestion. Yesterday we had the pleasure of working with John Paul. It made such a difference, I had to write a review. Highlights: 2015 SLH Pinot noir has the smell of leather surely, 2014 Claret rich in flavor, 2020 winner - Merlot 2017 toasted wooden notes smelled like hot sauce, 2017 Petite Sirah had a fleshy texture indeed and 2017 Kurt's Cabernet aromas were strong! Wow! Had a an awesome experience here. My husband and I walked into Scheid because it had a record player going with some good music and it had a lively vibe. Susan taught us so much about which wines thrive in which regions, and walked us through the map of all the vineyards Scheids wine comes from. We did one Estate and one Reserve flight in about 45 minutes, which we kind of rushed because we had dinner reservations, and definitely could have hung out longer. The Isabelle sparkling Reserve was my absolute favorite-- pretty much a dry champagne (chefs kiss) and their Clone 115 Pinot Noir was untouchable. Prime location too! read more

Disappointed. Never got to try wine. Had the Carmel wine pass and chose to come here for the choice of white wines. Was greeted within 10 minutes with a subpar rose, and given a tasting menu. Walking around downtown Carmel, with thirty minutes to kill as they say, before 6:45 p.m., La Bicyclette dinner reservations, came across Scheid Wine Tasting Room. Hmmm...what better way to spend time...right! And what a great decision that was. Two wine tastings available: 4 pours for $15 or $25. Because I was totally unfamiliar with this Wine, I chose the $15 flight of the less expensive wines. And my mellow mood was calling out for all reds! So okay, we have all that figured out. Let the games begin :-)! Jimmy, our awesome, low key server, started pouring the 4 selected reds. My fav red, pinot noir, was one of the picks along with a Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, and, one unfamiliar to me, a Tannat. Let me just say this... I could have easily purchased a case of each one! Incredibly delicious! I am not really a Merlot or Cab fan but these were wonderful. Smooth, fruit forward and so drinkable. Thank goodness dinner reservations were fast approaching or who knows what I would have spent LOL. This is a relaxed, charming and friendly place. Or at least it was the 30 minutes I spent here. Jimmy offered a complimentary 5th pour of a Pinot which was equally as yummy as the others! And I thank you for that Jimmy! Had we not been rushing out the door.... I would have asked so many questions but alas there was just no time. But you can be assured my next visit to the Monterey Peninsula will include a much longer stop at this Tasting Room! We walked into Scheid for an afternoon wine tasting before our dinner reservation in downtown Carmel. We put our name on the waitlist and strolled the streets for about 15 minutes before receiving a text that our table was ready. There is a small parklet set up outside Scheid with two tables and a few more additional tables at the side of the building. We shared the October Estate Tasting ($15). The best was the Cabernet Sauvignon. They were all easy to drink but none were particularly special, and they actually tasted a bit watered down (with the exception of the Cabernet Sauvignon). From reading other reviews, it seemed like Scheid was one of the top tasting locations in downtown Carmel and I had high expectations for it. Perhaps being from the Bay Area and having easy access to Napa/Sonoma wine country has made my expectations higher for wine as well. The servers we met were very nice (can't remember their names) and they gave us two small bottles of water to go. Overall a decent wine tasting experience. read more
